I play guitar. I bought a bass to mess around with. Didnt realize how different this instrument is compared to guitar. Its so "powerful"
I learned a lot in the 2 videos I watched of you so far.
Thumbs up sir.
I was learning guitar and switched to bass. Bass is different in a good way. The community of bass players sharing knowledge and skills are outstanding. Welcome to the community.
I also came from a lifetime of guitar. Owned a bass exactly two weeks. Want to incorporate bass into my looper [still learning to use that!]
Thank you for sharing! You are not only an exceptional artist, you are a Master educator. I am grateful
I've finally started getting the hang of this technique now after watching your video. Thank you so much!
I've watched a million different videos and lessons on how to slap the bass and this one was honestly the best! Thanks bro!
The thumb slap as described here becomes SO MUCH MORE VERSATILE if you play it like Daric Bennett. Excellent tutorial, as always. Keep 'em coming
You are a great teacher! I’ve been playing bass for 50 years but because of a cyst in my right thumb I never learned slap pop technique. I finally had the cyst removed and now in my senior years I am working on double thumbing, pop and slap technique. I know Victor and I am a big fan but I think you’re touch beats Victor.. although he’s a god so I can’t take anything away from him. But I really appreciate your touch and instruction. I’d love to meet you sometime. If you’re ever in Nashville please look me up. You have inspired me! Thanks
This is downloading directly into my brain! Priceless! Never heard it described this way. I just leveled up!!!
Learing everyday from Mr Daric is a great help in my playing. Im a metal bassist ☺️ but like to slap like black bassist does.
Thank you for the honesty.
Years and years to learn this is really good to know up front.
I just got my first bass at age 60 after making great progress the last 3 years learning guitar flat picking, fingerpicking and slide.
Bass is way freaking different,
Thanks for you lessons, honesty and help.
Thank you for this! I played as you played and I feel like I'm really getting the hang of it now!
When you said it takes years my imagination and dreams of slapping in a month just crashed before my eyes🤣😂😂😂
I would say its more about understanding what you doing and how you will prefer to play slap. Not just about skills.
Well you made this comment 2 years ago ... maybe this the the month ? :-)
Awesome Deric you explained everything clear man thanks!
Always clear and right thanks Daric.
Thank you teacher!!!
Thank you, Deric.
Awesome sir. Thank you so much.
A great lesson indeed..thanks sir..
the over technique breaks the curve of the wrist which is constrictive. the under is more ergonomic. thx for the lessons.
Very nice. You are a very good teacher. Thank you!
Awesome!
You are A solid bassist and a good teacher bro...
Vraiment respect à vous 🙏🙏
Thank you for the class Daric!

That is a clean 🧼 bass.
Gracias. Mucho texto
Waaaaw, félicitations prof!
I like thumpin with four fingers using two fingers on d and g then strumming while thumping then strum down
Your so gooddddddddd
Doesn't your bass have to be setup and also does the bass string gauge play a factor?
Question, will show me/us the bass part to Larry Grahams But it’s alright?
Nice Thumping Daric!!! 👍
Boss.
Daric, great video. It looks like you are actually slapping down through the string to rest on the string below. Is that correct?
Could you make a video playing Mr. nigga from Mos Def? It just one of the best grooves ever
SoO... Does the left thumb and middle/index fingers have a layers of calluses??🤔
Bass face gets me every time lmao I can tell you feel it
I'm still getting better, so I haven't developed a face yet
Do you need low action to get a better slap sound? Everyone looks so natural and light but I feel I have to beat my bass and thumb. What gauge string do you use?
Thanks, Daric! Btw, what combo do you use on this video?
which brand guitar this please
I was trying to learn slapping with the "over" technique and hat big trouble alternating with plucking the high strings, because the thumb has to "bounce" off immediately, otherwise the string is muted.... and then you have to move the thumb back to the string afterwards.
I hope this will be easier with the "under" technique, as it looks more like you slap "through" the string, creating resonance with only one movement. Is this correct?
Mi pana, necesitamos más ejercicios. No habrá lesion oral
Daric, do you give private online classes?
Uhhhhh😂 so cool 😄🫵🏻🫵🏻🎸🎸
Hello Sir @Darrick
Please in terms of Strings....is it adviceable to achieve a good slap tone with a nickel alloy wound set of strings?
I don't know about Nickel alloys, but Nickel wound bass guitar strings are pretty good for slap bass. You might wanna checkout Daddario or Ernie Ball as a starting point.
@@jeremiahdaniel6339 thanks a lot Sir
@@2stringsbaba You're welcome!!!!
Slappadabass isn't just a thing to do, it's like a whole technique for bass. This is what I look like when I slappadabass man.
Based on my experience, your hand/thumb position while slapping is largely dictated by how high or low you sling your bass. A player like Flea uses a long guitar strap so his bass hangs down at thigh level. With a bass slung that low, it’s much more comfortable to slap from above with your thumb pointing down.
Jazz bassists, on the other hand, wear their basses much higher - sometimes as high as mid-chest level - where it’s more natural to slap from below with the thumb pointing up.
Slap newbie asking how on earth you're hitting the g string at 3:42?
Please, more gospel bass licks :') and slap.
I'm mostly getting thuds and ringing sounds and that's just from the E string. The E string is the only one that seems like this thumb smacking technique works, the other strings just make annoying thud sounds and the Note I want comes out as an after thought when my thumb has moved off the string. I've tried doing this on the fretboard and it's just more thud, and closer to the neck pickup it's not any better. Am I supposed to get the sound right away or does that take years also? Popping is as close as I've gotten but it's not slap and it takes more energy- plus it looks wrong when I do it. Can't make my action any lower or else there's fret buzz, and the strings I put on today are as bright as ever so idk what I'm doing wrong. 🤷♂️ I've always kind of hated this method because of the noise my thumb makes as I come down- that clacking noise nothing like what I hear from bassists, it's mostly the pop I hear. Even dead notes to me sound more like the thumb is forcing the string to move instead of patting it. The louder or harder I am about it the worse it all rings out of the amp and I just don't like it 😅 I don't mean to offend those that slap like that, which seems to be everybody, but it must not be meant for me. I get faster results from letting the thumb do all the work flicking- though it is disappointing when I can't do that for the intro of "John The Fisherman" where Les is basically slapping two strings at once. Idk 🤷♂️
Make sure you are going through the string as well. You smack the string, but you still stroke it slightly with your thumb
@@gd-lockc7618 I've actually noticed that with the D and G today. I've got a lot of fine tuning ahead of me but newer strings are my best bet right now.
Bruh! You are most kind in your delivery. But you KNOW the downward thumb technique is Whack as heck!! Very limiting as far as attack and very sloppy. But you articulated it well for who needed to hear it.
Different positions. Also have a different sound.
This may sound weird but seein yo hand slide up an down the fret bowd was kinda freaky deeky, i liked it. I'ma gonna buy a bass on monday and for sure dump my boyfriend. I intend tow have a mass debate (we gonna fight )with him on monday mornin and he best be out by midday, he aint gonna be happy losing out to a bass guitaar, but any woods good wood in my book.
Best comment 🤣
Alcohol will make it brighter💡
👉🏽Also make slides more audible 😐
90% percent for bla bla bla... Only 10% for little bit of showing tips
…Says the person that’s mad they can’t play….
Stop wasting your time commenting and go watch someone else that doesn’t talk….
You really took time out of your day to make a negative comment on a FREE lesson ? LOL dumbest thing ever. People like you are I why I quit RUclips. Ungrateful MFs
Lower action. It took me 20 years to figure that shit out 🤣🤣🤣
