Learning tap was my secret childhood dream. I just ordered a pair of tap shoes ($20.00 on amazon) and I've got a nice hardwood floor in my living room. So what if I'm 54 years old? I'm going to learn how to tap dance and NOTHING is going to stop me. I've waited long enough

I'm so happy for you ! I'm 18 and it's been only two years that I have the same dream (so not even remotely as long as you ) and I swear I'm gonna take classes once I'll have a job and an appartment/studio ! >:D

Yeah, I did tap from ages 4 to 10 so 6 years, I’m thirteen now and I would start lessons again but my mom won’t let me because or COVID-19. This reminded me of some simple steps I used to do.
I used to do tap for about 4 years when I was young. I was very good at it, but I kinda stopped. Now I'm getting into theatre, and I'm about to audition for my 3rd play! The play has tapping in it and I'm going to be purchasing a new pair of tap shoes on Wednesday and get back into tapping. Thanks for this tutorial, it really helped!
One thing that really helps get into the tap dance mindset: start your improv with a limited movepool. See what you can do with only heel drops and toe taps. Experiment with rhythm, repetition, pauses, and everything else. Then you can add shuffles and flaps to drastically increase your perimeters before even touching the 'fancy' stuff.
I decided to learn to tap myself just a month ago! I've never taken a dance lesson in my life and had horrible fear of failing. Luckily, our instructor has taught all levels of dancers and she's got the patience of a saint. We're learning the Coles Stroll and once we get to the end of it, everybody that was in step is now out of rhythm. I can only imagine what my teacher is thinking about the cacophony of hoofing foot noise knowing that she knows how it ~SHOULD~ sound. I actually start giggling so hard I loose my rhythm because the sound is so awful and hilarious. It goes from this beautiful syncopated sound to cows stomping in a barn :-) I've been taking lessons for 4 weeks and am loving it! I decided to put in a small dance floor in my garage (I bought snap together tiles for tap dancing and foam underflooring - the first 2 weeks I tapped on concrete *laugh*), am adding a flat screen TV with a DVD player which will be here tonight (oh boy!) so I can watch DVD's , RUclips videos (I bought a cable to connect my phone to the TV), and my teacher (who let's me record her) and practice at home every night in a warm garage during the cold Oregon winters. I love finding people that have posted these videos, especially for those of us new to tap. So you get at it girl and don't look back - your body will thank you. I can only hope it gives you as much joy as it has for me. I'm unapologetically addicted.

