Easy to use. This version does not have a digital timer ruclips.net/user/postUgkxRDB_bcaZEIluKD5LMPVlvPAA2E1HbFNo but to be honest the analog timer works well --- plus when cooking you often check things and there is probably a clock on your stove, one on your phone, on your wall, etc ...We have cooked a few things using the air fryer, some with the bake/air fryer combo. Also, it toasts bagels perfectly ... or as perfect as you can heat up bread. The air fryer basket takes some scrubbing, sometimes, to get it clean --- but that is the same with any wire basket. Maybe one minute if cheese or something gets on it.
Hi...I've had this oven for a few days, and am testing it out slowly, as I'm new to toaster ovens. Got the bamboo board for the top. So far, my electrical is handling the 1800 watts!! :D Thanks for a good video!
My Breville 845 just kind of imploded couple days ago. When plugged in the heating tubes would flash wildly and made loud buzzing sound, like an alien spaceship landing. My convection fan had failed when unit was only a year old, but I expected that from reading many reviews and I don’t use convection option much anyway. It was 5 years old and I loved it so I immediately ordered a replacement that arrived today. Will unpack it tomorrow and hope all functions work correctly. We are an elderly couple, and I rarely have need for my big oven. We do prefer toast and bagels in our regular Cuisinart toaster.
I love ours too. Best appliance in the kitchen. You are correct about the squeaky door. The fix is to lubricate the hinge. Spray a small amount of silicone in the lower left hand slot.
Thanks for the tip...I have the new air fryer so this one is getting retired.
Just brought this oven and this review was very informative thank you
Good for u. Glad my review helped.
Yes, I have a coated 12 count cup cake tray; fits perfect with room. I love this oven. I wash my oven with every use. Simple dawn in warm water cleans the bottom parts and the baskets. The air fryer and all its features are perfect. It's an amazing g oven. The door , btw, just use vinegar with a dryer cloth or paper towel. After every use.
Sounds great!
Can you tell me where to get a 12 count cupcake tray like yours, that fits? Thanks
@@kathrynreilly8591 Hello. Yes, I bought it long time ago from Wal-Mart.
@@christjesusordainedministr2099 Thank you.
I've had my 800XL for 11 and a half years! It just died this morning 😪 I used it daily, many days it got used multiple times. Never had a problem with it, other than the fan got a little noisy after about 6 or 7 years, but it still worked up until today. So I can't complain about it. It served me well for a very long time. I already bought another one, this time I got the 845BSS, which I believe is the one you show here. I hope it treats me as well as the last one.
Wow that was a good run!
I looked at this because my first one of these arrived today. I am very excited, hoping it is really good 👌
Hope you enjoy it!
This is exactly what I want to know. Many of the countertop oven reviews say the owner is replacing their previous oven. Which makes me think some of them are poorly constructed. I want to know if the Breville is reliable for years. Great review, thanks.😇😇
I got the mini to take up as little counter top space as possible and I love it. I previously had a cuisinart toaster oven for 10-12 years and noticed a huge improvement in performance from the Breville!
That's great, you might find you don't use your big oven!
@@homecookbasics How heavy is it? Most toaster ovens are too big for my counter, so I would be storing it and carrying it out when I want to use it.
I also had a Cuisinart and this thing is on another level
I've been looking at toaster ovens for quite a while. My first test is if I open up the door and it's squeaky and clanky, I move on. I've watched a lot of reviews on this Breville oven and yours is the best ... had to subscribe.
Thanks for subscribing!
Thank you for the good content
I have the Breville oven with the air fryer. I love it a lot! I just wanted to tell you something you can get to help with the problem with the drip pan on the bottom- there are “nonstick bake and grill mats” you can get. I got mine at WalMart. They are inexpensive and save a lot of time scrubbing. You can just pitch them when they get dirty. I still some grease on edges, but at least I don’t have to as much scrubbing.
Don't think you should put anything in there being so close to the heating element
I just bought the smart oven air fryer pro.. thank you!
I think you need to smoke one more joint. The toast thing at 2:15 had me rolling. Good content brother. Thanks
I have the instant pot version of this, I have found the quartz/ infrared elements not to be always the cat's meow. They do a lot well, but they Dsnt in my experience toast/ brown as well as traditional toaster oven elements.
Thank you for a review 👍🏼
My pleasure!
