The cost of fabric in a slim fit vs. boxy fit suit is a negligible cost. By far the greater cost is labor, which is actually greater with tailoring. I would argue that slim fit is a reflection of the current body ideals for both men and women. Fashionable jeans, which opposite to suits, have become more and more accepted in varying circumstance are also slimmer than they have been in this past. This is true for both men and women's fashion.
I think tailoring is a cost when you're talking about clothes made to measure. But as far as mass production goes, economies of scale matter, and tailoring won't be a distinction because the templates are there, the standard sizes and internal dimensions have all been developed by the brand or its manufacturer, all fit types of their entire range will have a consistent fit by size, it isn't bespoke, and the manufacturing process won't be significantly different. Half a yard of fabric saved per suit across several thousand units of any given size isn't negligible. It isn't a lot on its own either, but it's one of many decisions of economy made that will add up to substantially reduced cost percentage of materials for either shareholder dividends, undercutting the competition, and the suit survive last months to years less wear reintroducing the buyer to the market sooner than they otherwise would have. So everybody wins, except the person who gets to wear the suit. Though I think form-fitting suits are increasingly fashionable largely because form-fitting (or revealing) everything has stayed fashionable or become increasingly fashionable for the past couple of decades. They've figured out how to get men to buy accessory bags, seasonal wardrobe, and gym memberships for reasons other than bodybuilding, they aren't about to stop now. The more they can market form-revealing clothes, the more potential insecurities can be further marketed to.
Just to let you know, no American naturally speaks with his accent. That is not an accent of any region in our country. What he has essentially done is starting 10+ years ago he began speaking like Americans used to in the 40's. Primarily in the New York City/Chicago areas (as you can see in all of the classic movies). It's his persona. It's like when a gay man decides to speak in a female tone. It is not natural, rather it is unnatural. It is doctored, It's a gimmick. However, it does what it is supposed to do. The 40's style accent with the 40's style suits and hairstyle are the persona of what his persona is. As for pronunciation, that is a simple as whether or not someone is educated , how fast they speak and if they frequently like to abbreviate and use slang. For example I can say in a formal situation "What are you talking about?" Or, I can say informally and with slang, "Whattaya talkin' bout'?" It only depends on your dialects and just for some extra food for thought, look at how many actors (who are not considered A-list world famous) who do entire movies playing a character from a completely different country with different accents.
Char Zy no man I’m into that too. I was just watching ‘By the light of the silvery moon’ great film if you haven’t seen it. It take place in the 20s and I thought the suits looked really nice. I liked the collar especially on those old dress shirts
@@sergeantbigmac Well, only up to a certain point. When the stomach starts bulging over the belt, that's a problem:( But it is true that they were more forgiving than the modern skinny suits.
your uplifting and genuine attitude has really impacted me. As someone who is quite literally crippled by my anxiety I feel inspiration and hope that it is possible to live a happy life regardless of whether I’m wearing myself out trying to fit in perfectly or not. you are unapologetically yourself, and I just want to let you know how truly inspiring it is to those of us who haven’t quite gotten there yet. 💕
Think of skinny jeans, shorts being “fashionably” shorter, etc. even tee shirts are thinner due to less thread count. I totally agree with you reviewbrah.
I’ve worn alternative fashion my whole life and ReviewBruh inspires me when he talks about his fashion. Walking around either wearing all black or rainbow is slightly different, but me and ReviewBruh have the same mindset when it comes to clothing.
I don't think tighter suits are because of using less fabric. The wide suits are a very American thing from times gone by. Look at British suits, e.g. from Savile Row, even from longer ago, they were very much more form fitting than American suits. It's just a style, a specific cut.
