    I recall all of that backlash. It could appear fairly substantial depending where one looked but the reviews were mostly very positive.
    It’s about personal bias seasoned with a little confirmation bias. Audiophiles generally don’t like a digital source replacing an analog source. They want analog straight away so if they hear it’s digital instead of an analog source, it’ll be judged as sub-par or worse before they even listen to it.
    It’s easy to forget that all of us listen to music quite differently, usually with different equipment and in different sized rooms that contain different acoustical dynamics. Therefore opinions, in this realm, carry limited weight.
    I jumped on the 2014 Led Zeppelin re-issues (on CD) about a year and half after their release and I was very, very impressed with their sound. I acquired the entire collection.
    The Highs, Mids, & Lows have more detail and the soundstage is fabulous.
    I still have them as I enjoy CD playback very much. It’s the bulk of my collection of which I have zero intention of duplicating with vinyl.
    I still highly recommend the 2014 CD remasters.
    I recently got back into vinyl (after a 30 year hiatus) earlier this year and have begun building my Zeppelin collection yet again. I have 3 studio albums to go before I’m done.
    The vinyl pressings have all been amazing. I enjoy the warm-ish tone that they convey on vinyl. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them.
    But that’s me.
    Great Video!
    Well Done!

      Great points! I’m glad to hear you are getting back into vinyl and that your ears agree with mine regarding the 2014 LZ reissues. Are they the absolute best versions you can buy? No. Are they a good and affordable option? Absolutely.
      Cheers!

    Great video! Definitely needed to be addressed, I agree these 2014 reissues sound good and for me they serve as placeholders until I find an original or decide to pull the trigger on a classic records reissue. But the good thing is that I buy the deluxe versions with the bonus material so they’ll retain a value even after potentially better sounding copies of the albums themselves are acquired. Digital sources vinyl can sound nice, but I do also understand not wanting to invest in analogue when the source isn’t analogue. For me it’s a balancing act between cost/availability and how much the album means to me.

      Well said! 👏 The 2014 remasters are solid placeholders until something better comes along, but if it never does you still have solid copies! Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see AAA reissues cut at 45rpm from the original tapes... but I fear it may never happen.

      Same here, that's where I'm at.. I also got the deluxe versions of the whole catalog, which are placeholders until I track down old analog cuts. 🤘

    Jacob, I was turned onto your RUclips channel by Frank from Channel 33 RPM. I really appreciate your honesty and take on the remastered Zeppelin. I recently got back into vinyl heavy during the shutdown. I purchased remastered HOH and found it sounds very good to me. I am like many Zeppelin fans hoping one day to get a hot take of Zeppelin II. I do have a non hot copy and enjoy the album but would love to hear the RL release. I subscribed to your channel and will be looking forward to watching more of your videos.

      Frank is the man! And welcome back to the vinyl community! My opinion on the Zep reissues isn’t popular with the audiophile community. Don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE to have all analog reissues with the full audiophile treatment… but the current reissues are good, just not the BEST the could have been. And I think that’s what frustrates a lot of collectors. And I’d love to have an RL cut if Zeppelin II! That is definitely a grail for me too. Thank you for subscribing!

    Hey Jacob Hope you're doing well my friend. somebody just commented on my led Zeppelin video I hadn't watched it for like 9 years so I decided to watch it.
    after I did this video popped up in my feed so I watched it again.
    I have mellowed out a little bit about the 2014 remasters cuz you're you are correct on everything you say about the records.
    I was just so disappointed because I didn't read the Michael fremer announcement that they were going to be digital.
    I still was thinking they were going to be analog and when I listened to them compared to the classic records for me,
    I was disappointed.
    for the money if you just want to buy a vinyl for your record player they're fantastic.
    Hope you doing well my friend take care 😊

    Ohh yes, despite what many people say, the current reissues are quiet, pressed at Pallas, quiet and very clear sounding.
    I owned a Classic Records Zep I and the difference wasn’t night and day vs the 2014. I recently sold it for $300 and used the funds to upgrade my audio equipment. On the other hand I bought an OG Zep I SD 8216 PR, and that one sounds AMAZING, noticeable better than both reissues, very hot and clear and dynamic. I also own several other US OGs and 70s reissues that sound inferior than the 2014s, for example: PG, HOTH, ITTOD, the 2014s are an upgrade since most originals are poor sounding, unless you hunt for an specific pressing.

