With practice it will become second nature. Enjoy the journey. As soon as you have the opposite heel down your teacher will switch it up and teach you a step with same heel. Lol this is the life of a tap dancer. I’m so excited for you. Thanks for the comment too.

That’s great! Do you still tap just messing around at all? I find certain steps sneak back in for people even after they stop taking lessons! For example paradiddles 🤪
Love that too. Anytime we can give credit to all the talent that paved the way in this art before us I’m here for it! Thanks for the comment. Happy tapping
Wow, you're good! I want to tap, well dance in general. It looks difficult...but of course, with anything- practice makes perfect. I get my inspiration from watching Golden Age tap numbers like the Nicholas Brothers, 'Bojangles' Robinson, Eleanor Powell...I have gotten the majority of my intrest for tap is from my favourite dancing duo, "Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers". I may be bias in saying this, but nothing beats them when they two become one on the dance floor. They showed me it just isn't dance; it's a form of expression. I love music from the time too and I catch on to the rhythms quite easily. So maybe when I start to learn, that'll help me put my feet to the beat or toes to the test!😁
For sure that incredible duo has inspired many! I wrote a school report on them once in middle school! Beautiful and timeless! I'd love to invite you to join my free weekly lessons called Tap in 10. Check out www.tapfitfam.com for more

This was definitely the Shirley Temple for me. Never took a class but had tap shoes and copied people like Shirley on TV. Scratched up my grandmas floor pretty good...lol
@@tapfitfam it took me a couple times to get the steps figured out. And I finally got it and I’ve been practicing it a lot. And our dance teacher just showed us how to do it the other day and she calls at the Broadway and she said I did it very beautifully, thank you for your tutorials. I told her classmates about your site.
called an "Alexander" in the Vaudeville tap area and named such in most tap dictionaries along side the other names everyone uses. But there are so many names for different things these days. Now when I teach I just say flap, heel, heel, brush, heel, toe, heel! haha!
I was taught it as a "Lindy" (when done in a swung rhythm as in her first speed up) because it resembles a jazz Lindy (chassé rock step, chassé rock step) :)
Interesting. I have never heard this as a Lindy but I do a lindy with the same concepts just all on the balls of the feet and no heels. It’s a bouncy technique and a lot of fun for moving side to side. Thanks for the comment
Great question, These are Miller & Ben's Triple Threats! Amazing shoes and I've had these shoes for nearly 15 years now! So much music made in them :) However, if you're a beginner I would not recommend this shoe. Reason being its a lot of build up and hard to break in. I would recommend their Jazz Tap Master but even still there are cheaper really good shoes for beginners you can start with. (sorry I know that was more info than you asked for) But I LOVE these shoes and the men that make them!
@@ursulawalker1945 wow never heard of this name. The step version you are speaking of I would call more of a Lindy. Fun to hear all the variations of tap
So seriously--what's the original name for that step? When I referred to it as "Shirley Temple" to my current tap teacher--who happens to be black--he says to me, "But who taught Shirley Temple? Bill Robinson."
As far as I know, the verdict is out on who originated the step. That's the reason a lot of people call it a Eleanor Powell though, to give credit to her as creator. I'm not 100% certain though and your teacher has a solid point.
Great tapping....but would it be possible to show the steps in slow motion and have a longer section of a slower pace. Basically a tutorial for true beginners.
Yes it has many names. You must really love tap dance Kay as you’ve left a couple comments so far on my videos. I hope you always have it in your life as an outlet and form of self expression. ✨
@@K-bop-vq8fb I have a variety of speeds in tutorials I share online so this one may feel a little quick for you. How long have you been tapping? What are you struggling with most?
Elinore Powell deserves to be remembered for the dance, in my humble opinion 😊.
Believe I learned this as an "essence"
Teacher also used "I like to tap, cause tap is great" to help remember the rhythm
Yes, I have heard teachers do that - so fun
We are currently learning this step in class, we call it the shirley temple.
Its tricky to remember to do opposite heel, but im getting there 😊

I Love it! Is there a name when it's done with the same heel? Or is it just an invention??
Wow! Amazing 😁💃👍

What a couple of talented actors and dancers they were.
Took tap for a short while; always loved tap as my dad also loved tap.

Yes! I can’t wait to celebrate with you. Please check back in here and let me know how it went ❤
My tap teacher called that step a Gene Kelly. It fits perfectly with the little melody he doo-dah-doot-doos at the beginning of "Singin' in the Rain."
Love that too. Anytime we can give credit to all the talent that paved the way in this art before us I’m here for it!

Show off! 🤣
Well done
Thank you Randy! Do you do this step too?

"shuffle, ball, change" ... all I can remember from 1964.
Some sing in the shower. Some dance in their living room, still.
Never stop dancing and singing!

I live in the flat below tap tap tap all night long !!
I personally wouldn’t mind but not everyone in my family would agree with me. Hahaha are you here to learn too? Let’s dance 👯♀️🤗
In the 70’s our dance school called it The Broadway.
yes that's another common name for it too
I love your tap shoes! Might I ask where they are available?? Thanks!
These are @MillerandBens tap shoes and the style I'm wearing are the Triple Threats

Always name things using the best tap dancer of all time. Don’t forget the Nicholas bros.
I learned it as a “Tackie Annie”
Tap dance is such a crazy art form, I have a different step for a Tack Annie. haha Thanks for the comment - keep tapping

It's a side step (Australia). Can also be done with stamps instead of heel drops.

Hello, could you tell me where I can buy this model of shoe? I'm a man and I'm in Brazil.
que difícil!!!!🥲
One I was taught it’s a Shirley Temple
Two play it in two times speed it is hilarious
Bojangles and Staircase
