    I went with a forester myself. My wife had a rav4 that lasted about 3 years then the engine completely died on her. We had read all about the reliability of toyota so we were taken completely off guard. We suddenly had to purchase a car and without any time to save for one she chose the subaru crosstrek because of the price and awd. She's had it for 3 years now and it is such a great vehicle. Persuaded me to purchase a Forester as my Kia Sorento (i'm ashamed to admit i bought one) died on me "unexpectedly" too. The Forester drives GREAT and all the talk about engine power, I can't say I ever really noticed it. I do a lot of city/highway and don't off road or haul much so it's never been a problem for me.

    I don't know why everyone is so fixated on a turbo, it's more moving parts that could possibly break. A 180hp is plenty adequate for a wagon. No one is buying these for racing, and if you need the extra power buy a WRX.

    • @jeejay98

    I test drove the RAV4 before buying the Forester Wilderness. Both are good SUV's, but I liked the split screen, roominess of the cabin, and driving position (lower body lines gives you more of an outward/upright position-like a pick up truck). I am at 5K miles with no issues. Honestly, the Wilderness trim was deciding factor.

    I’ve already spent $400 on mice damage on my silverado lease so I can’t imagine what the costs could be on a hybrid!! And with about 8 mpg at best difference for highway driving which I do most, I prefer gas only. I plan on long term ownership so want to stay away from a turbo too! Remember you said Fords 4 cylinder turbo’s are problems? How about these guys???
    I have 6 months left on silverado and we want to downsize and buy. I will never pay more than msrp and am beginning to make notes of dealerships that rip people off. I plan to publish those soon through a powerful friend! So I’ll keep you informed even if I buyout my silverado lease. We appreciate your in depth and honest feedback especially about reliability issues. Some guys make it sound that the infotainment system is most important!! Or how the stereo sounds! They don’t work when it’s in for needless repairs!! Reliable transportation is for people who can’t afford to buy or lease every time before warranty runs out!!!
    Thanks!!

    Researched this car segment for the last 2 months, my findings, - 5th gen forester rated #1 in safety and readability over all others including RAV, trial hawk, honda and bronco. That said, it has been a long road for Subaru from the CVT tranny , oil consumption, head gasket issues of past generation vehicles. At 6'3, CR just announced the Forester is #1 with tall drivers as well, no surprise as the "green house" visibility is very attractive. All the safety dings can be disabled permanently, with the exception of engine on/off at stop. After market solution will solve that as well. So, I will be picking up my Subaru Forester Wilderness / pearl white next week. Comfortable driving on and off road, safety and readability, looks, honest service advisors that I have visited with during this time, all have pushed me this direction. And finally driving my daughters 2017 Forester premium, sold me on being a Subie owner. Suggested maintenance to ensure long life; 30k diff (F/R) service, 40k CVT Transmission service, and oil changes every 4k.
    ruclips.net/video/ZF_JtgJ7aKQ/видео.html, FW new gearing much more high impact then the turbo on the Outback, and the turbo fights with other features of the vehicle

    Been there done that with a Subaru turbo. It blew up twice - the second time out of warranty. Good riddens! It also weirdly hesitated before acceleration. I'd never buy a car with turbo again! I'm quite happy with a less complicated more reliable engine.

      @Cap683 Год назад

      Thanks for the report on your experience with the turbo engine. This seems to be a problem across all makes of cars. When I chose my next car, I will go for a base engine. Reliability means much more to me than being able to go faster. Subaru has a reputation for being a little sleepy when accelerating but many Subaru owners say that this is not an issue in their experience.

  • @RonaldCober
    @RonaldCober Год назад +2

    I will stay with Forester gas models as the hybrid only adds complications with now 2 drive sources and what will the battery replacements cost you down the road? Add in the environmental impact of battery building and then disposal, a 33 MPG Forester will have less overall impact than a Hybrid.

    The thing about this review…the intro…it’s all purely subjective. Power train, horsepower, torque etc. we have one of these and the power is more than adequate for n everyday driver and a highway cruiser. Like every car, test drive everything and carry a checklist. Check off your list yea or nay as you drive each one. This is a great way to pick your best choice. He summed it up with the phrase utilitarian design…AKA practical for everyone.

    If the commenter/ reviewer knew anything about power to weight ratios…some math and physics involved here…he would realize that the power to weight ratio is fine. Everyone these days wants a rocket on wheels and that is not what is needed. The only reason subaru runs the turbo is because of this demand. The ace ration on this car…and all 2.5 Subaru vehicles is great for every day driving…but not the drag strip.

    Hi Shari, here's my take: the RAV4 has 37.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats, while the Forester only has 28.9 cubic feet, and you can buy a RAV4 hybrid that's not only more fuel efficient (as you point out) but that also has considerably more horsepower (219 versus the Forester's measly 182). Given the small additional cost to buy the hybrid version of the RAV4 that will get paid back at the pump in 3-5 years, I just don't see any compelling reason to consider the Forester.

    people should know about subarus "cracking windshield problem."
    People, if you havent heard of this yet, pls look into it before buying a subaru.
    To sum it up, for the love of god make sure you have windshield insurance. Ive heard of ppl having the windshield crack the day they bought it. Ive also heard ppl replace their cracked windshield, only for it to crack days later.
    It has something to do with the eye sight system, and if you replace the windshield it must be a subaru oem windshield ($1000), and theyll have to recalibrate your eyesight system ($600).

    I was leaning strongly towards the 2022 Forester for our new car, but our household's primary driver took a test drive and told me they can't see the blind spot properly, an issue they did not notice on the RAV4 test drive. They (the driver) are rather short, so perhaps the seatback is partially in the way, but my only guess is the mirrors were not adjusted properly or the seat was not in a good position. Any thoughts? The Forester's visibility is class-leading, and I just can't imagine that even shorter drivers should have problems seeing the blind spot.

    The only reason I'd buy a Forester over Rav4 or CRV would be price, if it's cheaper otherwise I'd prefer a more powerful engine or hybrid engine that Toyota and Honda offer, Honda engine is small but the turbo gives it a lot of extra power, I can feel that with my Accord, in ECO mode the power is poor but economy is great, but if you choose sport mode that gives it a lot of extra power, and CRV have exact same engine. The Rav4 has even more power than CRV. Like Shari say all 3 are very reliable cars, Toyota makes the most reliable cars but Honda and Subaru are very close, so if you won't keep the car long time any of 3 are good choice.

      Yes, would buy the upcoming Rogue with turbo engine over the forester. If I don't care about lower gas mileage and weaker engine, the Forester is a good investment.

    I really like the looks and all the great features of the Forester Wilderness, but ... the old school boxer engine and the problematic CVT bring me down a bit. The RAV4 Adventure is missing some good Subaru stuff, but it does have Toyota Torque Vectoring, a real 8-speed transmission and a more "capable" engine. I like the Forester but my wife wants the RAV4. Guess which one we are going to get. 😏

    These turbo engines are so bad. I have a buddy who I used to work with has a 2018 civic hatchback sport touring and his engine is knocking so he had it towed to the dealer, apparently, his bearings and block is fucked up due to the oil dilution. He is so upset and says it's a shit box now.