Thank you for that! I am looking to get the Breville Smart Oven Air. Are you going to do a review of that one, I would be interested in that! TFS, have a great weekend! 👍💖
Yes, soon
I had 2 of these for 10 years. The buttons are just starting to malfunction. I have learned that they need a new circuit board. I upgraded to the larger model today, but will try to fix the other 2. I use mine daily as that is my oven. I just wish it was larger. As far as muffin trays. I started using mason jars with parchment muffin liners. It works great and I can get 12 in the oven at a time. I bake everything in it like any oven and toast my bread too. The only issue I have had is the size.
My friend using his toaster oven lost 70 pads in 6 months. I have one and absolutely love it
I applied Vegetable Oil to that left noisy hinge and worked great.
Vegetable oil eventually goes rancid...
You didn't mention broiling. Does it come with a broiling rack? If so, can you move the rack higher up towards the heating elements?
You are going to love the air fryer version. Make sure you read that for air fry you have to preheat. The cleaning is the pain, they tell you only used soap but that doesn't clean I wish the next one come with a self-cleaning funtiin
Thanks for the tip! I have had mine for a few years now. I need to do a review.
Thank you for Sharing ❤️
I'll be buying one!
Hi i Just bought this oven, (sage variant in europe) from the 3 upper heaters the middle one only burns when on grill position, all the other programs it is of is this normal?
I see several broken fan posts. So I wanted to add that mine still works like new after 6 years. They're not all bad.
Hello, does this also have a microwave function if I am planning to warm pastas in a microwavable paper food box? I am planning to purchase it for the business. Thanks
He sold me @ 2:10
You can hear in his voice the levels of euphoria he feels from the oven's ability to toast bagels that leave the outside crispy and the inside soft.
LOL its so good.
Well, in my view, the product is changing. My first one lasted about 11 or 12 years, the next one lasted five years.... I just dropped this last one at the eco centre yesterday. And what a surprise! In the huge bin, there sat someone else's Breville... I think what Breville is doing is making them as cheap, cheap, cheap as possible. I've used mine every day without fail, because heating a large oven is costly. Canadian Tire has them on for 319$ , but with tax, up goes the price...
Nothing seems to last like they used to. Everything seems to be a throwaway, it really is sad.
I agree. Have 3 in the past 8 years. The quality is no longer there anymore. I am reluctant to upgrade to the air fryer version. The air fryer for one person is a waste. In Australia, it retails for $500. It's a lot.
That's funny. I remember writing papers in college on planned obsolescence back in the mid '70's. 1970's. They're obsolete, too,
if you want to toast quinoa, probably use only the bottom elements how to do this?
i got a nonstick mat for the tray, works great. once in awhile wash in hot soapy water, air dry, ready to go.
I get concerned with what is actually toaster oven safe.
@@homecookbasics I've had my mat in the toaster oven up to 450 degrees , no problems!
Will a Pizza Steel 13 1/4” X 13 1/4” fit inside?
Hi! I just bought the air fryer version of this. Threw the box away. After few days, i realized there are 2 scratches inside. Any advice?
For the crumb tray u can just coat it with dish soap and tiny bit of water, let it dry on it. It acts as a buffer that blackens but it washes right off the pan. We use this trick for camping when we put our pots in the fire and wan to prevent blackening/carbonization to the metal.
Just line the crumb tray with foil.
@@andrewfoster9809 it can overheat they advise against in the manual which i think could void warranty
Thanks for the tip. I just got my oven & did the ‘preparing the oven’ 15 minute thing. Would you suggest doing the dish soap thing now, prior to actual use?😊
Love the Cap...😍
I love my Breville Products!
I hope the air fryer thats coming is good!
I just bought one of these. I'm concerned that the sufaces get really hot. Also, is it safe for the counter if using granite?
I've had one of these for about 4 years now and use it multiple times a day.
The fan failed just after the warranty expired so I've been using it fan-less for about 3 years now. There is no point in opening it up as it's not meant to be serviceable and there are no replacement parts for this model. I believe it's the bearing that wears and/or seizes so it's not really fixable. (The fan will stay off if turned off until there is a power failure and you need to remember to turn it back off as it defaults to fan on when the power returns. Mine won't spin so there is no noise other than a soft hum when it's on.). There isn't that much difference or time saved with the fan on or off so it doesn't bother me not to have the fan working.
