In 1984, they leased school buses from several school districts since they were on Summer break. Maybe they can do that again. LAUSD alone operates about 1300 buses.

Transit doesn’t solve traffic. It helps people get to where they need to be. Congestion pricing solves traffic.

How does it not solve/reduce traffic? More people using it means less cars on the roads? Unfortunately, its not going to take just a transit system to solve this issue because our government built the city around the freeway system to fxck us, the future generations.

Gonna take more than an olympic game to change the car lifestyle our government brought us in the last 60 years? Our neighborhoods are so flat and people are so unwilling to walk.

As a non car driver, this will not even do a dent.
She said many people think LA, traffic n lack of parking space.
For past 30 years, to solve the problems, LA has wasted a lot money to build parking lots at each station because you need cars to use rails. If you don't, politicians such as Alex Padilla think screw you.
I emailed to a politicians who push so hard on gold line extension n asked how non car drivers could use rails, after 3 years, i have not gotten response.
US transit policy is hijacked by train lovers aka car drivers pretend to be environmentalist n cannot walk more than half mile.
That was how LA designed. Any transit improvement has nothing to do with non car drivers. In fact, many terrible bus but vital services have been cut to supplement you need cars to use rails. Train lovers actually celebrate that.
700x million out of 800x million goes to you need car rail with fabulous packing lots.
LA has been doing that for 30 years. Except the one in this video, most so called transit advocates believed this is a great idea because they drive n can afford uber.
    FINE.
dont brag about this is transit improvement.
    Don't say its for Olympics.
People coming from countries like Taiwan, China, Japan, S Korea, France, GB, Germany, etc willbe confused.
They will ve misled n think they can get around without cars. I am just talking about LA city, not even suburb or Disneyland.
    Republicans hate public transportation.
Democrat also hates public transportation, but Democrat pretend to like by building you need cars n uber to use rail

Do you actually live in LA? If you do, you know that cars will be part of the transit solution for several more decades. The equation that's being slowly adjusted is for Angelenos to use their cars less and less as LA Metro keeps expanding. We need about another 12 years before the system is comprehensive enough for people to begin to ditch their cars.
Of course, the main reason that cars will always be part of the transit equation is due to the size of LA and LA County, and the funds available for public transit infrastructure. LA is 500 square miles and LA County is 4,700 square miles and LA Metro is responsible for providing bus and rail transit to much of it. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Oh, and BTW, there is more TOD happening now too around many of the rail stations. And the stations that have parking today will be converted to TOD in the future once the LA Metro system is comprehensive enough.

@mrxman581 I have lived in LA for 40 years. I never drive. I work in rail control system for 2 years.
I have witnessed the you need cars rail system.
      The TOD is complete failure.
If you can afford TESLA, you can afford TOD apartments.
My ex coworker lived in Pasadena TOD. She told me she lived to take rails, bus to work, but the situation does not allow her.
A person was willing to take metrolink , rails, bus to long Beach. Then he found out he it was faster to walk 5 miles than taking bus, he drove.
A company was interested interview me. It had project in Pasadena. No one knew about the Gold line. What difference does it make? The local bus has been cut as part of improvement. It's funny, people live or work in Pasadena, WLA, universal studio n even DTLA near Union Station don't botherto check transit because you know what, you need to use rails.
LA is big. So are Tokyo n New York. The reason for the car is people cannot give up cars.
Parking n driving are difficult in WLA. People insist having free parking space to use rails in WLA.
Past 3 decades, LA under selfish train lovers have destroyed public transportation to encourage more driving by design you need car rail.
      Do you live in LA?
      No you don't.
If you do, on behalf of oil industry, are industry, car insurance, car mechanic, thank you and train lovers help to make LA less walkable.

Saw a video explaining the extension of rail lines in suburban helsinki. Their method was good, in which they cut inconvenient suburban bus routes and use those extra funding to create frequent bus routes that move people from suburbs to the main stations. Some of our problems is our love for suburbs.

    • @commentorsilensor3734
      @commentorsilensor3734 6 дней назад

@vitasoy1437 your suggestion sounds good except we already have bus routes move people from suburbs to bus hubs in LA. The inconvenient bus routes have been cut to bones. I live in suburbs. It's faster to walk 5 to 7 miles. I live near bus stops. There are couple major streets. If it weren't for restaurant, warehouse workers, those inconvenient bus routes would have cut further. Bus riders live in our area don't complain because nothing changes. They just find places near Plazas rather than deal inconvenient bus routes. Oh, there is a train station 2 miles from my house, but the bus near my house cannot reach that place.
Basically in LA, public transportation improvement mean rail, freeway, and parking lots. The improvement of bus services to rail stations in urban is not part of solution.
Yes, suburb is the problem, but love of car contributes more.
That's the reason most rail stations have big parking lots

@@commentorsilensor3734 Yup totally impossible to get to any other suburbs. I sometimes take the bus just for "fun" when I am free even though it's 3x longer than driving. Just curious why won't bus services to rail stations not work?
I think for LA, its more than just inconvenience that contributes to the car culture, its the perception of safety as well. They all kind of go hand in hand to create the mess we have today. American dream / nice houses / my own car = sucess and high standard of living. When everyone chases for that dream, it breaks the freeway system. I really hate to be stuck in the traffic for 1-2 hours each way just for work. Really not sure what the government is / will do to change it. Hope the olympics will bring some good changes. We do still a lot of violence reported on the news to deter potential riders from using it, and the government isn't doing something that is effective.
