I've been involved in music my entire life. Went to college on a music scholarship, vocal performance major, piano minor. What you see in this video is a completely amazing pianist, Anthony Berger. He dedicated his profound talents to gospel music, and he was the best there ever was in that field. There's nothing I can say about David Phelps that hasn't been said. I seriously doubt any male vocalist who walked this planet has been better than Mr. Phelps. All I can say is thank God I was around at the right time to hear him.
This is the best version of O Holy Night. It is not a song that is easy to sing and it doesn't sound good if not sing with a powerful voice and full of emotion. You have to sing it picturing yourself walking through Bethlehem 2000 years back coming across a small place where there are animals seeing the baby has just been born--and you have to sing it like you want the world to know just that. He knocks it out of the park.
The pianist is playing without any sheet music.....most excellent I have high respect for that. How I wish I could have been in that church, that night.
Absolutely amazing vocals as a buddhist ,I mindfully rationalise his outstanding, captivating vocals and wonder " whom above is listening " blessings yo you
David Phelps is astonishing! God gave him perfect vocal chords, perfect pitch, and a vocal range that’s incredible! To me, he’s the best singer on planet earth. Without a doubt!!
I am 85 years old. I have had the pleasure of seeing him preform several times. He can hit high notes like no one I know of. He has been blessed by the LORD for his voice. I could listen to him all day, any day. Jim Ruppert
That might be the single best vocal performance I have ever heard. Especially considering that he is a man, some of those notes are in the stratosphere. As well the amount of belts is insane, the power it takes to do that is incredible.
He said "amen" in response to the applause instead of "thank you"-- all glory to God! True God-given talent and humility, I cry every time I hear this jaw-dropping performance.
There are videos on YT of vocal coaches just about falling out of their chairs hearing him for the first time. His voice is simply a gift from God, there is no other explanation for it. This video gives me chills every time I watch it.
I have to go watch the vocal coaches review as if like to hear the expert opinion on some of the notes he sang 😊 he sounds like an entire choir and instruments all in one 😊 this is simply amazing and spiritual. I come back here often to listen!
Joe Melton could not agree more. I just found this and the first time (and every time) I can’t help but get flooded with emotion. It’s something about him with this song it almost is impossible how perfect he sings it.
That statement is actually true since David is the best Tenor of our lifetime if not all of lifetime. He set Guinness World record for highest hitting chest notes (which is a tenor) and sustained notes as well. This guy was truly gifted beyond any human I’ve ever known. I’ve heard some great voices in my lifetime. It’s crazy to think this guy is the best tenor. Making him the most powerful singer ever recorded. So far.
Mr.OR Mrs.OR Miss D Money, I listen to this song year round, it is NOT only for Christmas time, just as, for a FEW EXAMPLES: “While You Were Sleeping” by Casting Crowns which is about The Rapture, “O Come, O Come Emanuel” is NOT only a Christmas song(I enjoy Aaron Shust’s version). wado, listening eyes.
Still listening in 2019. The first time I heard David sing this, tears came to my eyes. The difference between talent and anointing is when the song goes forth, the talent draws attention to it's self, but the anointing draws people to Jesus. God Bless you David.
If you were to die today, are you a 100% sure you will go to heaven? If no, here is what the bible says, (1) Romans 3:23 KJV [23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Q1. Do you know what Sin is? Sin is anything bad that we have done. Q2. Have you sinned before? Yes or No? (2) Revelation 21:8 KJV [8] But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Because we have sinned, and God does not allow Sin into Heaven, the punishment is burning hell. What is the way to reconcile our peace and relationship with God? Q3. Do you know the Story of Jesus? (3) Romans 5:8 KJV [8] But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus = God who lived up in Heaven, but he came down on earth and became a man like us, he lived for 33.5 years without committing any sin. Then there were certain people who were jealous and therefore framed him on phony charges, and crucified him. Then he was buried and resurrected on the third day; Now he lives in HEAVEN. Q4. Do you know why Jesus went through all this bloody mess for us? A4. As mentioned, our sin is the reason why we can’t go to heaven, and the only thing that can wash away our sin is the Blood of Jesus. (4) Romans 5:9 KJV [9] Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. According to the bible, the only way for us to reconcile with God is through Christ Jesus’s blood, and not through any works that we do or merits we accumulate, such as water baptism, attending church, or any good thing that we do. The following verses clearly support this. (5) Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. (6) 2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV [10] For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. In order to get saved, repentance of one’s sin is needed to get saved, we need to be sorry, and repent, with conviction, that we are a wretched sinner. (7) Romans 10:9 KJV [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. If you truly do believe in everything you have heard in the gospel, ,I strongly suggest you to make a proclamation to GOD! You can say it to God in less than 15 seconds !Repeat after this simple prayer, to make sure you truly get saved. Remember repeating this prayer doesn't save you, it's you telling God you BELIEVE THE GOSPEL. Ok, here is the prayer : ‘Dear GOD, I know I am a sinner, as I repent, I put my faith, that Jesus is GOD, and that he died, buried and resurrected, so that his blood, can wash away my Sins. I put my faith in that alone to save me, not my good works. In Jesus’s holy name, I pray. Amen! Congratulations ! Now you are a child of God. That's why we need to study biblical dispensationalism to rightly divide the word of God.( study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, 2 Timothy 2:15) (I recommend the dispensationalism video from Genesis to Revelations by Dr. Gene Kim, ruclips.net/video/GI4CteEFxOk/видео.html) , Jesus in Genesis (ruclips.net/video/RmnUkNT55gU/видео.html) join a bible believing church. I disagree. This is cross-shaped praise. There is a vertical component between the singer and God, but there is also an equally important horizonal component, uniting the congregation, even across time.