Depends on what era we're talking about. As someone who's seen and bought alot of vintage suits, my impression is that they were much wider and baggier over here in Sweden back in the day too. Not that they didn't fit. It was just a different fashion. eivor.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/uno-samuelsson_frank_frank_plutu_nilsson-2.jpg
Back when wearing suits everyday was the norm, making it baggier and more comfortable for everyday use made sense, and the companies didnt have to worry about sales. Now its more for special occasions so you only need one thats specialized to you, so the price sky rockets.
I hate how suits are disappearing. I just had my 21st and I went and got myself a nice suit jacket to go to the restaurant. When I got to this fancy restaurant, I was the only one with a suit jacket in the entire restaurant. One guy was wearing a sports jersey and cap. Such a shame
The guy in the cap should be escorted out, but its no longer the standard anymore that's important, especially when folks go on and pay for it anyway, even if the ire isn't any standard for a resturant, just look at fast food,,,shittyest restaurants on the planet making billions every year..
James Smith i think this was in reference to the resturant dress code, ill break it down: if the resturant is a dog gone common sense formal or at least semi formal attire establishment, has a historic reputation for being so, and people come there partially because of this, like suit guy said " on special occasions", then that's the prescident, that's what its historicly there for, to cater to customers looking for this experience. Most of the time you would probably label how I dress as grungy. T shirt and cargo pants in the summer and I'm done....but not at a steak house where people go to celebrate graduations and anniversaries,,get it? As far as fast food making bank, the amount of bank like any other business depends on many factors. One donut shop has better name recognition where I live than another, so the other even though it was good, didn't do well. Resturants that are suvsessfull generally increase sales over time, that is the goal, Mcdonalds started small and got bigger, partially because Ray crock set standards. Wal-Mart is another great example for business growth, Sam waltons quality control established the name recognition that primed super centers success.
G Wolf if you’re more worried about how another man is dressed than about what you’re eating or the service you’re being provided at the restaurant then I think you have more serious social issues you should confront first.
This comment kind of reminded me of that one scene from the Sopranos where Tony asks that one guy to take off his baseball cap in the restaurant haha. I feel you though, as someone who finds suits incredibly appealing. I try to wear it at every occasion I get when it’s suitable ,no pun intended. It’s just so...I don’t know how to explain it. Eloquent? Although I do enjoy the fashion of today, I adore the era of Suits and Sundresses.
God damn, man. You came out of the womb a fully formed friendly 1940s news radio man. That’s not an insult it’s just insane that you’re as unique as you are.
Can I just say: I always really liked the look of 80's and early 90's suits much more than today's, and I'm glad there's someone with a platform still keeping them going. I don't know what it is, but those shoulder pads just always did something for me. We need to bring those back. The shoulder pads were symbols of utter power.
When God saw that an increasing number of children were growing up without positive role models, he made Fred Rogers. When God saw that adults were struggling to see the good in themselves, he made Bob Ross. When God saw that millennials didn't know which fast food items to spend their hard-earned America-bucks on, he made Review Brah.
I started wearing suits in high school long ago. It was always annoying when people would be confused by that, Teachers even asked my parents why I wore suits. How hard is it to understand that if someone likes blue, they wear blue. Not to be cool or fashionable, that's just a color they like. Same with how I enjoy suits, just what I like. Matching the blazers with the perfect tie or shirt, or the shoes to go with it. It's a fun way to start the day. Helps to bring a dab of color to it.
Good suits cost quite the money, and they are forced on people from an age where they can't afford good ones. Or cant even pull it off. So by the time ppl have money for good suits they alreqdy hate it.