    • @Rockoli
      @Rockoli  2 года назад

      Agreed! I had a few of the Classic Records pressings and I felt the same as you. I would love to hear what the OG Zep I sounds like along with the legendary RL cut of Zep II. Maybe one day! Cheers!

      Lovell! Great to hear from you! I wish I had all the Classic Records pressings but they are getting ridiculous in price these days. But the 2014 remasters are a fantastic placeholder until a deal on a better copy comes your way. Take care!

    I have LZ 1&2, HOH, and Physical Graffiti, all remastered in 2014. They all sound great to me, especially with none to compare, I just don't care about how they achieve the sound quality, just that they do make it, and well worth the money. I am about to purchase the Song Remains the Same box set, which I believe was remastered same way. Any review or info on that box set? Have you listened to it yet?

    • @Rockoli
      @Rockoli  4 года назад +1

      I don’t have their live box sets yet, but hopefully in the near future. From my research I believe they received the same Jimmy Page treatment as the studio albums with the same sort of mixed reception. So if you like the 2014 studio album remasters, I bet you’ll also like the live album remasters!

      Rockoli Records - It’s good to see you again! The newer Rush albums on 200 gram are getting hard to find. Albums like Counterparts, Vapor Trails etc. Look for the Rik Emmett (Triumph) album Res9. You will enjoy this. It features guest musicians Alex Lifeson (Rush), James Labrie (Dream Theater) and a new Triumph song. It was on Amazon for $12.

    Need more videos from you! Love your content and approach! I have a few original LZ Albums and a Ludwig copy and I would say that unless you have a super sensitive and high end system that you would not hear the difference. I can honestly say that the 2014 reissues are excellent. I think people get too hung up in the “mojo” of albums that they hear what they want to hear as a result. I say the best sounding press is what sounds best to you. No reason in my mind to waste the dollars on overpriced OPs.

    Many original tapes are so fragile after all this time they are frightened to take them out of the box - hence digital copies made of the tapes which are used by engineers today. i found the 2014 remasters compared very well to the originals which is all you want, you can't expect them to turn into modern recordings like you can with photos, they are of their time.

    I like the 2014s, except for LZII where the 1977 US George Piros (SD 19127) has spoiled me. Don't have a Ludwig, those are snatched up by the hoarders and gougers.

    Too much to type but research how a master tape is made, stored, lifespan etc in relation to producing vinyl records and you will have a better understanding of why digital files are used.

  • @leon9021
    @leon9021 4 года назад +1

    It depends on the album. LZ IV is among the worst, and Classic is definitely better on I and III and V, but not hugely so. II is most preference based of them all.

    • @Rockoli
      @Rockoli  4 года назад +2

      Yeah, for whatever reason IV is a bit flat and arguably the worst of the 2014 remasters. Classic records versions are definitely better, even if only marginally.

  • @RocknRonni
    @RocknRonni 4 года назад +1

    Wouldn't it have been nice if Alantic would have taken the tapes and got Kevin Gray to remastered them and then pressed them over at quality records. And the Records were housed Nice shiny Stroughton covers and charged $29.99
    The junk Atlantic made needs to go out of print and somebody needs to do exactly what I just said and now we would have a phenomenal product

    • @Rockoli
      @Rockoli  4 года назад

      Yes! I’m not disagreeing with you at all, Ron! Atlantic could have and should have done better. The point I was attempting to make is that I think they are a good inexpensive placeholder until you can find (or afford) an upgrade copy. Can you imagine if Chad Kassem were given the master tapes?
