I listen to this version of him from January to December for 10 years straight now, and I'm not getting tired doing it!
Here’s the thing about David Phelps... he doesn’t try, he doesn’t force it..... it just happens. A true natural gift. Some people are just born to make music.
I completely lose myself EVERY time I come back to this performance. It puts me on the edge of an ugly cry. He is (and always has been) just an impeccably, evocatively stunning interpreter and vocalist. Period. He is the voice of this generation!!!
So funny you say that! The first time I heard this I had to pull off the freeway while driving, and ugly cried on the side of the road for a good 20 straight minutes after it was over.
I'm gonna have to go with Jussi Bjoerling although Phelps is amazing too. The reason I vote for JB is I was able to quite clearly hear one particular difference with both singers and that is the breaths taken during singing. I watched another reaction video from Elizabeth Zharoff (the charismatic singer channel) reacting to JB singing the same song. She stopped partway through to point out where he took a "silent breath". Then replayed and I could hear that breath which was barely noticeable and had she not mentioned it nobody would notice. 100% perfect breath control.
My wife and I bought tickets to finnaly get to go see him in north Louisiana. Not knowing after my back surgery I went into two massive Heart attacks. We made our oldest sons go to it. they called me from the show and held the phone up so I could hear Let freedom ring. wow I cried right away. Thank you God for the second chance. that was 2010

Don't know if you have heard and watched the video of David and the Gaithers sing Let Freedom Ring as a command performance at the White House when President Bush, Jr. was in office but the president was whistling and beside himself when they sang this.
I saw David Phelps in concert in Spartanburg SC, and I was amazed. I was blown away. I had the opportunity to talk to him after the show, and I told him that his voice was angelic. I can pick him out of the entire group. He's Wonderful

I have watched other performers just knock a performance out of the park and the audience doesn't stand or seem to be that impressed. It became clear when I noticed they were sharing a stage at the same event with David Phelps. You can't shine next to someone anointed by God to sing for Him, human effort won't get you there. There are many great singers who have shared a stage with David but he is on another level. I have never heard anyone hit those notes with the resonance, flexibility, and power that he can deliver. There is no comparison.

My sister and I saw David Phelps Christmas concert last year, in Bremen Georgia. His family was with him on stage. It was the most beautiful concert EVER. He has a beautiful gift from God and is using it to glorify God. I absolutely love him.
I’m always amazed by David. When he starts singing his voice has SO much weight in it. I’m always convinced he’s a baritone when he starts, but right at the key change you can tell he really bottoms out much higher than a baritone. So good.

As a former Gospel Singer, I am proud to subscribe to your channel. I think for those of us that follow David, he knows the one of whom he sings. He is a great family man along with being a great talent. He put on his tool belt and converted the old barn on his farm in Tennessee to a concert hall so he could spend less time touring and more time with the family. They hold what they call "The Barn Bash," every year. People come and Camp there on the farm, and enjoy the fellowship. His kids sing with him and we who watch get great joy from him. His professors wanted him to go into Opera but he wanted to sing about his Lord. He has put out a lot of original things of his own, from the Barn, and just stayed, David. That's amazing too. I have never heard a bad comment about the man. Love him to tears, because he is my Brother in Christ. I did actually hear him with the GVB, and talked to him. He is as nice as he seems, and funny....
The first time I saw the Gaither band 1976 South Florida, his daughter Amy was around 7 maybe 8, they did a song his daughter sang with them ( Something Special) my first born was 4 been to see them here in Texas where we live now. They still put on a great Gospel show.
My favorite Christmas Carol. This guy does it justice and it is the one of the hardest songs to sing. I've seen so many versions of it and his is probably the best. I love that he sang the last stanza because it is often left out and this song is about loving each other, all of us and remembering what Jesus taught us. Beautiful performance. Just beautiful. We where only married 5 months when Our SAVIOUR needed my love of my life with him. This was the first solo I ever sang. I was about 11 years old. Can't sing now because cancer surgery damaged my vocal cords but the memories are still warm and wonderful. Hello, I just subscribed to your channel. It is so exciting to me to find another Christian that is bold enough to not only admit it, but celebrate it. I've never seen David Phelps perform, but I did see SRV (Stevie Ray Vaughan) & DT perform in the Mud Island Amphitheater in Memphis. I apologize if you don't review rock music. BUT, that jaw-dropped look is what I felt the entire concert. SRV sort of just became one with his guitar (played with eyes closed mostly & behind the back...) SRV is the Beethoven or Bach of the electric guitar. Alright, why did I say all that about SRV under a David Phelps video, you ask? Because, to me Phelps is the Beethoven/Bach of tenors. When I watch him on this phone display and listen, my jaw drops. This song, No More Night, and many others. There's a duet with his daughter (Agnus Dei) and it's very sweet to me how he throttles back to make HER the star--at least that's my interpretation. David Phelps is my favorite tenor, hands down. I love Andrea Bocelli and loved Pavarotti, but Phelps has a gift from God that I pray hard to not be envious of his gift (wish I could sing😂😂). Another gospel tenor that has blown me away is Larnelle Harris. I hope you've done some reactions to him. That song he sings with Sandi Patti about Easter morning (the real one 2,000 years ago), the feeling he puts into his voice always gives me goose bumps. I'll stop rambling. I lived in Nashville from 1972-1977 (I was born in 1966). My Dad was a minister. Anyway, I'll tell you sometime how many times I met Johnny Cash and about going to his house. My mom and Kelly Nelon have been friends for years, so she’s like an Aunt to me making her family, Amber, Jason, and Autumn included my extended family. My Great Uncle Vern had a trio, New Direction Trio.
Singers like David Phelps and Sohyang are truly annointed by God. Even if you're an atheist, you have to be impressed by their passion as vocalists and performers. This performance is my favourite male O Holy Night while for female, it's gotta be Sohyang. Goosebumps galore.

