Great video. I ran this train as an engineer for years. Never was tired of looking at the coast whether it was a sunny day, foggy day or at night.
Very cool job!
You have any idea how much is the ticket cost ? And how’s that work like. First. 2nd. Or third. Class or all tickets are the same. Prices ? Thank you for your help. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@jimg6476 thank you 🙏🏽
It was once said that if you really and truly enjoy doing your job, is it still considered "work"?
I too, ran trains for years, and never got tired of it 🥳
I highly recommend going in the winter. Seeing shiny, fluffy snow as you pass through Oregon is gorgeous. On my trip, I was able to wake up at 5am to see the sunrise at Mt. Shasta. 10 out of 10 trip.
Thank you for this, can’t forget the green hills after winter showers!
When did u go
Which part is scary? I heard you are high in the mountains. And it's a straight drop lol. Is that true?
What was the price?
Too much unless you're wealthy🙃
I did this trip about 12 years ago. Visiting from Australia and staying with friends in Ridgecrest CA. I travelled from LA through to Vancouver Canada with many stops along the way, such an amazing experience and had a sleeper berth which made the trip more comfortable. As a sole traveler, the conductor would seat me with different people for meals and ended up meeting so many nice people, they loved the Aussie accent - lol😁. Ended up hugging everyone at the end of the trip. I would definitely do it again.👍👍
It’s always wild to hear Ridgecrest, CA. Such a small place. Did a lot of my growing up there
My sister worked at Ridgecrest in late 80s.
My two sons were thrilled to be able to visit their aunt. But summer can get really hot and apartment complex did not have pool. Still talk about the experience.
As a fellow Aussie this is on my bucket list too. I have relies in Canada I visit and do Canada but haven't actually done the US yet (am reluctant to do solo in the current social climate)
I rode the Coastal Starlight a few years ago from Seattle to LA. I also had a sleeper room. I loved the journey. The train is your vacation, not just for transportation. ❤
Hey where can you book that trip? I've been struggling to do so and I'm looking to leave from Seattle to la.

Without Jeb experiencing cross country travel on the rail, I never would have considered travel in this manner in the US. As an Australian, I really want to try these journeys and experience the amazing landscapes of the US in this relaxed manner. Thank you Jeb for the videos and keep informing and entertaining us with your travels!
just a heads up, theyre sorta pricey if you get a room... the bedroom they stayed in for this trip was probably between $1000 to $2000 for the trip
@@mthotdog it could have been down to about $800 or so if he booked a few months in advance
Ive only done north Geelong to Aderlade ( the overland ) and xpt Melbourne to Sydney …. The Ghan and great southern is expensive compaired the 2 I’ve done ps Jebs a legend
Seeing places by train is such a great experience
as a felo Australian indian pacific is amzing
The "is this room big enough" segment is a cute change of pace, but it's actually also really useful to get a functional idea of the space.
Nope
I was born and raised on the central coast in calif, I love our fields and mountains to breathtaking sunsets over the pacific. I love going for drives towards the inland area, looking at farmland. I’m very fortunate to live in such a beautiful area. ❤
I'm from the central coast in California too. Amazing weather and excellent view of the beach. Taking the 1 up the coast to Big Sur was amazing.
I've lived in Calif my entire life, southern, central, and northern, and the central coast is by far my favorite place to live. Being less than an hour from Big Sur and Point Lobos is the best!
You are an adorably cute couple, down to earth, like normal everyday people. Continue making your travel videos together for all of us to enjoy!❤
Greetings Jeb. My Father (RIP) was a Sleeping Car Porter and from the ages of 7-14 the Coast Starlight was Dad's regular route. During that time, it ran from Oakland's old 16th Street Station to Portland. I was fortunate to be able to ride with my Dad at least twice a year; once or twice in the summer and also during Christmas break. I enjoyed the winter trips because we never had any snow in the Bay Area and their was plenty to see in the Cascades during our winter train rides. Thank you for bringing back a lot of fond memories. I still remember every nuance of that route - and the train ride between L.A. and Oakland too; as we traveled that route several times on our way to catch the Sunset Limited in L.A. to visit family in New Orleans. BTW, Klamath Falls is pronounced like the shellfish - as in "Clam"-math Falls. Thanks again Jeb. You brought me tears of joy for the memories of the time I shared with Dad on that route. 🤗🤗
@repentandbelieveinJesusChrist9🤣
I once in 2005 did that route from Oakland to L.A to El Paso Tx. It is a beautiful trip I’ll never forget
@Repent and believe in Jesus Christ Pert Em Rhu~~!!