David is the best male vocalist in the world and has been for the the past twenty five years...and it's not even close. I can testify to this as I have seen him live 11 times from the front row. There is no one better...!
It’s not the musician or singer that brings this song to life. It he that has both talent and a real everyday relationship with Jesus, the reason for the season, that can sing this song this way... by far the greatest version

My best friend died in November at the age of 33. She loved this performance of O Holy Night. It was her favorite, hands down. For years I’ve never felt like it was Christmas until I listened to David Phelps belt this one out. Listening to it tonight in honor of my friend!
Really sorry for your loss. Very sad. I agree with you - it isn’t officially Christmas till David Phelps sings his heart out to God. God bless you this most holy season.
Jesus is not a 'religion' in the way many assume. Jesus is the Creator, and He is Reality. You *will* meet Him one day. I hope you choose to be with Him. When you're ready, ask Jesus to come into your heart. ☺️
I wish that people wouldn't try to push the things they feel on you just because you're enjoying some great music. Keep in mind that even though you have all the reasons in the world to believe in god, I for example have all the reasons not too. Just listen the to music and keep beliefs to yourself.
@@jeffgate3946 I have experiences that prove (to me) Jesus exists and truly is real. It's not just me reading a bible and believing alone. You'll see one day. o/ Out of curiosity, would you ever try asking Jesus to come into your heart? You should try that right now. See what happens. If you truly mean it, you might be surprised! :)
@@user-de4jk8vj4c This is true, we were all blind at one point. Even after becoming born again, we still stumble in the flesh! We're saved totally by His grace alone! :) Did you make a video on your testimony? How did He reveal Himself to you? My mother and I have had experiences with Him that also were confirmed outside of our minds. A few just recently, I'll post here: *JESUS is COMING SOON!* Around a year and a half ago I was out riding my bike along a spot that I'm not too familiar with. I felt that "not home" feeling and didn't like it; I started to tell myself *"Well, Jesus is..."* and before I could finish it, my head turns to the right and sees a big sign in the grass: *"COMING SOON!"* - Quickly I burst into laughter at the timing of this. It was *seamless.* So I went home and called my mother on the phone and told her about it. She quickly said to me: *"That's confirmation!"* - As *soon as she said that,* the memory was brought to my conscious mind that I prayed, *just two days before,* asking the Lord if He really told my mother: *"Soon, child, soon."* bass / baritone range, and cannot scream even close to that pitch in the dream. I learned later in the day that *NY* lit up the *One World Trade* center building *PINK,* _IN CELEBRATION OF_ being able to murder babies in the womb at 9+ months! I was shocked (and disgusted), at how this was the confirmation to my dream. Will we be here to see this? I assumed so, or else I see no other reason why the Lord would show me this dream. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've been born again since 1996 (at age 17) and my mother has been born again since the early-mid 1970s (her early-mid 20s). We've both had multiple experiences and words from the Lord over the years (about current situations at those times) but *never about anything concerning end times.* Only in the last couple of years did He wake us up to this. So let's keep watch. :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Link to my forum where I've posted a few other experiences with Jesus + some of my viewpoints on biblical subjects:* ruclips.net/channel/UCOqOr-lYMcAF-N39vx8WLngdiscussion?view_as=subscriber
The best tenor in our lifetime. Even beating out Pavarotti in Guinness World Record for the highest tenor notes and highest tenor notes sustained. Which is no joke coming from the chest. It wastes so much air quickly. Somehow David can hold it until it seems as if he is on the brink of passing out. No breaks or cracks in the voice. Just pure talent. He could’ve made it anywhere. He chose to stay with the gospel arena in which God gave him his talent. What an amazing voice that was gifted to David. He didn’t waste it either. He shared such a great talent.
apples and oranges. Phelps is a "musical" tenor, a pop singer. An amazing one, obviously. Pavarotti was an Opera singer, and while he is regarded as the technical golden standard in Opera, there are many tenors who are more appreciated than Pavarotti by real Opera fans, like Björling, Corelli, Gigli, Caruso... Also Pavarotti for popularity's sake insisted on singing repertoire that his voice was not made for. "Nessun dorma" is not an aria for a lyrical tenor like Pav was. Listen to Corelli sing that aria. But generally speaking, large chunks of your comment don't make any sense at all.
@Captain 7 yea I love the three tenors especially. But Pavarotti didn’t have range and was stuck to one style. In fact when Pavarotti sung with Barry White he couldn’t keep up and Barry dominated the show. However that wouldn’t happen with David Phelps due to range and sustained notes.
@Captain 7 just go down and look at some of the comments here. Where people are saying they have never heard anyone sing like this in their life or this is the best singing they ever heard.
No matter how many years past that I play this and I listen to it all times of year I can feel the presence of the Lord in that room coming right through my phone and there is no doubt about it everyone there felt his presence it would be impossible not to
After listening to others sing this song, I always return to David Phelps' rendition to affirm it is the best! His voice with the piano and the host of voices make you feel the glory and splendor and power of God!
I've never been able to hear this song without crying. This song should remind us that regardless of how much muck and mire we may be confronted with, the promise of Christ was given to all of mankind that night. Some chains of oppression are seen, others are not recognized but the promise of freedom and grace was given. O Holy Night indeed!🙏
Sorry but he over played and was completely out of the pocket. Tune was fine, volume was too loud for the first 1/2 of the song. He played like it was his solo.
You should watch his "Ave Maria" one. The voice control is crazy. He is doing most of it with no instruments, so you can really here how fantastic his control is. Here is a link to it. ruclips.net/video/G1uvMuFbsBo/видео.html

