  • Hope you guys enjoyed me taking a look at Windows 8 in 2024. I know almost nobody would ever go back and try to use this os but I thought it would make for a neat video.

    8.1 is my favorite version of Windows, it was much lighter than 10 and could pretty easily be made to work more or less the same as 7 if need be.
    It really was great on a tablet especially, the touch experience, gestures, and animations are somehow _still_ better than both 10 and 11
    It was also the seemingly the last time they had an actual QA team to fix bugs, 10.and 11 have so many inexplicable jitters and small bugs that just don't really happen to me on 7 and 8.

    To be honest, I am one of few people who actually enjoyed using Windows 8 in general regardless of whether it's RTM or 8.1. Mainly because it was in my experience it was an extremely stable system and I rarely ever encountered any BSODs or lock ups. Unlike with some of my past experiences with Windows 7 and XP, where the system would BSOD or lock up quite often out of no where and without any warning. There again I think that was mainly due to driver issues and wasn't really the fault of the OSes themselves. Other than my experience with Windows 8 being really good, I like the idea that Microsoft went for. Whilst it doesn't suit a desktop OS, it's really not even that hard to use once you get used to it.
    I actually had been using Windows 8 as main OS since 2013. Although I pretty much moved on to using Windows 10 as my main OS now, officially as of this year. Although in a few years, i'll eventually have to move onto Windows 11.

      Windows 8 proves that you can have all the cloud services (live tiles, windows store, onedrive) that newer operating systems do and still have it run well

    • @Joshwoakes
      @Joshwoakes Месяц назад

      @@KofolaDealer well any cloud service (e.g One Drive) could technically run on Windows 7 and maybe Windows Vista. However some cloud services are exclusive to Metro a.k.a UWP (e.g Microsoft Store) and will only work on Windows 8 or newer. As for live tiles, they were mainly for mobile versions of Windows and Windows 8 but they were kept in Windows 10.

    That's weird, Minecraft 1.20.4 installed perfectly for me just a few months ago. Ooh, another thing you could try is Blender. Windows 7 lost OFFICIAL-support and updates became 3rd party on git-hub. Windows 8 still fully supports modern Blender and no signs of cutting it off.

    microsoft is making the same mistake as windows 8 on windows 11, designing things to be touchscreen friendly & forcing that on desktop users. the amount of unnecessary padding and removal of anything compact is insanely annoying. they removed the option for a small taskbar (they also made the taskbar ~10px taller than win10), they bloated all the ui elements and gave them a billion percent more padding and rounding, spaced everything apart, generally everything is a waste of screen space. look how fucking massive the start menu is lol

    Nice video man. On a full screen Metro app with a mouse and keyboard, it felt really dumb clicking at the top of the window and dragging it all the way down to close an app. On a touchscreen device like the Surface Pro or Surface RT, it makes a lot more sense swiping down with your finger.
    I feel as if the Start Screen makes so much more sense on a tablet as well. Would be cool if there was a small comeback of Windows 8 on something like the ROG Ally or Steam Deck. I never liked the traditional Windows UI on a tablet lol

    Oh I can personally tell you what Windows 8 can do. A lot of things Windows 7 has completely left out: USB 3 drivers during installation, UEFI on 64 bit versions, NVME, Secure Boot, Turing Nvenc, and even supports more games... If Steam hadn't removed Windows 7&8 from support that is. That is unfortunate because I was wanting to play Doom Eternal on Windows 7 on my AMD APU. Oh well, Windows 10 will suffice for at least the testing portion before I switch over to Windows 8.1 with the Windows 7 B450 chipset.

It was pretty much a slightly more modern looking Windows 7 after that though. I ignored pretty much all the Metro (full screen) apps since they were pretty much all awful.

    If Steam is pushing the Linux route because people don't want to upgrade to a newer Windows then I have about had it with Valve and at this point would rather go back to Windows 7 or stay on Windows 10 because Windows 11 is starting to suck real bad with Microsoft deprecating the hell out of key features that make Windows useful. You can't even move the start menu at the top anymore after Windows 10 I might just switch to Linux Mint Cinnamon and strongly debating on it if Microsoft continues to deprecate useful software consider me a Linux user in the near future don't upgrade to Windows 11 I just used it and went straight back to Windows 10 I think Windows 10 will be the LAST WINDOWS I EVER USE and I am not joking all the useful shit in Windows 10 is gone on Windows 11 man what ever you guys do please don't upgrade I can't even pull the start menu to the top and hide it so I can run virtual machine making it a pain in the ass to use Windows 10 will be the last good Windows provided by Microsoft.