For anyone who's recently bought one, or thinking of buying one:
The magnetic pads on the inside door tend to wear and it may start grinding when it pulls the grill out. I dab a tiny bit of cooking oil on these pads and that left-side hinge every so often. Also, when the magnets pull the grill out, it puts a bit of downward pressure on the track the grill slides out from and wears out that black no-stick coating, so you also need to oil just the last bit of those slots on either side as well.
And, to keep the black 'time' and 'temp' lettering from wearing off, I carefully placed matte scotch tape over those. That panel doesn't get hot much and the tape has been in place for years without lifting. I would not put tape on the warning lettering on the door behind the handle as that area gets too hot (I don't think anyone cares if those rub off or not).
One of the great things about this model is that it uses quartz elements, unlike some of the other makes. These help preheat the oven at least twice as fast as the ovens using the black nichrome element rods.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy this same model again if this one ever completely fails.
(unless the air fryer versions have a better fan motor or a serviceable one, I'd be reluctant to pay the higher premium for that model).
Thanks for the info!
New to your channel. Wicked glad you did this review because we just bought this model. It’s awesome and size and the convection was the main reason we got it, but we want to try an air fry basket in there and gonna order one 14” that fits. Using yours?
It is a great little oven! No I haven't tried it yet its still in the box. The first one I ordered came damaged and now we have one that looks good... airfryer videos coming soon!
@@homecookbasics Will look forward to that. I’m looking for a fry basket/rack for fries in the Smart Pro Convection. Should circulate enough air.
I have had this oven over the years. The first one worked well. The second one stopped working after 3 years, the temperature would go up and then die. I bought another toaster oven 3 days ago and it never reached the temperature at all. Our food was raw. I used an oven thermometer and it didn't reach the temperature. I contacted Breville and they said that if I pay them $1 they will answer my questions. To talk to a person there is an hour wait. Very disappointed. Amazing that you have had good luck. I like all the features but it would be nice if they worked.
I have had my Breville 800XL for around 7 years, it has worked great.Only problem I had was a few weeks ago that the the oven did not count down on the timer while it was on buttt is working great now(Maybe its a one time thing?}Anyways I just Bought a New Cosori Toaster Oven Air Fryer CS130-AO for $129 at Walmarts,I wanted to get something with a Air Fryer and at $129 its a deallll. But I will keep my Breville in my garage just in case if the Cosori breaks down......
Just bought one today from the op shop for $35, looks new....fingers crossed.
Have you ever come across the E06 error code? Can't figure out how to fix it, and Breville hasn't been any help.
Do it cook burgers and hot dogs well like a grill
Your going to love the air-fryer. I bought mine three months ago. I used every day for lunch and dinner meals, since I do not have a stove with an oven. I use it to toast, bake, roast, and re-heat. The cost is higher than other toasters, but worth the extra price.
Good to know! I do have mine I'm on the second one now, I need to do the review.
Thanks for pointing out that the racks slide out. What a revolutionary idea!
Hello, how many inches is this?
We've had 3 of these. Their functionality is great, but 2 of the 3 we've had, the start button has stopped functioning w/in about 18 mos-2 yrs & they stop heating/browning evenly after about a year and you'll get darker stuff in the centre & lighter on the outsides of the racks. For the cost, I really expect it to last longer than 2-3 yrs.
Nothing lasts as long as it should anymore.
@@homecookbasics True, but for the cost of these ovens, they should last a lot longer than they do.
@@melp7614 I agree!
@@homecookbasics except my kitchenaid mixer. I got one of these exact units in October 2014 and it still mostly works. The control pcb is shot, can hardly read the display, but it heats evenly. ordered a replacement from ereplacementparts but it's on back order til the day after I die probably lol should cancel that, shytcan the unit, and get a replacement over the range microwave with convection -_-
Stop giving them your money.
I did find a nine well metal nonstick muffin pan on Amazon. Works great in the Breville Smart Oven Air Pro!
I'd like to know what brand and size souffle pan can be used in it. Thanks.
I just dont like non stick pans. No idea what the coating is!
I bought ours and about 1 1/2 years into it the fan also broke. I never contacted Breville about it and simply use it without the convection fan.
Now 3 years later we got the newer Smart Oven Air Pro. Hoping they have redesigned the fan. It’s crucial for air drying.
Hi. Good review. try the pink stuff to clean the tray and it will remove it completely.
What pink stuff?
What about the breville smart air fryer you talked about at the end of the video ?? Have you been using one? I haven't seen any video in your channel about that.
