Brilliant video Ryan, thank you. I am especially grateful that you keep those errors in - resolving things when we mess up is part of the fun* of building and seeing the errors someone else has made helps us all avoid them and increases the value your videos add enormously. I think you’ve got the balance right - keeping in the videos of drilling out the occasional rivet isn’t necessary, it’s the more esoteric errors that help. Keep up the good work!
[* might not be ‘fun’, but certainly builds character…]

I’ve broken my own rule, that being, wait until all the episodes are out and binge watch.
I love watching how you roll with the punches Ryan, being overseas a boo boo takes parts weeks to arrive, oh the pain the pain.😅
I await your next upload, keep up the great work M8.

You can’t wait till the end! We need you onboard.
And yes, I feel privileged to have Vans down the road. With the amount of mistakes I make, we’d be in this till 2030…

Another good video. "Want to build a plane?" rivet...rivet...rivet...rivet...rivet..........................You should be a master riveter by the end of this.

I’ve come a long way, that’s for sure! And there’s plenty more to go. I just finished match drilling another couple hundred holes… they just never end man.

One point for me 🤭.. I saw you spaying and thought... Hey a lot less pressure.
Nice video again! Keep it up.... The reward in the end is amazing 💪💪👍

I definitely had less press at the gun this time around. And less paint. Yet somehow it almost went quicker, I think because I wasn’t blowing it all over the place and also trying to fix mistakes.
Are you thinking I still need less, or did you notice that I had less?

You are doing a great job Ryan! I also dog eared/rounded those same flanges on that bulk head. I think it helps the fit especially in areas where the skin makes a tight wrap around. Keep up the work because it’s worth it. I recently reached the 40 hour mile stone on my RV-7 for phase 1. Now I can go places.

Oh man! I wish I was in the sky but at the same time it would be so sad to skip the journey of building.
Thanks for the kind words and following along! Some day soonish I’ll be flying up there somewhere too!

It’s about to start looking like a plane!

We’re getting there. I’ve just made some space for plane-like structures…

    Another super vid, Ryan.
Love that you draw attention to errors. I’m just starting into the Wing kit and there’s nothing more frustrating than a silly blunder caused by something that’s totally avoidable. Always comforting to see that it happens to us all!
Ps: if it makes you feel any better about your longeron/angle, spare a thought for me, getting parts shipped by Vans to Ireland. The wing kit cost c.$5k in shipping alone. I cannot imagine how I’d react to f*****g up a spar🤯

Yikes! Yes, I'm very fortunate to live so close to Van's, and hope others can use it as a cautionary tale. Likely, I'd be out a couple hundred bucks in shipping because I didn't notice 1/16" versus 1/8". That inventory is crucial and easy to miss items--I really did take my time on it!
Hope you are having as much fun over there building a plane as I am here. And thank you for the terrific compliment!
(PS: Ireland is real high up on my list of places to visit--though I don't think I'll be taking the RV7)

Steadily getting it again man! Nice progress. Mistakes are natural and time-consuming to fix, giving you time to think about not making them again, such is life. Your bulkhead is lighter! Enjoyed it! Onward! Should I reserve a flight with you now? This pace is pretty impressive!

Things will slow down, but the next few episodes will be exciting, I can tell.
And yes, submit your booking now for when I take this bad chicken on a cross country tour!

Hi Ryan sorry i keep meaning to comment and subscribe to your channel. Which i have now done. Your doing a great job of the build but also the videos they are quite concise and entertaining you only really stop to talk about the things that are important. I like your work ethic and see your style is much like mine as far as pace, determination and quality. Im currently building an RV8 here in Perth, Australia and also own a lovely flying Pitts S1S. I used to own an RV6 with a few of my friends but got the aerobatics bug so i went all in for a Pitts. Starting to miss touring though so hence the RV8. What do you do for your day job? Cheers!

Thank you for the compliments! Such great feedback.
I was just admiring a Pitts at the airport yesterday. They were a childhood favorite. I still dream of an S1S. Or the model 12… what a nutty machine that one is!
I work in marketing, though my original passion was engineering (electronic/computer) but life had different plans. I thoroughly enjoy my work though.
Hope the RV build is coming along nicely. That’ll get you back some of the range you’re likely missing! Thanks again, wonderful to hear from you!

Looking good! Do you have a time frame when you think first flight could be?

Oh shoot. I’m still in the “if it flys it’ll be a miracle” phase. There’s so much left to do.
If I could get it in the air spring of 2026 I’d be pretty happy.

@@RyanFlysPDX I feel ya on that one. I too am working on the bulkheads.. I’m hopeful for fall 2024 if everything falls into place perfectly. You are definitely smoking through it.

How do you clean your paint gun?

    • @RyanFlysPDX
      @RyanFlysPDX  Год назад

I wasn’t cleaning the first gun well enough. I’d spray some thinner through and call it good-saw that somewhere. The Akzo built up quickly and affected performance. Too long soaks and scraping to get it clean.
Now once I’m done spraying I break it down completely and wipe it all down/scrub it with thinner. Takes about 5 minutes each time.