Your dad worked as a porter from age 7 - 14? Impressive. Best I could do was a paper route.

I'm a Pacific Northwest trucker and I happened upon this video while catching a break in Chemult OR. I honestly had no idea Amtrak ran through here!
I did this trip solo from OC to Portland about 10 years ago, it was a great experiece. spectacular views & met some great people. can't beat traveling by train.
I took Amtrak train twice before from Los Angeles to Chicago. It was such experience & fun too! You get to see the country. Loved it!
I’m so happy Suzanne has been joining the videos lately, both of your energies work so well together. Keep up the great work you two! :)
I think Jeb, Suzanne, and this channel have done more to increase Amtrak ridership than anything else in recent memory. Trains are cool again! Full observation car? Victim of your own success! Thanks for the great content you two.
I hate this car, not as comfortable as I was in China
Come to think of it, I never had a problem finding a seat in the dome car until after Jeb's videos went viral. Also I could easily book first class accomodations a few days and no more than a week before my trip. Lately, I've had to book at least three weeks in advance just to have a decent chance of getting a sleeperette.
Jeb is a dope dude! You should check out Downey Live he is also awesome
@@user-dq7ci6bv2j oh i agree. Japan and China are definitely the masters of rail and maglev super train technology. I admire your country who are the leaders when it comes to theses modern marvels.
Yeah i like trains to. Especially the modern marvels of Japan and China. You like trains? Wanna talk trains? Highspeed bullet trains and maglev super train technology, the new American dream.
I've done that trip many times and it's always wonderful. Friends ask me why I just don't fly. What they'll never understand is the the journey is the destination.
How much is it?
@@benluna-vasquez3718 It depends on starting and end points, as well as couch, business, or First Class. The starting price is $99 couch, but could go to over $600 for first class.
@@benluna-vasquez3718 looking up fares for the room they have here, a weekend in September, from LAX to Seattle, and it’s showing as $1,776. There is a roomette with no shower (shared showers) for $846. A weekday in October is showing the room as $1,402 and the roomette as $846.

I love so much that Suzanne is taking such a leading role in your videos these days... you two complement each other so well, and I just love how nice and normal she comes across... so refreshing in a world dominated by influencers and celebrities. You rock Suzanne!
Yes, I agree a 100%. So pretty without makeup. She reminds me of Ashley Judd without makeup!

LAX based train attendant who discovered your channel as an av geek. Thank you for your including train travel & your appreciation for Amtrak! I always wash my hands after doing push-ups on the dining car aisle, lol. East coast long haul trains need full service dining cars. When I work CS trips that stretch between Klamath Falls & Eugene gets me every time, particularly fall & winter. Great to see Suzanne, you two are a comedic duo.
A post-push-up hand wash is key. Thanks for watching and hope to see you onboard!!
@@GreenerGrass how much was the ticket sir?
Jeb and Suzanne, I think this is one of your best videos. I felt like I was right there with you. The Coast Starlight is one of my dream trips. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Road Amtrak from Union station to Escondido California when I bought my motorcycle. Still one of my favorite journey’s. I remember getting into the rail zone, it was my first train ride as an adult, and now I wish I could travel by train only. That day was special because I got to watch the ocean, have internet, relax and take it all in and then I got to ride the coast back up in my Motorcyle. A favorite memory for sure.
Just booked this trip for me and my husband to celebrate my birthday in 2023. I never would have known about this route if it wasn't for you Jeb. Love the videos. Keep them coming!
Happy (early) birthday!
Hi I’m havin*a tough time finding ticket prices. What did you pay for your trip for two? If I may ask.