Yes I have, I need to make the video
I have the air fryer pro, love it……
Tip: Add foil to drip tray for easy cleanup.
Thanks for the review. Is it possible to use Pyrex to bake in this toaster oven?
I believe that they are not safe for toaster oven, you would need to check with pyrex.
Ive had mine for nearly 3 years and use it for everything. Although you need to be careful with baking bread. Dont let it rise above the pan or it can rise up and stick to the elements. I did check with Pyrex dont recommend it as the glass would be too close to the heating rods.
How to you clean the quartz heating parts? I have so much splattered food on them that they smoke when I use the broiler.
I dont.
Breville out of warranty will for a nominal fee send you another oven. Well worth replacing. I purchased a large Air Oven and when the replacement Oven came gave it as a nice gift.
How do you turn the unit off? We got one for Christmas and it doesn't shut off like the manual instructs.
The light should go out but yes its always on
Thanks or video!
I loved mine the fan started asking horrendous racket after 1.5 years and soon after big flash puff of smoke oven no more! 🥺😂 £250 for 1.5 years constant use isn't the worst value... thinking about buying a big Ninja 10 in 1 next?! Can't see it being as good as the Breville though?
No experience with the Ninja. Ya nothing lasts anymore
Any chance you can review the Breville Joule Air Pro? I’m wondering if it has an option to mute the noises, beeps, dings, clicks (if any). I am on the hunt for a toaster air fryer that I can silence. Is the Breville Joule the same as this one?
I probably wont, I think the only difference from the one I have is that it has an app to control your oven from a phone lol.
Thank you for the review, it’s a great oven, but the Smart Cooking Functions are a little confusing. What is a difference between Roast and Bake functions? Both are convection, temperature and time settings are adjustable… is there a difference in how the heat elements work?
Bake vs roast setting is primarily based on food you are cooking. Baking is an even distribution of heat between elements as the baking dish is in direct contact with food and conducts well.
With roasting the bottom element heats more, as the roasting pan with drip tray is assumed to be used, and acts like a heat shield. So the oven compensates for that.
Bake for unstructured food (dough, cakes, breads, etc) or covered food, usually lower temperature slower cooking. The fat is incorporated in the food.
Roasting is best for structured food, chicken or vegetables, uncovered, fat is usually applied on the surface food, higher temp and air circulation to promote a better crisp and browning of the food.
Wow thanks for commenting 🙂
How to turn it off? Please some one tell me?
Mine , the wires caught fire after 10 years... I changed it for a Delonghy livenza in exchange for bonus points from my credit card, but I missed a lot my Breville one.
that's not cool!
Have you tried baking banana bread or cakes? Does it yield the same result as baking cakes in a traditional oven?
I have the air-fryer one now and we have baked a few cakes in it.
Hi! does this still have a dehydrator function?
This one does not, the air fryer model does.
wish i bought the bigger one, guessing much more practical
do you think the Breville is better or Cuisinart oven? I have the Breville Smart Oven and Espresso maker. I tried an air fryer different brands and I find it makes the food dried out so I wouldn't want one.
I have not used a Cuisinart, sorry cannot help
Ok Breville this man ready for a New Advance Smart Oven , With No charge ..
Sign me up!
Do you leave this permanently plugged in to mains power or just connect when using it? My microwave is permanently plugged in as it has a clock, but I'm not sure whether that LCD display will stop working. Any experience please. Thanks
I leaved mine plugged in but you don't have to. If it is not plugged in the LCD won't be on.
@@homecookbasics thanks, that's good to know👍
How doe it toast english muffins and bagels?
The best no question 👌
I should’ve got this I always wanted this but I got the ninja xl and I hate it every frozen food it cold in the middle and burnt on top
I don't have any experience with ninja products.
Can you bake a pie in it? I like your review - very realistic, thank you.
Yes, absolutely
Can you fit two trays in? As in, make pizza and fries at the same time?
Not so much in this one. You can in the bigger air fryer one.
I have a Breville toaster oven too which is 16 years old I think. I'm ready to replace it with the air fryer one that costs a fortune but if you average it out over 10 years it's only 40$ a year. cheap right?
Yes, that's a deal!
There are TONS of 1-star and 2-star Amazon reviews for this suggesting that it is poorly made and can break down catastrophically.