WHEN I HEAR THIS PERFORMANCE, I KNOW I AM IN THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT... GOD IS OMNIPRESENT....AND WHILE DAVID'S PERFORMANCE IS FILLED WITH GOD'S POWER AND PRESENCE, I AM TRANSCENDED INTO THE PRESENCE OF GOD EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO THIS PERFORMANCE...WOW!!

Everytime-Praise God.
Absolutely. The Spirit working in us. Just beautiful.
Would have been even better if he had finished the song as it was written.
That part breaks me
Agreed 😭
This is the best version of O Holy Night. It is not a song that is easy to sing and it doesn't sound good if not sing with a powerful voice and full of emotion. You have to sing it picturing yourself walking through Bethlehem 2000 years back coming across a small place where there are animals seeing the baby has just been born--and you have to sing it like you want the world to know just that. He knocks it out of the park.
A pity he didn't sing it the way it was written. He could then have breathed in the right places.
I was looking for the best version of O Holy Night, I think I just found it!!

The pianist is playing without any sheet music.....most excellent I have high respect for that. How I wish I could have been in that church, that night.
My thoughts exactly... Most likely never to be repeated. And Marie, the pianist has sadly passed away. Just another little reminder to seize the day.
My brother how awesome that would've been, goosebumps all over my body
The late Anthony Burger, ladies and gents!
He was one of the best
It's actually not that hard to improvise on such a familiar song...however, to improvise with that kind of technique and attack, is something else.

That might be the single best vocal performance I have ever heard. Especially considering that he is a man, some of those notes are in the stratosphere. As well the amount of belts is insane, the power it takes to do that is incredible.
@mello xo he is not a baritone. He is a tenor
Paul Bolin watch him sing a verse of It Is Well With my Soul on here...the one with Wesley Pritchard singing & Ruth Graham in the audience

I agree with you, an absolute musical masterpiece. The most beautiful rendition of the most beautiful song ever written.
I have to go watch the vocal coaches review as if like to hear the expert opinion on some of the notes he sang 😊 he sounds like an entire choir and instruments all in one 😊 this is simply amazing and spiritual. I come back here often to listen!
Possibly the greatest live vocal performance ever captured by mankind. Divinely inspired!

So far.