Interesting take, Review Brah. As a woman I like the look of the '70s YSL suits, with the slim fitting jacket and wide leg pants. I think they look kind of strange on men though. The only guy I ever thought looked good in them was Bowie. For men I really like the suits that were popular in the 30s before they turned into the zoot suits that were so prevalent during the swing era. Maybe those will come back. I do really like the one you have on here, the fabric is immaculate.
we're also supposed to have limitless clean energy, and flying cars. yet here we are. not much has changed except we found ways to keep shrinking a computer - Desktop, Laptop, Smartphone, Smartwatch, Sub-dermal Microchip.
As a suit lover myself, i really like wearing them, but wearing it for everyday use is quite impractical and depending the current weather can be a bit hot, so yeah. But seriously tho, everytime i got the perfect chance to wear my suit or even my beloved long coat, i always wear them
He prefers 80's and 90's style suits, that means he prefers a lower gorge on the lapel, longer length of the jacket, and shoulder padding. It's difficult to find more fitted suits with lower gorges, longer length and shoulder padding, unless you're willing to pay hundreds, of not thousands for a custom made suit
I love suits. I prefer the baggier kind too, the slim fits are very uncomfortable. I'm fine with the medium size ones, the ones that leave at least a bit of room.
I’m a greaser and I wear suits a lot as apart of my daily wardrobe, and I fully understand and get where your coming from my entire wardrobe consists of cloths from the40’s 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and almost no modern cloths at all, fashion will change but you just gotta “pony-up” grow some and don’t care what others think about what ya wear, it’s all about if your happy in the clothes and not what others think, keep up the good content report of the week, can’t wait for where you will go in the future
Love suits myself, but not baggy, not skinny. Not too long, not too short. No extremities. Somewhere between slim and regular-fit. Classic never goes out of style and always looks great.
Reviewbrah lectures in great detail about the importance and differences in suits and formal men’s dress ware before he downward swings an axe into his victims skull.
I think the slim cuts have persisted because fitted clothing has always looked good on people. Baggy suits were a more specific style, like baggy jeans and oversized band shirts in the 90s. You look great in them.
"Slim cuts have always looked good on people". That is purely subjective. Not everyone likes the look of slim suits or slim clothing in general. In any cause, this does not justify the trend of making everything "slim". This trend cannot and will not last forever.
StatingTheObviousDude you misquoted there, ‘fitted clothing has always looked good on people’ is a perfectly correct statement. Something doesn’t have to be ‘slim fit’ to be ‘fitted’
@@obvioushieidude7668 lol you are delusional. Every human finds the human form appealing, first comment is right, its not a specific "Trend" its just that literally everyone enjoys looking at others bodies in some shape and gender, whether you admit it or not.for example reviewbrahs suit is all about the suit itself, the clothes are the endgame of the outfit. Slim fit stuff is less about a specific style and the clothes themselves, they are essentially just a wrapping paper with which to show the form of your anatomy, go figure with everything being overly sexualized these days.
@@ShiftyTribes Idiot, not everyone finds clothing that accentuates the human form appeling. Especially if that person is out of shape (which most people who were these slim fit suits/clothes are). Even the ones who are in shape look like total fruitcakes with all that slim shit. Judging by your comment, you must be a fruit yourself.
You nailed it when said continue to use less and less fabric as the answer to keeping the suit business afloat. By the way,I love your suit choices. Just be you!
I'm really fond of 1980s fashion so thats what I wear. I can find wool, silk and beautiful high quality fabric for pennies at thrift stores. You get it reviewbrah, don't ever change.
Slim fitting suits also require the wearer to buy a new one more readily if their proportions change, be that height (for younger people) or weight. It also means you might need to get your suit tailored, which is more money in businesses' pockets.
Each time I see you I just smile, I can’t help it. Very insightful as always, really enjoy these different type of videos. I so look forward to your average day video!
Suits should definitely make some sort of comeback. I think a lot of guys take for granted just how much sex appeal they have. No matter how confident/good looking you are, with a good suit you can look good.
That sex appeal is sold to you via advertising though. I'm sure if these companies could they'd sell people on looking like 17th century aristocrats too.
hey reviewbrah, was wondering if you've heard of the channel Gentleman's Gazette? Sven stands out amongst other fashion channels as he enjoys classic menswear similarly to you. Also, the tie dimple is impeccable as always, thanks for another great fireside chat 🤙🏻
Not really sure why I find this guy's observations to be so comforting and calming. He kind of hypnotizes you with his drone and keeps the temperature nice and low emotionally. Reasonableness is in short supply a on the Internet. And he really does make that the central characteristic. Great stuff.
I have worn good suits even when it was not required of me; I feel comfortable in them, and I figure it makes sense to get as much mileage as I can get from my most expensive garments. What I found was that nobody else was hurt by it. In fact, in wearing them, I was garnering attention that I might not otherwise have had: I had others talk to me about how much they liked my ties; I had people, whose names I did not even know / with whom I had yet to become fully acquainted, recognize me by what I wore; I was regarded as the best-dressed person in the building. It is really quite amazing what is afforded to a person who aims to dress in this way. The opportunity to make a positive impression on many levels-and to feel comfortable while doing it-is right in front of our faces and is simple to take advantage of... so, why not take it? Of the many opportunities in life, this one is among the very few that are more or less handed on a silver platter.
I think you're ignoring two things: Making suits nore fitting isn't necessarily cheaper simply because they use less fabric. Making them list means that more people can wear it. Slimmer suits means more sizes/cuts which makes this more complicated and this more expensive. Also, I think the fashion industry in general is pushing to make suits more casual to account for this decrease in suit usage. There definitely are high luxury suits that are doing what you say but some are trying to make the suit less of a formal piece and just something you wear on a Friday night out. I think the increase in unstructured jackets is an example of this.
an ever so slightly looser suit looks more professional. more form fitting suits dont really scream im here for business, its just as bad as a suit thats too big.
Need a vest for that if yoy are doing it for fashion accessorization If for practical with a watch on a simple fob you won't get the nice chain look and people will think you just have a strop in the pocket
I think you're absolutely right. I've never even considered the fact that slim fit suits are pushed for the sake of saving on fabric. Can't trust ANY advertisement man...
im going to a wedding & it never crossed my mind to wear a suit. the blazer description to me sounds on point, the slacks preferably ill be doing without the slim fit style. I really do like this description, suit breakdown