Glass door shattering while cooking, knobs breaking down, fan breaking down, door hinge breaking down because of poor design, the unfixable "E06" error etc.
On top of that, tons of people having issues contacting Breville for customer support. Not being able to get ahold of anyone, long wait times, having to wait weeks for them to get your air fryer and make a decision on it, or never even getting contacted back by Breville.
Makes me want to avoid at all costs!
My man. A drop of oil on the hinges and clean the tray with bar keepers friend. That’s 2/3 of your cons taken care of ☺️
Its not the hinges the metal was rubbing. I got the air fryer so this one is in the closet...lol
Try some dry graphite, as it won't be affected by heat. Get a super-soft 6B artist's pencil and scribble it across the metal. Use will then distribute to graphite onto both surfaces and quieten that squealing noise.
My fellow Red Sox fan, Marlborough born & bred. May I suggest Cuisinart Chef convection oven see reviews. Jeanne
I'm a Breville fan!
I did just order a Breville Smart Oven Pro! Jeanne
I’m having this smoke issue. Whatever meat I use drips onto the heating rods under it and causes the whole kitchen to smoke. Does anyone else have this problem?
I would be careful with what pan your using. If it can drip it should be in a pan.
Which breville are you buying now?
I got the air fryer version.
First the fan went out and it couldn't be repaired, then the on/off started working intermittently and now it won't power up. The thermal fuse has probably gone out. We liked the oven but there are too many owners who complain about the reliability.
I had to return one of my air fryers, will do a video.
My Breville still works great, but the LED panel has a mind of it’s own. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. Overall, a great little unit, as it does keep temps well.
How do you use it when the LCD is not working? I'd have thought it would be unusable if the LCD isn't working. Can you please explain? Thanks
@@rickbear7249 Sure. You can’t always tell how much time is left; however, you know, through prior use, about how much time you will get with a particular setting. You can also get clues when the minute changes, etc. In other words, is it ideal?: no. But can I still use it, and does it still work better as an oven than any other toaster oven I’ve seen?: yes. I hope that explains what I meant more clearly.
@Scott Keller thanks for getting back, but I'm still confused. If you cannot see the display, how can you actually select a program, or even a temperature? Surely you need the display to select anything, even if you're not using the Smart settings? It sounds most intriguing.
@@rickbear7249 The display is not completely out. You can see what program you’re on (like Toast or Bagel). What is bad is the numerals that count down, so you’re not sure how much time is left. Sometimes, it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but you can still use it.
@@skeller61 thanks, again, for providing more information. That's really good to know. So, in effect, you're back to using a kitchen timer and experience. It makes sense now. 👍
How about showing us how to COOK with it?
What size dutch oven will fit in this?
Not sure I dont have one small enough.
Ease of cleaning interior?
I use a wet dish towel that is warm. If the oven is a bit warm it also makes it easier.
Hi how do you protect the print on your Breville?
Print?
@@homecookbasics the label printed on the stainless steel (example - on off timer airfry logo etc etc located at the right side of breville)
did you ever roast a whole chicken in there? is there enough room?
Nope but plenty of room say for a 4 lb chicken.
Can this function as air fryer?
Possibly but not to the full extent of the air fryer pro...the fan goes a lot faster
I've just bought the smart oven air see how we go
Awesome, let me know how you like it.
Can this be used as a microwave?
Nope
Why do toaster-ovens always break? Every one that I get has something stupid break on it and makes it useless.
Does it leak oil on the sides? Mine does.
no
@@homecookbasics thanks
I just purchased one yesterday ; a bit more than I wanted to spend. After watching the video's/ the intro and the review, I'm a little skeptical about it. 😮 But, all in all, I hope I made a wise purchase!!😊
WD-40 Should stop your door scrape and Pam Spray will make your drip pan easier to clean.
No wd-40 near my oven or even Pam Spray.
Mine finally conked out after 9 years.
👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
The more moving parts, the more that can break. :) My B&D toaster oven is going on 20+ years now...
That is awesome 20 yrs. The air fryer just came in so we shall see how that ones does.
Red Sox baby!!!
Ohh Ya!
Will it bake a cake?
Absolutely
the FANS give out without 1-2 years. Lot of people are complaining about it.
I just threw mine out. It worked 100%. But it’s really really dirty. It’s 11 years old. And it worked excellent just my current girlfriend doesn’t like to cook in it because it’s really really dirty so I just bought the air fryer the biggest one they make.