@@upchuck9021 Have you checked the Amtrak website? I think you'll find prices there.
Looks awesome. I'm 50 years old and had never been on a real train before. But thanks in part to your videos, I took the Zephyr over the summer and am taking the Coast Starlight in December. Hopefully I'll see snow.
You will definitely see snow! Enjoy!
I took this train a few years back and even though I only took it as far as San Jose, it was a great trip. Sure, flying is quicker, but there's something to be said for being able to sit back and relax as the scenery rolls by
100%. Just did a trip to the Anaheim area doing a flight and public transit on the way down and Amtrak on the way back. I felt way more refreshed and chill on the train back despite taking longer. I only got a touch restless when night fell with no more cool scenery to see and the "are we there yet of the last 1h30" starts to happen.
My brother took Coast Starlight from SLO to San Jose
Long long long time California resident. It is so beautiful to experience the views we often take for granted with you. It really is a special place.
Thanks for watching! This rail journey highlights some of the best views in California!!
@@GreenerGrass in 🇺🇸 you don't have electrificated rail ??
@@davorlekenik9563 Mostly in municipalities - light rail and the like as opposed to long distance.
I live in San Luis Obispo and we've taken the train to Santa Barbara and San Diego with our children. Those routes were fun but familiar scenery for us as we commute alongside the tracks. This video has convinced me to take the train to Seattle as a new experience and cheap/relaxing way to spend a couple days.
If you’re lucky enough to have someone you truly love alongside of you in your travels then you are blessed whether it’s on Amtrak (& I really enjoy Amtrak and trains) or any other place because you get to share your life with someone you truly love!
If you want coastal views, try the Pacific Surfliner down to San Diego. Service is currently reduced due to track work, but once it ramps back up again, it's right next to the beach.
The Pacific Surfliner runs over the same track that they took from LA to San Luis Obispo, just missed the part from LA to San Diego.
Yep pretty much the best part of the route anyways Surfliner from SD to SLO but make sure your train does the whole trip, quite a lot uses bus service from Santa barbara to SLO and not the full train.
I did the LA to SD run this year. Truly amazing!!
Dude, I hope you cherish Sam. She is a treasure. Bright, funny and articulate plus her sly grin is warm and beautiful. You're not too bad yourself brother. Cheers to you both.
This was such a treat. I am from San Luis Obispo county but living internationally and road the surfliner back and forth between San Diego to visit my family and SLO. I recognized where all your shots were taken on that leg of the trip, it was such a nostalgic flashback. I may try this train next time
Traveling buddy?😊
As a resident of Paso Robles, i’m glad you featured the amazing Cuesta Pass! I’m glad you enjoyed your time in San Luis Obispo! Come back soon, fly into SBP, it has an absolutely beautiful terminal that I know you’ll love! So sad I missed the chance to see you pass through on the train :(
Suzanne really brings an extra level of awesome to the videos
We took this train from LA to Oakland last year to spend New Years with my brother & wife. It definitely beats sitting in traffic driving during holiday times. I have been very fortunate to enjoy driving along the California coast but have a new appreciation of it seeing it through your eyes. Taking AmTrak from LA to Chicago thru the Rockies is on my bucket list and hope to do it soon. Thanks for your wonderful videos!
I've been on the coast Starlight a couple of times starting from my home in San Diego; the furthest North I've ever been however was Sacramento. I loved every moment. I booked a roomette both times since I was traveling as a single girl, and both of my trips were so very memorable. Both were pre-covid, so I got the full Coast Starlight experience. I wish the two of you many more wonderful memories on America's railways!
Fab. A girlfriend and myself did the reverse trip a few years ago. We had a bunk room, not good for mature ladies, but so much fun. Staff, food and everything about our train trip, was the absolute highlight of our USA trip. Would do it again in a heartbeat. More train travel trips please.
Love Jeb's excitement... So genuine.. The biggest smile.. Warms my heart... Suzanne, you're cool as well..❤
Very much enjoying seeing this and your other train videos. Seeing these has re-sparked my love for train travel. In my 70s now, I cannot go sightseeing as easily as I once could for hiking, camping, attractions, etc. Trains offer a great option to ride and see views sitting down or even while laying down. All while extending the day's and night's adventures. Well now, you got me thinking a train VACAY is a great option!