As a Christian I love you
If you were to die today, are you a 100% sure you will go to heaven?
If no, here is what the bible says,
(1) Romans 3:23 KJV [23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
Ok, here is the prayer :
‘Dear GOD,
I know I am a sinner, as I repent, I put my faith, that Jesus is GOD, and that he died, buried and resurrected, so that his blood, can wash away my Sins. I put my faith in that alone to save me, not my good works. In Jesus’s holy name, I pray. Amen!
Congratulations ! Now you are a child of God. Download /Buy a KJV bible (I highly suggest getting a hard copy bible , as one day, it will be illegal to buy, own or even have an online version of the bible) and search for youtube channel like REAL Bible Believers , Spencer Smith to help you grow , study dispensationalism to understand the bible ( How do we reconcile the verses in the New Testament that tell us that we need works to show our faith, and another that tells us that nothing that can take our salvation away? That's why we need to study biblical dispensationalism to rightly divide the word of God.( study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, 2 Timothy 2:15) (I recommend the dispensationalism video from Genesis to Revelations by Dr. Gene Kim, ruclips.net/video/GI4CteEFxOk/видео.html) , Jesus in Genesis (ruclips.net/video/RmnUkNT55gU/видео.html)

This is what vertical praise sounds like, horizontal praise is just a performance, this went straight to the throne of God.
Fantastic reply.
Well said!!
Lmfao.
I disagree. This is cross-shaped praise. There is a vertical component between the singer and God, but there is also an equally important horizonal component, uniting the congregation, even across time.

You have my most sincere condolences. I will say a prayer for your friend and for you.

You'll see one day. o/
Out of curiosity, would you ever try asking Jesus to come into your heart? You should try that right now. See what happens. If you truly mean it, you might be surprised! :)
@@user-de4jk8vj4c This is true, we were all blind at one point. Even after becoming born again, we still stumble in the flesh! We're saved totally by His grace alone! :) Did you make a video on your testimony? How did He reveal Himself to you? My mother and I have had experiences with Him that also were confirmed outside of our minds. A few just recently, I'll post here: *JESUS is COMING SOON!*
Around a year and a half ago I was out riding my bike along a spot that I'm not too familiar with.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been born again since 1996 (at age 17) and my mother has been born again since the early-mid 1970s (her early-mid 20s). We've both had multiple experiences and words from the Lord over the years (about current situations at those times) but *never about anything concerning end times.* Only in the last couple of years did He wake us up to this. So let's keep watch. :)
The unbridled joy coming from the guy *behind* the soloist at 3:41 is literally the best. Felt that.
The best tenor in our lifetime. Even beating out Pavarotti in Guinness World Record for the highest tenor notes and highest tenor notes sustained. Which is no joke coming from the chest. It wastes so much air quickly. Somehow David can hold it until it seems as if he is on the brink of passing out. No breaks or cracks in the voice. Just pure talent. He could’ve made it anywhere. He chose to stay with the gospel arena in which God gave him his talent. What an amazing voice that was gifted to David. He didn’t waste it either. He shared such a great talent.
apples and oranges. Phelps is a "musical" tenor, a pop singer. An amazing one, obviously. Pavarotti was an Opera singer, and while he is regarded as the technical golden standard in Opera, there are many tenors who are more appreciated than Pavarotti by real Opera fans, like Björling, Corelli, Gigli, Caruso... Also Pavarotti for popularity's sake insisted on singing repertoire that his voice was not made for. "Nessun dorma" is not an aria for a lyrical tenor like Pav was. Listen to Corelli sing that aria.
But generally speaking, large chunks of your comment don't make any sense at all.
Watch him sing, "The End of The Beginning". Can't get enough.
@Captain 7 Pavarotti is no joke. His range however and depth can not match David Phelps. Although Pavarotti can seem like he is singing effortlessly
@Captain 7 yea I love the three tenors especially. But Pavarotti didn’t have range and was stuck to one style. In fact when Pavarotti sung with Barry White he couldn’t keep up and Barry dominated the show. However that wouldn’t happen with David Phelps due to range and sustained notes.
@Captain 7 just go down and look at some of the comments here. Where people are saying they have never heard anyone sing like this in their life or this is the best singing they ever heard.
No matter how many years past that I play this and I listen to it all times of year I can feel the presence of the Lord in that room coming right through my phone and there is no doubt about it everyone there felt his presence it would be impossible not to
David Phelps = He has NO Competition NONE WOW
I've never been able to hear this song without crying. This song should remind us that regardless of how much muck and mire we may be confronted with, the promise of Christ was given to all of mankind that night.
