To add to the amazement, he's 52 in this video... and still crushing a D5. I saw him do this song after intermission of his concert... he just strolled out and blew it away like it was "nothing". It's most likely that this performance was a live take. He has performed a couple of albums live. David is a student of his own voice, which is why he's still singing today. Some of his signature songs that you should consider reacting to are "No More Night", "We Shall Behold Him", "He's Alive" (version with the Gaither Vocal Band at the Tent Revival), "O Holy Night" (Green sweater version is historic), "Let Freedom Ring" (with the Gaither Vocal Band, he does the power tenor cleanup role), "The Dream", "Nessun Dorma". Love your reaction!
It’s filmed in his music room at his Tennessee farm house on his working cattle farm (yes, he does work the cattle himself) and the room is filled with mementos from his travels around the world. He toured in Australia in the early 2000’s with Gaither Vocal Band, so yes, it’s real.
You are kidding right? No one can top David. It’s not just a song it’s an experience every time. I think you are now a Phan! Seeing him live is awesome, they travel extensively. Hope you can catch a show.
If you love to, then GO and do so! Lol I seen David, 3 times. After the show, you can interject your very charismatic reaction to him directly. I'm sure, he would be pleased.
@@theblindleadstheblind Thanks for replying back. Sure, you're right. However, David tour's the whole country. Colorado, included. Your state is so beautiful, dude!
Yep, guilty - another Phreaky Phelp Phan! I dont know notes other than by hearing them - and so many of his blow your mind, give chills, goosebumps. He truly is the best singer in the world, I am sure of it. I can listen to him for hours, and sometimes just the same song over and over. NOBODY tops him. SO many great songs, I personally love his older stuff, to the newer stuff, but he is just so amazing. Love all the recomendations below, plus Water, but yes, if you do Oh Holy Night, green sweater version for sure. And Star Spangled Banner (Legacy of Love version) was one of those "mind blown" moments.
David’s highest note is F5, but he doesn’t use it much, there is no reason to strain his voice that far. David does a lot of modulation. He loves to arrange. Making complex arrangements, often changing keys. His arrangement of “The Star Spangled Banner” on the Legacy of Love DVD is very complex and I promise not like any other arrangement of that song you have heard before. We get that big beautiful C5 at the end, which he is known for. It’s quite thrilling. His song “It was Water”, which is one of my favorites, apparently has 5 key changes. Very dynamic. Too much so for some people. From a Phreaky Phelps Phan ( you may have started a new trend)
Hey thanks for that info. I knew one of you PPPs would know the highest notes he sings. I’ll definitely check out that crazy key change song. That kind of stuff tickles my musical fancy.
I have seen David perform live 11 times, met him and his family several times. He, in my opinion, is the best male vocalist in the world and he has been for the past twenty years or more.
Everyone is hitting the songs you should react to out of the park. Let me add one: "When God Dips His Love" by the Gaither Vocal Band. He hits an F very convincingly and lyrics Cs and Ds. Even the singers are amazed.
David does this song just this way live and that is after he has done the first half of his concert! Incredible voice but his most unsung(pardon the pun) ability I think is his arranging. He could sing the phone book and it be gorgeous but let him arrange it first, just WOW!
I am a long time fan of David. I will say, I haven't ever heard anyone better. My suggestion for your next listen is Nessun Dorma. I would also recommend listening to the videos he posts with his daughter. Both girls have amazing voices. Maggie has a gift just like her Dad. I would recommend He's Still My Child. David also wrote this song.
Yes sir, I have to agree with Nicole. Your reaction videos are so much better than the rest. You KNOW music and you KNOW talent. Such as in, David. Thank You.
The RUclips channel New York Vocal Coaching is doing a series of David Phelps, interviews, singing technique's on the spot, that will blow your mind, it's very informative and enjoyable. He answers a lot of the questions you're having.
Phelps Phan Phreak here! You simply must do his mashup of the Star Spangled Banner with Led Zepelin's Kashmere - ruclips.net/video/rJKM_ZxUTgI/видео.html. David has said he considers himself a "Stylist", one who chooses to put his own style on an arrangement. You just can't go wrong with any of the songs mentioned below! David's latest album, "Gamechanger" takes a more contemporary turn and is simply beautiful. He wrote and arranged all the songs on it. It's a do not miss as well. Blessings
This was recorded for one of his dvd's, he performs from his farm, that "barn" you referred on another video with him? Yeah, he's had his barn remodeled for performances. He and his family are all involved in his business. He is God blessed and Baylor trained..............:-) But yeah this was recorded in his home, that's his own piano that he composes and rearranges songs on. If you want to see his early stuff, he sang with the Gaither Vocal Band for some years, before going out on his own. Then he rejoined them for another few years and left for good when he and Lori, his college sweetheart/wife decided to convert his Tenn. working farm home into a venue. He hires local choirs for the handful of Barn Bash performances he gives. He was discovered by Mark Lowry, another gospel singer. David had graduated college with his BA in music theory, etc....and was applying to be a sessions singer, which is also how Guy Penrod started in Nashville. Mark overheard him, called Bill Gaither and said, we need this guy. And the rest, as they say, is history.
I've never seen DP live (hope to some day), but I've enjoyed him for many years. I love your insight on this....you put some technical details in clear understanding way. Just subscribed to your channel. Thanks!
Hi bud. Yes, I'm a Phelps Phreek too! Lol I love your spin on your reactions. Very sophisticated. Hopeyoucheck out David's, In the Beginning? You'll like it! Thx
Hello. Yes. David is probably the most fantastic tenor! There’s only one other tinner that comes close lol that’s André Bocelli. I’ve heard it said that David Phelps even out does André. I didn’t say that, but another music critic did. And I love André Bocelli. There’s another song that you need to hear David Phelps do. It’s from one of the Gaither music something it’s a Christmas Time song. Oh, Holy Night. You’ve gotta hear it.
Check out David singing End of the Beginning live and also check out Home Free singing Mayday. There are millions of us Home Fries who love reactions to their music. They are an A Capella country group. They sing many many genres of music.

David is known for his incredible arrangements and ridiculous chords!! He is a musical genius!!
David writes music and does many of his own arrangements. Amazingly talented. Definitely the best singer/tenor anywhere.
"The Dream" from David's Classic album is fabulous! Literally anything David sings is fabulous!
Yes!!! David Phelps is THAT GOOD!!! No other singer will top him. If you haven’t done “Just As I Am” by David please do that one🎶❣️

Let Freedom Ring with David Phelps and the Gaithers. David belts some high notes there that I’d like you to describe. From a Phelps Phreak!
That’s for sharing! David sounds just as amazing live in concert!
Even more amazing live!❤

What a vocal athlete.
