Yeah, the only real fun you can get from the Standalone is from the community servers. Official servs were too quiet and there was little loot in towns that were completely unexplored. I wish I could access the Mod, but I can still have fun in the community servers on standalone, since I get engaged with the admins quickly.

That progression bit at the start of survival games is my favorite part of the genre. Starting out completely clueless, then slowly picking up important info and learning to prioritize, growing better not because my characters stats, but because I am becoming experienced with the scenario. The first Ghost Recon was like this too. Some Russian grunt spots your toes from 300m away, you hear a soft FUUMP just before a GP-25 grenade explodes beside you and kills your entire squad. It'd take you 3 or 4 attempts to even figure out how to avoid immediately dying. But it made you think like a super-sneaky soldier who didn't actually want to die.

God I'm loving this. pausing at 8:40 just to say thank you. I know theres another 40 minute video coming up and maybe you touch on this there but something that can't go unremarked upon was the effect the game had on antisocial gamers who tended to avoid 'guilds/clans/teamspeaks' [which these days is all Discord]. The need to organize and team up with people and find friendlies pushed a lot of us to change the way we went about enjoying games. It made me more social and open to collaborative gaming.
Joking aside I had stopped bothering to follow this channel since there was nothing for months and the sudden drop of content got my attention again so good job. Consider add int c9 tent that you can prep in 2 days not all magnum opuses.

So there i was teamed up with some rando i found on the coast because he had a can-opener and i had some cans of beans. Which meant we were temporary friends. The beans were running low however so we headed into town to look for supplies but a mission happened to pop up and trap us there. We tried to fight our way out of town but between the AI and the zombies we were outgunned and out numbered. With bullets and blood running low we called out for help to anyone who could come rescue us. 5 mins later a silver UH-1Y helicopter swoops into town with a ghillie guy at the pilot seat to save us from certain doom. 7 years later i still game with that pilot that saved my bacon.

Don't worry womble, once dayz finally gets its head out of the gutter, they'll finally implement those pine forest sections that were lacking from the base release.
The trick with zombies was always to go inside a building since the zombies couldn't run in them for some reason, and also to always look for zombies spawned when running into a city from the outskirts. This meant that a player was already there.. The zombies never spawned out in the woods, only around landmarks or towns or cities, so you could always tell if a player was somewhere by looking for the zombies long before you arrived. I still remember the 1st or 2nd life I had on the first server I played, I just ran into the woods not knowing where to go. I met a guy from Sidechat named Marc who I am still friends with today, he met me in Gorka with a car he had and showed me a G36K in the trunk, told me to pull it out and start shooting zombies for practice. My game ran at about 20-30 fps when outside of the major cities because I had a core 2 duo or something, it wasn't until later when I got an i5 2500k CPU that the game actually ran well for once. That was after I had put in about 3 or 4,000 hours into the game.. There was one day I will never forget (I will never forget a ton of my experiences in the game, despite not having any of it recorded), but we managed to find at least 4-5 of the LARGE helicopters of the server, it was a Vanilla server I am pretty sure. One day our group of 8-10 players found and repaired all the big helicopters, and we flew them over Chernogorsk and used the machine guns in the windows to just shoot EVERYONE. There is video footage of that on someone's hard drive somewhere. It was such a fun time. Those first months or year of the dayz mod vanilla experience was incredible, before everyone jumped off to Epoch or Origins servers. When you had to find a tent and REALLY hide the thing in the woods, or find super hidden spots like underwater, where you could exploit a spot and get under a lake and then place tents where very few people knew about them, or inside of walls in buildings. Finding the best spots to hide your tents (before lockboxes on Epoch mod) was some of the funnest I had ever been a part of. Or finding a few tents out in the far reaches in the woods and taking all the loot, such a rush.