Both my wife and I got great sleep on the Coast Starlight. Great food, great scenery, great service - 10/10 highly recommend.
I took the coast starlight back in 2016 from Santa Barbara to Davis, CA. Certainly saw some beautiful coastline and found it to be way better than taking a greyhound.
Oregon resident here, been to Crater lake a couple times now and it is just jaw dropping, the immense scale of it is incredible and it takes you a step back.. It's definitely a go to place, I love Oregon
I agree! That said, for people who are scared of heights, it may be better to travel the ring road around the lake clockwise, that way, you're on the inside lane of the road.
I've done most of this trip several times because I live on the line in Oregon. It's a beautiful trip with gorgeous sunsets.
I made that trip from the SF Bay Area to LA on the Coast Starlight in the spring when all the hills are green in California. I have great memories of the section of the central coast around San Luis Obispo. Stunning scenery.

Our one and only train trip was on this route from Portland to LA and back again. This is a stunning trip and it makes me want so much to do it again.
LOVE all your rail trips. I am a lifelong train travel lover, starting when I was three. My dad gave me a toy train set when I was about five. He unfortunately would never know how much I loved that little set with its tracks, the cars, the caboose, and the engine and how I’ve adored real trains the rest of my life.
I don't know how this came across my feed but I'm glad it did 😊. Thank you for taking us on this adventure. You guys are great this makes me wanna book a trip to experience this type of adventure! Thank you! 😁 🙌
Jeb, being both an airline employee of 33 years and train enthusiast I have really come to enjoy watching your videos more than ever before. I’m so glad you’ve been doing some Amtrak videos. I actually find myself agreeing with a lot of your comments regarding rail travel. Thank you for putting out such great videos. Also I thought Suzanne’s comment about the prunes and restroom in the room to be hilarious.
Lived in Oregon for 39 years, from Cali to K Falls is the Siskiyou range, the Cascades are further north. I rode Amtrak from Salem to Seattlemultiple times a year from ‘93 to 2011. And, loved every trip.
I could to the Coast Starlight over and over. ❤
I still remember my free rides from San Diego to San Juan Capistrano some 30 something years ago,or from Capistrano to Santa Ana ,we used to jump on trains, what memories
I've watched all your Amtrak vids. Must say this route is the best so far.
God Bless from South Africa
I love that you are very honest about your experience even if there is something that may not be the best, but you still humble by the overall experience. You both are adorable. Continue great work. You are 1 of the main reason I have decided to begin traveling by train. Thanks
I was very happy to come across this video I live in southern California my Son just moved to Portland Oregon where he's never been before, we haven't had a chance to visit yet, I appreciated seeing the Beautiful Scenery definetly a trip we hope to take Thank you So Much for posting😊
Glad you proved to the universe that the west coast is the best coast! From Seattle area here!!!
Great video with one thing missing. The Jeb Score! I even watched the last part again thinking that I missed. I could never afford travel by rail which is why I am so grateful for being able to drive semi over the road for 14 years. I got to see a lot of this country through the windshield of my truck. While not as relaxing as chilling on a train, it is far better than never seeing it at all. I truly love your videos and your great attitude. Keep it up. 😎
I did this exact trip in 2010. One of the best experiences in my life!
Jeb and Suzanne, Wow another AWESOME video! These new Amtrack videos let people see and share places that we don't think about often. I remember that as a child, my grandmother said how beautiful Oregon is. ( in the days before video in the 1950s she rode Trailways to each state except Alaska) She would love your videos as much as I do. THANK YOU.
Thank you for sharing this incredible journey with us. It looks so fun and is now on my bucket list because of your amazing video!!