David Phelps is a freak of nature or a Godsend! I prefer the latter. David's version here is unmistakably the top of the mark as this song is concerned. He sings not only with great passion and power but also with incredible control as well. Pretty outstanding piano accompaniment too. I really do believe the 2 of them together produce the best cover of this ever recorded.
Anthony Berger (piano player) passed away on a cruise with The Gaither Homecoming family. He was mid 40s. Such a very sad loss

I just subscribed to your channel. It is so exciting to me to find another Christian that is bold enough to not only admit it, but celebrate it.
I've never seen David Phelps perform, but I did see SRV (Stevie Ray Vaughan) & DT perform in the Mud Island Amphitheater in Memphis. I apologize if you don't review rock music. BUT, that jaw-dropped look is what I felt the entire concert. SRV sort of just became one with his guitar (played with eyes closed mostly & behind the back...)
SRV is the Beethoven or Bach of the electric guitar.
Alright, why did I say all that about SRV under a David Phelps video, you ask?
Because, to me Phelps is the Beethoven/Bach of tenors. When I watch him on this phone display and listen, my jaw drops. This song, No More Night, and many others. There's a duet with his daughter (Agnus Dei) and it's very sweet to me how he throttles back to make HER the star--at least that's my interpretation. David Phelps is my favorite tenor, hands down. I love Andrea Bocelli and loved Pavarotti, but Phelps has a gift from God that I pray hard to not be envious of his gift (wish I could sing😂😂).
Another gospel tenor that has blown me away is Larnelle Harris. I hope you've done some reactions to him. That song he sings with Sandi Patti about Easter morning (the real one 2,000 years ago), the feeling he puts into his voice always gives me goose bumps.
I'll stop rambling. I lived in Nashville from 1972-1977 (I was born in 1966). My Dad was a minister. Anyway, I'll tell you sometime how many times I met Johnny Cash and about going to his house. (Also met Little Richard and others).

My mom and Kelly Nelon have been friends for years, so she’s like an Aunt to me making her family, Amber, Jason, and Autumn included my extended family. My Great Uncle Vern had a trio, New Direction Trio.
Singers like David Phelps and Sohyang are truly annointed by God. Even if you're an atheist, you have to be impressed by their passion as vocalists and performers. This performance is my favourite male O Holy Night while for female, it's gotta be Sohyang. Goosebumps galore.

David Phelps is a freak of nature or a Godsend! I prefer the latter. David's version here is unmistakably the top of the mark as this song is concerned. He sings not only with great passion and power but also with incredible control as well. All who are on stage with him are accomplished singers and song writers of the gospel genre with incredible pedigrees yet they also are in awe of this performance!
