    As a Japanese I didn't expect that Japan would win against to such a strong team! After the first half, many people complained that Japanese team was not offense enough. But in the second half, changing the players and the formation worked well. Germany team is very strong so it’s unbelievable, but I am excited. The second half was a different story when Coach Moriyasu unleashed his young guns whose speed were lethal in counterattacks. I can wait for Japan's next game.

    I was actually surprised that Germany played relatively well for the first 60 minutes with all their sobering performances in the last months. The last 30 minutes were more of what we expected of our national team. Süle's bad decision making and Flick's changes were really frustrating. Everyone was confused that Gundogan was taken off.

    Japan going 3 at the back broke the German press. From the first moments of Tomiyasu's entry, Japan became able to string passes together, and their threat level inreased steadily. German players also ran out of stamina, and it was a death sentence once Doan equalized. I, as a Japan fan, hope that this 3 at the back approach will be a staple for the future.

    • @juanmadrid7655

    • @k-matsu
      @k-matsu Год назад +2

      Excellent analysis. But as the others on the thread have noted, its all dependent on what Germany were doing.
      I should point out that the halftime/second half changes in not only personnel but formation and tactics were NOT some improvised plan they drew up at halftime. Moriyasu has been carefully plotting a 16-man strategy for every single contest (which makes sense given how deep the Japan NT is these days). I think they were hoping that the hard press and tight formation would allow them to keep Germany scoreless for the first 45. Japan's approach to the entire World Cup was based on getting a draw here, then beating Costa Rica, and hoping that Spain would either be already qualified or also with a win and a draw meaning that they would be happy to rest players and settle for a scoreless dras.
      If Japan had been still 0-0 at half time, you would have seen Kubo and Maeda off for Minamino and Shibasaki/Morita. Japan would have gone to a three-DMF 4-5-1 and focused on long balls to Ito or Asano.
      As it was, Japan had to make a more attacking change [and I have no doubt that Moriyasu already had a scenario for being 0-1 at the break]. But these changes are part of Japan's basic strategy, which is to use second-half substitutions to alter the contest. By using pressing players up front like Maeda and Ito in the starting lineup, they try to wear out the defenders and midfielders with constant running. I think they WERE successful to some extent, but mainly because the German DMidfielders were rushing forward looking for goals. Ideally, the plan is to make it to half time either 0-0 or 1-1 (assuming maybe Maeda or Ito gets a breakaway). Then you bring on the likes of Mitoma, Minamino and Asano, who can run at the defenders, and take advantage of their tired legs, and you shift to a new formation and style of play.
      The problem was that Japan could not hold the ball up in midfield, when they had possession. For the entire first half Germany had almost constant control of the ball, because apart from one or two counterattacks, Japan's possession was all deep in their own end.On this point I think Kubo is a huge liability. He just cant hold the ball under pressure. Id give Soma a chance against Costa Rica, though in truth, Minamino might be the best choice for the Spain (and any subsequent) contests. You need to have wide midfielders who can carry the ball in midfield and not just get shoved off it.
      Anyway, the point is that Moriyasu's philosophy is to let the opponent develop a certain style and mindset, as well as (hopefully) use up a lot of energy, in the first half. Then Moriyasu makes his five changes, and try to win the game in the second half. That was the game plan from the start, and not some reaction to Germany's dominance in the first half (though obviously, that was the reason why Kubo was the first to leave). This is a basic part of Moriyasu's philosophy, so you can expect to see substitutes continue to play an important role in matches going forward.

Coming back from injury, fitness might not be where Flick wants to risk a full 90 minutes in order to keep him fresh for the future. Gündogan coming off was a mistake. He coached both Kimmich and Goretzka and knows their strengths and styles. Gotetzka loves moving up in the attack and arriving in the box late. They are 2 very different players. Japan are in great form, they generally play good football and have a goot football mentality. Germany have not been in good form and their squad isn't as strong as it has been in previous years. If you take away these biases the matchup was actually much closer than most people thought.

      *As a Japanese Gooner* I couldn't be more pleased for Arsenal signings Takuma Asano and Takehiro Tomiyasu, but Germany were the better team for practically the entire match. We were terrible at clearing the ball, you were unlucky to have blasted the woodwork en route to going oh-for-twenty-five attempts, and we were lucky that Niklas Süle played Asano onside in a totally unforced error. Huge win for サッカー日本代表 though.

    Simple story really. Germany dominated for a long time and had the chances to score at least 3 goals in the first half alone. To Japan's luck, Germany failed to convert those chances and only scored their penalty. Then Japan improved with their substitutions in the second half and Germany's substitutions after that made them qualitatively and tactically worse. From there everything fell apart. Flick probably should've just stuck with the starting 11.

    • @lucasmatsuoca
      @lucasmatsuoca Год назад +23

      I mean, i wouldn't say luck, if they couldn't score this is their problem, not a "lucky" factor. This solely means they need to improve efficiency/conversion of shots. There are may teams who face or have faced this problem, is not about luck.

    • @B2leave
      @B2leave Год назад +11

      @@lucasmatsuoca I feel like you might be overthinking the word lucky here as if it's meant as an insult towards Japan. The reason why I used it is because Germany clearly had the quality to score at least 3 goals by half time. The fact that they didn't was often down to marginal factors in the final moments, whether that's a final pass, a close offside, or the finish itself. On top of that, this failure to score additional goals when they easily could've been, effected decisions made by Germany later in the game. So when I say lucky, I'm talking about the margins that could easily have gone the other way in the first half. And that's really all luck is, a placeholder term for the unaccountable margins or error. The fact that Germany them decided to not stick to their clearly very good game, is on them of course.

      Yeah, it kind of feels like we're getting a classic case of pundits judging a game by the score instead of the actual chances created. Full disclosure: I didn't see the game, but here are the stats:
      65% possession vs 22% (13% contested)
      25 attempts vs 10
      9 on target vs 3
      73 final third entries vs 22
      Based on those numbers, Germany DOMINATED this game, but unluckily didn't convert their chances. And yes, luck does play a factor! On any given day, a shot from outside the box could go screaming into the top corner. On a different day, it ends up in row 50! Granted, those numbers don't show the quality of the chances created. This is where xG is a great metric, but nobody shows that (probably bc it's difficult and highly subjective to calculate).
      I certainly hope we don't see a similar results bias in the BEL-CAN analysis. CAN were BY FAR the better team, and honestly should have won that game 4-1. But, we didn't convert our chances, and BEL converted one of their very few opportunities and stole all 3 points. I better not see a Tifo video talking up BEL's tactical genius in a game where they were completely outclassed.

Also Havertz is not comfortable in a striker position , they should otherwise bring on Fullkrug in their starting line up, beacause he is a true No.9 who knows how to play the position or Sane could be the striker and bring Havertz to CAM ,
    Another thing is that I would recommend is to put Goretzka and Kimmich together , because every week at Bayern they play together , so of course they will have the chemistry between Bayern players especiall with Musiala and Gnabry on the wings