I've been on that line hundreds of times, literally. SLO local here! Let me now if you over come through here again, we have a charming little airport too. It's a shame you missed the Parlor Car days where sleeper class had an extra private car. The Pacific Surfliner mirrors the Coast Starlight route between LA and San Luis Obispo but it also travels southward to San Diego. You have to see the LA scenery with the right kind of eyes. Honestly, some of the really good graffiti in the spillways can be like a moving art gallery to me. Also, LA is a much more industrial city than it gets credit for being. It's definitely "ugly" but in that ugliness I can find it to be interesting and beautiful in its own way. No matter which direction you go, north or south, you'll soon be greeted by friendly and rustic coastlines so it's a very cool contrast. Cheers!
I had the pleasure of taking one trip when the Parlor Car was available to sleeper passengers. The was an optional wine and cheese tasting for a small fee. As we sipped wine and admired views, I felt like I was traveling during the golden age of railroading.
@@mariegarside8830 It's a shame they had to retire those cars, they were unique amongst all the Amtrak lines and gave sleeper passengers an exclusive place to go outside of their rooms. I hope they come back.
@@wizardmix The last I read about the Parlor Car it was scrapped. Sad we lost a piece of history.
The Coast Starlight is an excellent route to travel. Suzanne and Jeb this is probably your best rail video to date. Really enjoyed your interactions on this video. Thanks so much for sharing it.
Ive done this a few times. This is great
I love seeing the “Travel Time” getting wrist time. Another relaxing and fun train ride with you both.
The Coast Starlight is a really fun train!
I would love to take this train trip! I'm newly retired & live in San Diego. I think I would go one way and then fly home. Thanks for taking us along! I saw many familiar sites as I'm originally from Northern California and was in Central California for a decade.
Love riding the Coast Starlight and the other western long-distance trains. The only negative is that there is no longer the Pacific Parlour car which was awesome and exclusively for sleeping car passengers.
I've taken this route multiple times, most recently this last June. It really is a lovely trip, and isn't too bad even in coach!
I took the Coast Starlight around seven years ago. This brought back some great memories. I especially liked passing through Vendenburg AFB along the cost. The highway goes around the base but the train went through it. I also had access to the Pacific Parlor car on my trip and did wine tasting in it while traveling. I really loved that car. It was reserved for sleepinng car passengers only unlikie the observation car. I also saw snow when we entered Oregon due to the time of year I traveled. Just a great trip and memories.
Hi Jeb and Suzanne.
It's great to see another trip together. Suzanne you are getting more and more relaxed as each video comes along.
Loved the cabin tour showing all the different moves a couple could do in it.
Food looks great, too.
I’m envious of your guys’ travels together. It’s a beautiful thing. Wish I had that.
i am a train conductor and this is really exciting to see! thank you very much for making this:)
an incredible video as always!!
agree that the scenery isn't always 100% magnificent, but i think it's also a unique and important part of taking a journey on amtrak. those are the parts of our country's landscape, outside of mountains and valleys and all the pretty things, that also tell a story. beautiful and interesting stories in their own way. trying to plan an 'all across the country without planes' trip for sometime later in 2023 and i'm definitely adding this one to my list!
Hi,
From the East Coast but lived in the West for 25 years before moving back. Traveled to Crater Lake twice. Camped once and once a day trip. Definitely worth a trip. If you get a chance, stay in the restored lodge there. The history and geology are spectacular and the blue of the water is nothing you have ever seen. Great hiking. Make sure to hike down to the water and take the boat tour on the lake as well.
I’m sold.. I will definitely my next trip to the states try a train…
Took the Coast Starlight years ago when my son was a child to visit family. Watching your videos makes me want to do it again.
Crater lake is stunning. I would definitely recommend visiting, along with the infinite beautiful sites that Oregon has to offer :)
I really enjoy Jebs train reports and look forward to him travelling again. Keep up the good work Jeb.
I lived in Oregon most of my life. Eugene then Albany which you both mentioned. A friend and I many years ago took a train up to Seattle. The train station in Seattle is beautiful. I love going down to the pier.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I recently had a dream that my husband and I went on our first train/sleeper ride and enjoyed scenery like what you've shown! You two are amazing! Love your smiles and energy! Glad I found your channel :)
Quite an enjoyable vicarious journey with you Jeb, thanks. (Klamath Falls is as in clam'ith, vice clay'mith)
Jeb probably never saw the movie Double Indemnity with Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. He's young.