They've figured out how to get men to buy accessory bags, seasonal wardrobe, and gym memberships for reasons other than bodybuilding, they aren't about to stop now. The more they can market form-revealing clothes, the more potential insecurities can be further marketed to.
My theory is that with slim suits you buy suits more often every time your weight changes.
Sad but true. Dress pants are gazillions times more comfy than any jeans.
This man must be protected at all costs

Mandy Pink it’s necessary. This ain’t no joke. If he dies then the last remnants of the 1930s era will die
Dude I love the way you speak, as someone that's not a native speaker and is constantly learning, I really like your accent and pronunciation
Yes, he speaks very proper for an America which is sadly, very rare.
but his inflection hurts

Fitted suits are a british tradition see any picture from 30s/40s/50s
I love oversized suits especially vintage.

I still love my 90's style suits. Now that I've lost weight I can wear them again. Thanks to this channel I AM going to start wearing them again!
i used to be the collar polo guy about every day in school. Luckily I haven't grown much because im breaking them out baby!!!
...And the nice part about 90s style suits was you COULD gain weight and theyd still fit lol

I think "fitted" would be a better word to use than "tighter".
I agree
James Smith excactly
Wal-Mart is another great example for business growth, Sam waltons quality control established the name recognition that primed super centers success.
its a restaurant, not a fashion show. If you get offended by what people wear then stay home. People dont wear suits because of snobs like you.
Dude, this is a great video, I personally prefer these types of your videos to the food reviews
Can I just say: I always really liked the look of 80's and early 90's suits much more than today's, and I'm glad there's someone with a platform still keeping them going. I don't know what it is, but those shoulder pads just always did something for me. We need to bring those back. The shoulder pads were symbols of utter power.

Reviewbrah, fashion libertarian: wear what you want as long as youre not hurting others.
You look great in your suits, My guy. You’re unique, And that never goes out of style.
I would dress like that everyday if I could. It's a reflection of how we feel about ourselves.
Good suits cost quite the money, and they are forced on people from an age where they can't afford good ones. Or cant even pull it off. So by the time ppl have money for good suits they alreqdy hate it.
You're so comforting. Lad, you were made fkr this job and don't let anyone think you made some wrong direction in life, you most definitely made a better choice than 99% of us and you're obviously more rich than 99% of us because of it. 👏

I think you look clean brother👍🏽
Yeah I think he had a shower and put on his old tyme gel and suit. I would say he looks crisp!
Its 2019, aren't we suppose to be wearing double neck ties like in Back To The Future #2?

Your business sense is very on point. As a businessman myself, I agree with everything you said; it is all about profit.
As a suit lover myself, i really like wearing them, but wearing it for everyday use is quite impractical and depending the current weather can be a bit hot, so yeah.
But seriously tho, everytime i got the perfect chance to wear my suit or even my beloved long coat, i always wear them
I can't stand wearing suits lol I'm more of the 80s metalhead look lol
Honestly, (and I'm not being ironic when I say this) why hasn't Reviewbrah become a male model yet?
He cannot do blue steel yet! But why male models?
I prefer the british drape cut with a full cut trouser.
I think my man could do with some vests
As a non-suit guy, I think those “slim fit” suits look way too small but your suit also looks too big. There has to be a middle ground.
Eric Fixalot ok centrist
Eric Fixalot A fitted suit is just that
He prefers 80's and 90's style suits, that means he prefers a lower gorge on the lapel, longer length of the jacket, and shoulder padding.

Slim fit stuff is less about a specific style and the clothes themselves, they are essentially just a wrapping paper with which to show the form of your anatomy, go figure with everything being overly sexualized these days.
slim cuts look amazing on male models, less fit guys, not so much
@@ShiftyTribes Idiot, not everyone finds clothing that accentuates the human form appeling.

Slim fitting suits also require the wearer to buy a new one more readily if their proportions change, be that height (for younger people) or weight. It also means you might need to get your suit tailored, which is more money in businesses' pockets.

I think you're ignoring two things:
Making suits nore fitting isn't necessarily cheaper simply because they use less fabric.
REVIEWBRAH IGNORING THINGS?? SHUT UP, HE IS A GOD.
an ever so slightly looser suit looks more professional. more form fitting suits dont really scream im here for business, its just as bad as a suit thats too big.