First two minutes of this video im thinking "Damn that looks like Operation: Flashpoint..."
DERP!
This is brilliant man, cheers for making this. Very interesting. As for 7:52 - the game loop hasn't changed at all for new players haha
"How do I make my game more immersive?"
"Hurghhhhh ... big.... treeeeeeee"
"Are you saying what i think you are saying?"
"Hurglblurg.... Pineforestssssssssssssssst"
This is great. I ended up playing dayz for the first time yesterday and loved it, to get a bit of background is cool.
Insert bubble throat monke screaming cause literally this is amazing
Being a fan of video essays myself I am loving your style and form of them keep up the great work I’m looking forward to more in the future

0:47 I'm listening to the video in the background, I turn my head for a brief moment, and was like "Wait wtf was that? That's where I live!"
I'm really liking this format and how you present it. Documentary almost in style but with a true Soviet script!
3:20 “might actually be Glasgow” LMAO
Joking aside I had stopped bothering to follow this channel since there was nothing for months and the sudden drop of content got my attention again so good job. Consider add int c9 tent that you can prep in 2 days not all magnum opuses.
Oh. Wow. Let's go! New video I will come back to when my KFC arrives.
Can you share?
Im hungry
You got biscuits?
What did you get
@@Alchemeri I got a milkshake .....
Dude this video is absolutely astounding. The amount of editing. Very informative. Gaming is something else lol
5:16 yo I literally said pine forests as that screen was coming up, I just knew that it was going to be there
Thank God he is now frequently posting videos nowadays
2:11 "Theres no I in denial"
Awesome to see this. I remember playing the original arma 2 mod. They really missed the mark, waiting too long to go stand-alone. Such amazing times.
Oh wow, Soviet was 15 already when I was born. He's so much older than I thought
He may be 34 or so by now.
And you're still a kid now. So what
@@SPFLDAngler jeez, wtf is wrong with you, no need to be aggressive, did your girlfriend cheat on you or something?
I love it womble I've been watching for ages now and I'm still consistently surprised and satisfied by you videos despite your upload schedule... Thank you for your commitment sir!!
This made me tear up. Beautiful story. When’s the wedding?
@@izzy1221 Wedding? Dude we SOUL bonded. I would not tarnish that with a filthy wedding.
These eassys are quite informative and enjoyable to watch at the same time. Quite difficult to achieve both at the same time, which is why I like these so much already. Keep up with these Soviet.
Soviet: thinks about frankies clip
Also soviet: looks up at photo of bambi symbol
Soviet: puts in arma 2 clip
Frankie: thanks for the promotion g
Soviet: no probs my guy
I just subscribed and this is this what we need, this is like mod history. Honestly you'll have lot's too talk about. Please keep doing this
Okay so we've actually got one of the video essays out. ETA on the Dungeons and Dragons stream/video then?
Awesome video Womble, remember Operation Flashpoint was incredible game and of course Days Arma2 mod I played for about 3 years addicted as hell :D
Chads watch both vids at the same time on separate tabs
ah man, the first hours in DayZ Mod have been some of the best gaming experiences ive ever had =) it also brought all my love and respect for Arma back.
“Stealy Wheely Automobily”
Is that a reference to the other middle aged man from Brighton Yahtzee?
soviet's from Hove, actually
I LOVE how your narration sounds. Would gladly watch this as a series
Don't worry womble, once dayz finally gets its head out of the gutter, they'll finally implement those pine forest sections that were lacking from the base release.
I personally would love more pine forests!
Womble I've missed you so much please write more often, for times here are getting cold and barren. I have almost forgotten your face my love may you send me a lock of your luxiourous hair x
From your darling away Aaron
I came back from part 3 because I forgot to like this one. this is to show that you did a fantastic job with this and should keep doing them!
If this doesn’t get into their statements of “we have hundreds of devs” but couldn’t even code ai and literally took years to make trees I will be disappointed
Absolutely fantastic video. I already love this new series of yours!
"Might actually be Glasgow" ahahaha
Well done mate, top stuff. Waited a long time for these essay's and was not disappointed.
