This video was very helpful I just took out my air filters at 154,873miles and they had pine needles and all sorts of crap!
Wow! Sounds like it was definitely time for a replacement!
Thanks for the info. I just took out my original filters from 15 years ago and they were trashed. I gained at least 50% more air flow in my a/c once they were removed.
Smart move on getting those changed.

Anyone who still needs to do this. I just bent the fuze box bracket out of the way enough to slide the filter out and back in then bent it back. Saved the hastle of doing all this crap. Took about 5-10min whole job
This video gives me hope on my 08 Mazda 3, I wish they made it as easy as my wife’s 2014 model. FML
Happy to hear this video helped!
Thanks for this video! I hope whoever designed this system steps on a lego
LOL! yeah this is a poor design and you are welcome!!

Thank you.. Very clear..
You are welcome!
Shouldn’t have tried this myself, made it to unplugging the fuse box but somehow shorted the turn signal, now I need to pay someone else for the air filter AND the turn signal 😂
We are so sorry to hear this happened! This is definitely a much more delicate installation process compared to your standard cabin filter change.
Damn why is it so hard to replace a filter
Yeah this is a poor design but most newer Mazdas have a better installation process.
Can i just unscrew the whit plastic housing where the filters are located instead of having to take the fuse box thing off etc? I can reach the white filtwr housing whiteout. I have a 2008 mazda 3
Looks like you would atleast need to remove the bracket that holds the fuse box, as it gets in the way when removing the white plastic. Looks like it would make it difficult to remove and replace the filter with the box still attached.
It would be best to follow the videos process. Mazda could of done a better job with this installation process.
Can I do this with Mazda 3 2008 as well?
Yes the installation is similar and it takes the same filter.
Do i disconnect the battery before I start?
Yes, you can do this before changing out your filter.
Last time I disconnected the battery my Mazda would not run properly for about 45 minutes. Can I do the filters without losing computer memory
@@randywong4491 I wouldn't go disconnecting the cabin side fuse box without disconnecting the battery first. Mazdas are rather touchy about their electricals, and there's at least one systemic problem with the instrument cluster power wiring that causes it to short out if, for example, the cigarette tray light is disconnected.
I wouldn't risk it - disconnect the battery. Your engine has some serious issues if it's not "running properly" before the ECU compensates; might wanna get a scan tool and check if there's some excessive timing adjustment or fuel trim going on. My guess is your spark plugs are worn out.
Why does no one talk about the battery? What do I touch under the bonnet to make it safe?!
You can search for how to uninstall a battery and there should be a video showing the proper way to unhook a battery.
Great video but this is ridiculous.
Thanks, I agree this is a poor design.
Horror movie lol.. 😂
Once I
had to replace one. it was awfull
Yes a dirty cabin air filter is scary.
@@filterheads i'm talking specific about mazda 3 09 it's very difficult. In other cars takes about 1 minute to replace
My guy doesn't specify which side panel...
The passenger side panel.
The one without the steering column
Thought it was 2 step yikes
Unfortunately not.
Looks complicated
This particular install is much more complicated that the average cabin air filter change.
Let a mechanic do this heck No
Unfortunately, they will typically charge a costly amount. But this is one of the few cases where some may consider that to be worth the money to avoid the hassle. We are just here to show you how to do it yourself, if you feel so inclined.
Agree design suck
It is definitely an inconvenient placement.
I love Mazda but come on! This is a very shitty design... I'm kinda disappointed tbh. Regarding the video, it was asesome. Thank you very much 🎈🎈😀😀
Footwell housings are always a bit trickier. We are glad you found the video to be helpful!
