Ok so why would Project Shellfire be a scammy plan to mess with Hiccup? Numero Uno: the scale of Viggo's injuries. The Hunter hideout was a mess, sure. The mess was made by humans, sure. But you cannot in any words convince me, that if Ryker snapped at Viggo, it would end in him being lightly dirted and thrown into a pit (what was it for anyway???) With messed up hair. Ryker didn't flinch when Tuffnut literally full-body charged him, he had a fair match with Gobber, and shot Smidvarg exclusively from the rest of the pack. You cannot convince me, that if the man that could wrestle a bear got angry, Viggo would have all his bones intact. And we've seen that injuries such as Astrid's shot leg or Barf and Belch's broken wing last consistently for the same episode at least, so if something severe happened to Viggo, he wouldn't be all fine just a few hours later
Numero Dos: ✨️Viggoportation✨️ This man either had a Changewing that was following him around while staying invisible, "just in case" awaiting orders, or he had a ship to get him out of Caldera Bay after he fled from the pit prison. But didn't he say Ryker turned the hunters against him? You can't tell me he can sail a ship all by himself... Which could mean he had a ship and a crew, and either those were his most loyal henchmen, or it was planned
Numero Tres: Ryker's odd behavior. If he truly got angry at his bro, why the fok would he attack the Defenders, Berserkers and the Edge? Knowing Ryker, he would beat the shit out of his brother, instead of leaving him in a pit and continuing the war as if nothing happened! Also: the alliance attempt? "Bring me Viggo and I'll give you the Dragon Eye, bdw I'm not the one using Shellfire, see?" Ok I see how it would work on one side, but on the other with Viggo's behavior it just seemed like they were trying to stir up more chaos

Other than how they attached the submarine to it (perhaps they spilled Dragon Root into the water and caused a biological catastrophe to get the Shellfire drugged?), the anchors keeping the submarine on the dragon were sturdy as heck. If the emergency Submaripper button really was meant to instantly kick the boat off Shellfire's back, would it hold on for damn five minutes or more? Project Shellfire wasn't meant for a close-distance fight. The whole armada of ships around it were the insurance that the Riders would never come close to the giant. It was never meant for fast or sudden movements, so why make it so hard to break? It's almost like Viggo didn't want it to break off in the end? As we know, the Shellfire fled once Submaripper went with the whirpool, so if the Ripper used the whirlpool just a little sooner and made its enemy flee, it would flee with the boat and the crew, into somewhere safe!

The clawmarks on the neck made me curious I saw a fic that when he was young a Monstrous Nightmare attacked him but it doesn't add up. The beastie has two hook like claws on the wing and he has three lines on his neck Looking at them closely, I was thinking It must've been some smaller dragon as the spacing between the claws wasn't that big either I think It was a Night Fury but since his tribe makes a living by hunting dragons, they managed to dispatch it before Viggo was killed and only left with that scar Just a lil theory I wanted to put out there :]
ive seen a few theories, fanon widely accepts monstrous nightmare but i also have a friend who proposed that the scars come from valka's wrist armour. there are other dragons that could be responsible too.