You two are so lovely together
I just got married in October of this year (2022). We took this same route up to San Luis Obispo for our honeymoon. The train ride was so amazing. We enjoyed the train ride almost as much as our actual trip up North! Great Video.
Welcome to the Rail Zone, a world in which I exist 24/7/365. My husband and I made this trip in 1998 - what a way to travel! Amtrak service has always been superb and personal.
I’m new to this channel and I love it. Lovely couple, awesome trips and I do appreciate how much effort goes in to making the videos but also keeping other people out of view as much as possible. Can’t wait to see many more videos!
I took this train from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara & it was wonderful! I really enjoyed it too
I went to Crater Lake in 2016. It was amazing. It is very deep and the water is a color blue that you don't see anywhere else.
You guys are the best. This trip looks so relaxing. Been watching for a couple of years and I always loves your Amtrak videos.
Always love these videos even if they aren’t on a plane. Thanks for sharing these epic train journeys with us!
Love your videos, Jeb & Suzanne. I'm not sure how many more significant Amtrak routes you have yet to complete, as train videos in my opinion have equalled, if not exceeded plane videos in the quality of production, visuals and commentary. I didn't think I'd say that as it was plane videos that first drew me to your channel. Keep up the great work as always!
My family and I visited Crater Lake back in 1966, after living 6 months in Seattle so my dad could work on the brand new 747 concept jet. They had invited engineers from all over, so we DROVE out there by car from Long Island, NY. Crater Lake was awe-inspiring and my biggest recollection was how cobalt-blue the water looked.

I rode the old passenger trains as a kid in the 60s with my grandmother. I was hooked for life.
What a beautifully done vlog! I live outside Canby, OR and hear that and the sister-ship going through Hubbard, Aurora, Canby and then to Oregon City. So cool to come across this tonight! I'm stopped for a train...and its one of the Amtraks going through and I always think I should book a train trip!
Another brilliant video. Lively commentary, descriptions of places and breakfast, lunch and dinner. ❤
Ok. I’m going to put this trip on my 2023 list. The views are spectacular. Ppl talk mess about Cali, but I LOOOOVE it here.
Hi Jeb, I am absolutely loving these train videos. As much as I love planes, I am a huge train fan and would love to see mote
Great presentation. My wife and I would really like to do a trip like this. However, she has some physical mobility limitations. So we get to enjoy these trips by watching your well done videos. Thank you very much!
The Handicap room has ample room even for wheelchair, and meal service. ( retired Amtrak)
There is lower level seating and near restrooms.
Are used to live in Seattle growing up and my mom eventually move back down to Carlsbad California. So whenever I had the chance to go visit, I would always take this train ride instead of flying because I love how many tunnels there were and how much of a beautiful view it was... I would always jump at the cthance! I would always sit in the caboose at the back window while going through all of the tunnels so that way I can take a picture with my black and white throwaway cameras, just to get the most beautiful shots ever!!
The train, the staff, the passengers..amazing
This seems like such an amazing time for you guys. I always love when you post.
Loved your video! I'm from the LA area and went to school in San Luis Obispo yet never rode the train there! Always loved the drive between home and school but now your video has inspired me to put making the trip by train on my bucket list!
Rode the Amtrak a few times from Los Angeles to Klamath Falls and back. Was on the Coast Starlight and also the San Joaquins (through Central CA). It was a good experience! I enjoyed chatting with the people I met on the train.
I did this journey the other way round and stopped in San Francisco for a week. I did it in 1994 and still remember it vividly. I'm british so the envy of my friends. It was amazing.
WELCOME TO WASHINGTON STATE!!! You guys were about 5 hours from where I live!!!! Great blog!!!
Flew down to Anaheim from Oakland to take in a couple of Yankee games with my son this summer. 16:37 Took the Coast Starlight back and was a great 13 hours. I was a little concerned , as I was on my own , to be in a communal dining situation but it was actually a wonderful time as you quickly get into a conversation on where you are from and where you are going, and why.
