Excellent work on those VSTAB tips! But please, please wear eye protection-not just Dremel cutting-but drilling too. So easy to snap a small drill bit and send it flying. Basically, any time you are using a powered tool.
Hey Ryan - I know it's been a while since you did the fairings for the rudder and HS. But, do you remember if you put peel ply on the foam and then laid the fiberglass on that (so it would release more easily from the foam) or did you put the glass directly on the foam?
Paul! I haven’t made a purchase yet, but I’m leaning toward the Lycoming M1B. I’ve also looked into Titan series a bit, but I’m concerned that it would complicate installation. Nothing set it stone!
Ok-so here’s what we got. Initial coats were duplicolor automotive filling primer. Final coat was same line, but the light primer. (Sandable, light scratches.)
They’re close enough to get some great building tips between the two! Heck, there’s so many commonalities between all aluminum experimentals I keep finding myself picking things up from bush plane builds!
It is looking awesome. The more I watch the more you are inspiring me to start the 9A!
Heck yeah! Bust that thing out and get to riveting! (Wearing safety glasses, of course!!)

Thank you for caring! It’s not intentional-I throw them on as soon as I remember.
I think your comment will help ensure I don’t forget. Again, thanks!
Great to watch you work through the problems as you encounter them, must be great to see the parts coming together!
It's very satisfying! Always eager to see the next piece take shape!
Great work Ryan!
I’m still picking away at my RV14A Vertical Stabilizer whenever I have a chance over here.
Love to hear it! Seems like a lot of people on their tail kits-most of the builders I know really. Popular time to start a kit!

I used packing tape and PVA mold release. Peel ply likely should have been used on the outside, and would have made the finishing steps a bit easier.
Hey Ryan thanks for the videos. Which engine are you using?

What can spray did you spray the fiberglass tips with?
I used a high build primer from Auto Zone, and finished with a separate product. I’ll check the brands tonight and post what they were.

Thank you! I plan on building a RV-9A soon so I’m following your RV-7 build.
