There are two classes of vocalists. David Phelps is one class and the other class is everyone else who wishes they were David Phelps!
52 year old male covering a Whitney Houston song is just unheard of. Yet David does it flawlessly. I always say this and always will...he is the best male vocalist in the world and has been for years. Not even close...and still humble and gracious.
David can sing anything, therefore I would love to hear him sing "I Will Always Love You". This man's voice is a gift from God.
Whitney Houston had a very powerful and clear voice - on her best days (before drugs and alcohol ruined the voice). And the songs from "Bodyguard" were at the peak of her vocal capabilities.
A man singing one of this songs - that`s unexpected and not seen before.
But: David Phelps is a classical trained tenor and he can sing over full range of three(!) octaves - without a problem!
So - if someone can do it... it`s definitely him!
I love David Phelps... really! And his partners as background musicians and also background singer - like Guy Penrod or Charlotte Ritchie or his doughter, Maggie Beth... all great singers!
Search for "Amazing Grace" with David and Charlotte and two other singers... or his version of "The Lord`s Prayer & Ave Maria"... beautiful! Simply perfect!

@terrimorrison If you’re talking about I Can’t Help Falling In Love, David hasn’t released that on RUclips yet. Lyle saw Stories and Songs, so he’s aware of how awesome the songs are.

This is my all time favorite. He did Whitney proud. He's ear for notes and tone, can't be matched. That is a Yamaha C2 piano for the pros.. I have one and it has such a rich and bold bass. Loved how the pianist used it so well. Very clean and emotional playing. And that cellist is out of this world. She had emotion for days and her 2 solo riffs were unexpected and I loved it so much..oh, Lyle I have to listen to this at least 3 or 4 times a day. I'm trying to get my Alexa to play it for me, but she is stubborn. This man needs to be named the best tenor of all times.
I absolutely adore David’s arrangement and delivery of this song. He is a Whitney Houston fan and I am certain she would love this and would be a Phan of David’s voice and talent as he is of hers. The piano cello combo is just perfection as are Da id’s vocals and song interpretation. I have Stories and Songs Vol 1. Stellar work. Today I received word that David’s newest album will be released Sept. 10th. His Gamechanger tour dates are now listed on his website. More great reactions material for you my friend. You are right. David has truly mastered his voice. He knows exactly how & when to use dynamics, phrasing, key change and has absolute control of his voice. His perfect diction is unmatched in the music world, regardless of genre!!

Make no mistake folks....David could be a household name around the world due to his God given immense talent. But he chooses to be true to his calling, remaining a mainstream Christian artist, forfeiting additional fame and fortune. I say, like many, that he is the best male vocalist in the world today and has been for many years...and that comment is from many years of experience and seeing him live 11 times...it's just that many have never heard of him...because he chooses to follow the path that God has planned for him. What an incredibly powerful performance by David. I guess the best way to follow an icon is with another icon! He excels in any music genre and makes each song his own.

Lyle, when you mentioned the cellist stopped playing when David hit that barn-burner of a note, maybe she was just gobsmacked and forgot what she was supposed to play! Also Lyle, I'm a bit worried about you as you didn't shed a single tear. during this performance. 😅😉😊 All kidding aside, David is just unparalleled as a vocalist of any genre. Am I the only one who suddenly realized I stopped breathing many times as I listened to this? (admittedly for the hundredth time) GOAT!

“I can’t help falling in love.” It was very beautiful when David sang it. Ballads really show the beautiful tone he has.
