Scott and Ian, I learned how to play bass 6 or 7 years ago , and seeing you guys play bass together made me want to pick my bass back up after a year hiatus, because of life things. I can tell you guys both love music and the feel of how bass fits into music. Keep it up guys. And thank u so much.
Been t playing the chilli peppers version for 20 years + It’s finally good to know what I’ve been doing all these years later. This channel has change my bass life. Thanks Scott and Ian ❤
I just joined the SBL crew and bought my first bass yesterday. I'm a drummer by trade and learned guitar last year because I wanted to write songs and have more input when playing in bands. Guitar is fun but when I picked up a bass last week it felt so good! Probably because I'm a drummer and I love the pocket. I'm pretty obsessed with this instrument. Thanks SBL!
It's hard for me to learn slap because I don't really like any music with slap. It's cool and funky and impressive and all, but I never find myself listening to any songs with slap. Even Primus is something I gotta be in the mood for.
Please do an episode about Julian Crampton. The bass player of Incognito. His playing on the song Jacob's ladder is epic. Love your work. Thans you very much.
Yeah nice..ye should do a video shoot out on the bass amp pro rigs Ampeg verus Fender verus Messa.. or something along those lines Probably would only be for gear heads.. but I'd watch it
I was working on Running in the family by Mark King and I'm having trouble slapping with my fretting hand without producing notes ie just dead fret slap kind of thing. Are you muting with the right hand or something? Or is it just getting the right amount of pressure on the fret board to make a dead thump?
Hey my bass brothers I don't mean to get off the subject but please let me know how do you feel about bassists James genus with hebbie handcock live at the java jazz festival 2012 trimmed, peace and thanks for keeping me encouraged.
Because the open-string note is almost just a passing note, it tends to still fit (or your hearing isn't getting time to process the pitch) -especially at higher tempos. It's almost magical. Try it.
@Funky Monk I definitely have enough pushing me out of my comfort zone for now, as a side man playing multiple instruments in multiple groups needing to learn lots of new music all the time. If I ever get that comfortable maybe I'll try weird alternate tunings 😂
He has a neuro problem which cause him shaking fingers, and wearing a gloves which make the shaking disapear, it's nothing about playing confy things.. He made a video couple of years back about it 👍
I can't slap. :( No matter how hard i try, it just comes off sounding like the plain ol' thump sound i with my fingers. I can pull off a snap. But my slap is a flop!
Just 'slap' at least three fingers on your fretting hand across all the strings to create a 'thump' as a muted beat. Be careful not to accidentally slap down any individual strings and accidentally create an unwanted note (I sometimes catch the G) or trigger a harmonic.

The second bass break in Suicidal Tendencies's Send Me Your Money uses this technique! So good, great lesson dudes!

Ian- Love your hat! Stay Montanan!
Is this just a short or is there a longer video with it?

Could you do a tutorial on "Emir Deodato, The Crossing"?

I doubt seriously that was new to Scott!

Haven't watched that specific clip but James Genus is an absolute master!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥!
What if you're playing in a key that the open strings don't work in?
Because the open-string note is almost just a passing note, it tends to still fit (or your hearing isn't getting time to process the pitch) -especially at higher tempos. It's almost magical. Try it.
@Funky Monk 😂
@Funky Monk and move the location of all the notes? That's not for me.

Bassist here, what is that glove for?

Why the glove?
It’s colder on that side of the room

Can we sort out Ian getting a UK resident visa? 🙂
YES! This needs to happen 🤣
@@devinebass come to live here in Paris !
Can I have your bass😁😅
You look the same but the Brit has the Yank name and the Yank has the brit name - weird parallel universe.
I can't slap. :( No matter how hard i try, it just comes off sounding like the plain ol' thump sound i with my fingers. I can pull off a snap. But my slap is a flop!
Except there's no "open, hammer, pluck" on Higher Ground.
Don't understand fret slap. It does not sound like a hammer on. Not sure what you are doing. Please go more in detail about that.
Just 'slap' at least three fingers on your fretting hand across all the strings to create a 'thump' as a muted beat. Be careful not to accidentally slap down any individual strings and accidentally create an unwanted note (I sometimes catch the G) or trigger a harmonic.
Stop slapping, stop slapping, for the love of God, everyone stop slapping
Scott is doing better at talking less. still too much though. Feed the meat and less of us will click away!
Thankyou for the feedback dude!