Thank god, a youtube tap tutorial that talks about the importance of loose ankles from the word go. And starting out with toe heels (probably the most underapreciated step in tap that connects almost any combo or rhythm you have) Well done.
Just purchased your course. My grandson takes tap lessons and I wanted a tutorial that would help me support him with practice throughout the week. But I’m dusting off my shoes now. This is amazing! Thanks!
What a great demonstration. I took tap classes many years ago as a young adult, my tap shoes are still in my cupboard (!) and I would really like to take classes again. Growing up in a small conservative town, there were dance teachers who taught tap, but in those days it wasn't the thing that boys did. 😢 It's a wonderful form of exercise and of course being able to tap dance is just the greatest! You have inspired me.🤩
Hi Brian! Thank you for your comment - thrilled to hear you appreciated the video and found it helpful. I hope you keep going! Wishing you all the best on the next phase of the adventure! 👞
Thank you!! thank you!! THANK YOU!! I love dancing and I dance rather well, -sorry not to be modest- but I never learnt how to tap dance. I am hitting 70 and after I saw your video, I know I will --finally-- learn how to tap dance. You sure know how to teach dance. God bless every dancer in the world. January 15, 2021
Thank you so very much for this video. I took tap a few years ago and stopped. Now, since watching your video, I am encouraged to start back tap dancing!
I'm just starting tap in about three days and I'm really nervous so I went on RUclips to try and find some pointers and this video helped me tremendously keep up the good work! And can you please do more tap for beginners you explain it very well
I used to do tap but the class was removed because not enough people were taking it. I’ve since moved studios and have been thinking about taking it up again! This video is an amazing introduction back into tap so thank you!
I had probably the best tap teaching set up ever. My aunt's friend had been dancing before she could walk and worked as a tap teacher. I got private lessons weekly and cute tap shoes I got for Christmas. Then she left the studio I believe for school purposes. Anyways it's been over a year and I really want to get back into in!
I've always wanted to learn some form of dance. Hip hop and pop and other dance styles of the like were always weird to me (i feel uncomfortable shaking my hips and just moving in general) and tap dancing has always appealed to me! It's so great to see such a well explained and professional feeling video. This kind of teaching will get my stick stiff body moving in no time!!
We called this the "Shuffle ball stomp" when I took tap at Glorianne Rossi's Dance studio in Warren Ohio. I was about five years old when I followed my older three sisters in dance! I loved tap! I still find myself doing the shuffle ball stomp when I'm on a wooden floor! Thank you for the precise movements of the knee and ankle in doing this dance step. I'm waiting on my tap shoes to arrive in the mail. If I have to exercise to keep moving so I will be fit, I might as well enjoy it! 💃
Thank you for your kind comment! 🙂 Yes tap terminology can vary between locations. Glad you're still enjoying 'shuffle ball stomping' around, and that's fantastic you've got some tap shoes on the way! I hope you enjoy diving back in. Wishing you all the very best! 👏🏻
I haven’t watched the whole thing yet but these seems helpful specially because I have done tap in about 6-7 years and the class I’m in has been doing this for years ;-;

Tap shoes will naturally stretch over time, but if your shoes are uncomfortably small, it might be best to try a size up.

Hooray! Tap will definitely help with that ☺
Just purchased your course. My grandson takes tap lessons and I wanted a tutorial that would help me support him with practice throughout the week. But I’m dusting off my shoes now. This is amazing! Thanks!
That's wonderful to hear Svea! And such a lovely thing to do with your Grandson. All the very best, and I hope you love the course! :)
Just did my first ever tap class tonight. I’m 50 and have no clue but I’m going to practice all week either this video .
Hooray! I hope it helped ☺
I’m 59 and thinking about learning tap… I’m an actress and think it my best a nice addition plus I love to dance.

I'm so happy I found this! My work schedule doesn't allow for regular dance classes and I miss tap SO much.
Happy to hear it :) I hope it helps!

I'm just starting tap in about three days and I'm really nervous so I went on RUclips to try and find some pointers and this video helped me tremendously keep up the good work! And can you please do more tap for beginners you explain it very well
I randomly felt the urge to learn how to tap dance and this really helped!

I used to do tap but the class was removed because not enough people were taking it. I’ve since moved studios and have been thinking about taking it up again! This video is an amazing introduction back into tap so thank you!
Thanks Abi! I appreciate the kind words, and that's great that you're keen to take up tap dance again 👏🏻 👞 All the best!
Just started tapping.. Got my tap shoes Capezio. Very comfortable shoes. This has been a lifetime goal. Thank you for core steps and I want more!

I havent done tap since i was about 5. Honestly this is the perfect time to get back into it. Thanks so much 😊
Hooray! Yes there's never been a better time :) all the best!
Hooray! Needless to say, we totally support your desire to get back into tap dance 🙂
Ive been doing theatre for 10 years. I’ve always wanted to learn Tap Dance. So excited!
Woohoo! You got this! :)
Thank you for including glimpses of how fast these steps can get. It's helpful to know exactly what the goal is you're shooting for when practicing.
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment :)
That's great to hear! All the best on your tap dance adventure, and let us know if we can help ☺
Thank you for your support
My pleasure! ☺️🙏
lmao it’s quarantine time so i’m gonna learn the most random things
Hooray! :)

Yes absolutely! Thank you for reaching out, and for your kind offer. I would definitely be open to including other subtitles in the video, and would greatly appreciate your input.
