Although I am English, I and the members of our school choir were taught this beautiful song by our Welch music master. It will be played at my funeral.
Irish folk music, Scottish bagpipes, English Brass bands, Welsh singers. When Brexit is long forgotten, a person as yet unborn is on the throne and I am dust the music of these Isles will not only be our heritage but what keeps us together.
We Welsh have many great songs and singers this is one of my favourites. Sung at funerals throughout our Country I dare you not to shed a tear during this love song.
My dad would have celebrated his birthday on 17th December. A proud Welsh man from Gas Row Dowlais. 33 years but still miss him. He would have loved this
As a musician and citizen of planet earth I find this incredibly moving, I consider myself British but was born in "England" and recognise that my Welsh brothers and sisters were dealt many a great injustice in the past. I lived in Wales for a time and found it deeply rewarding...I hope in time we can truly live understanding our heritage, recognising our past, celebrating our now whilst being optimistic for our future. :-) xxx
I too would like to thank my Welsh Brothers and Sisters. Without their sacrifice to low productivity and high social housing figures per head of population, programmes like Homes Under The Hammer and Don't Get Done Get Dom, would never have been made. Thankyou x
muppetrolf I would love to return the thanks to you English, without which many episodes of Jeremy Kyle, and shows like Teen Mom UK and what used to be my personal favourite -Benefits Street would not exist :) Shame you had to ruin a nice comment though, I wouldn’t expect anything less
Well said Robert. I value our Welsh brothers and sisters all the more for the injustices they suffered at the hand of the English. A great nation is Wales. And beautiful singers too.
What do you mean suffered at the hand of the English. Lets not talk about Lloyd George and the English he slaughtered or the Scotsman Haig who joined in with him. I am Welsh born and bred live in Brecon, but the tripe I hear sometimes from my fellow Welshmen is just plain bollocks.
This is the most beautiful song ever. I would want it played at my own funeral but I won't be there to hear it. I only know about it because it's sung by the male voice choir at the end of the Twin Town film in the Fatty Lewis' funeral scene where he's sort of burried at sea.
Even the words are magic, and I don't understand Welsh. The 'stuttering' at the end of lines, turns it into a conversation. It was my Mother in Laws favourite. She played it in Chapel.
My father was welsh and he was a c**t, so there is no love lost between me, an Englishman, and 'wales'. However, having vented my pent up wrath I will hold my hands up and say, as a very competent musician, nothing beats a Welsh Male Voice Choir and this brings tears to my eyes. Superb. Complete respect. And, further respect to all the Welshmen, and very other nationality, that chose to go underground, in unimaginable conditions and danger, to dig coal so that us 'top livers' could be warm. Thank You and God bless you.
This is for my lovely wife hilary who I Love more than words can say and to all my friends on Facebook happy st David's for tomorrow stay safe and enjoy your selves ❤❤🏴❤❤happy st David's day ❤❤🏴❤❤
