I just got the black version. It is very nice but a tad small. The band is on the very last hole. Do you know of a nato band that will fit the smaller watches like this one?
A Kuwait soldier gave me one in Afghanistan as a birthday present in 2008, I have been around the world with it and its still going strong. next stop Africa.
Just chiming in to say I've had mine since 2006 and it works as good as new apart from some exterior wear from years of work and abuse. Absolutely recommend it.
Just got this same exact watch today from Walmart. (No thanks to waiting an eternity for someone to finally help me at the jewelry counter.) It had a clearance sticker of $53.50, a price I was fully prepared to pay. And I was even more surprised when the price rang up for $22!! A G-Shock that would normally retail between $80 to $100, and I got it for $22! Deal of the year for me!! :)
DUUUDE. I LITERALLY GOT THE SAME WATCH WITH THE CLEARANCE 22$ PRICE TAG. AND ITS SOLAR POWERED!!! I WAS MORE HAPPY THEN WEN I GOT MY GD400 FOR 100 BUCKS. HAHA. COMPLETELY DIFFERNT WATCHES. BUT I BEEN WANTING A SOLAR POWERED G SHOCK. AND I SEEN THIS FOR 22 BUCKS AND SHIT MY PANTS LOL. SO HAPPY.
I found one of the $22 ones at Walmart tonight and all I can say is WOW! If you can find them at the $22 price point, it's the best value for money you will ever get in a watch. Not only is it extremely rich in features, it's also very comfortable to wear. Considering G-Shock's level of quality, I'm sure this thing will stay on my wrist for many years to come!
It’s without a doubt, the best value watch with the most possible features you can get from a Casio. I scored 2 at the $22 wal mart clearance sale within the past few years. I kept one & ended up giving one to my son. What I really like too, is the fact that no matter how many times you use the light or any other features, you never have to worry that you’re shortening the battery life. The multiband 6 atomic clock radio frequency update & solar power are INCREDIBLE features of the watch & being a G-shock on top of it all! 🔥
Just got mine a couple weeks ago, I have had solar atomic rangeman, and this works just as well. I paid 90 some at walmart. I live in a converted garage appartment with a metal roof and acorn tree which pretty much covers the whole roof. I sit in my recliner watching u tube movies until the wee hrs, mine does the time recalibration 90% of the time. Mostimes even when I'm asleep in the bedroom, great watch, im in Texas at about 515 ft altitude above sea level. Very happy with the product.
I owned the original version of this watch I bought back in 2007, when it had the completely worthless Time Memo feature in place of a countdown timer. Also the left side sub-dial didn't count seconds it went by minutes. I gave it away to a friend who could use it after I had bought a different G-Shock, But despite it's flaws it was a solid piece and my first G-Shock. I feel so nostalgic watching this I've been so tempted to buy a new one.
I have an older one with time memo on the upper right of the bezel. It updates atomic time at 05:03 anothe peculiarity it has a tiny letter c above and slightly right of the radar dish received indicator, but it still works, full batt indicator as well, clean crystal too.
I have this watch......I've had it for years. Bulletproof. Not sure when I bought it but it has to be at least 12-15 years old. I just changed the rechargeable battery....easy as pie. This is my go to, waterproof always spot on accurate watch in my stable of watches. Swimming, yard work, golf, bike ride....this is the one and only. If you can....buy it. It is a keeper.
I thought about getting this watch. Another channel just recently reviewed this watch having an extremely low "close out" price which would make it the really good - great daily banger watch, I just don't care for the tiny unreadable feature/ function windows. And I think there are similar style models where it's not an issue and probably reason for the price drops on this one.
Hi there. Nice video of my favourite g-shock. Just to know: the bezel is stainless steel on both the 500 and 530 models, but the case is resin. Regards
I bought a GW 500A in October 2001. It’s still working! Sure it’s looks a bit worn, but it still functions well as my beater. It’s truly an exceptional value under $100.
Something that most of you folks overlook is the fact that this is one of the few g shock that is considered "small" for slim wrist folks. Most g shocks are 50mm+, whereas this one is at 46mm. That is considered small for a g shock. Multi band with tough solar is a win at this price tag.
I also got this from Amazon for about $55. Total steal at that price. Pros: very solid look and feel, steel case (or something that looks and feels exactly like steel), very rugged, Atomic and solar (!) and auto-EL (which to me is big), quite easy to set and is intuitive. Cons: is a bit heavy on the wrist (for some that might be a Pro), the band is not that comfortable and feels a bit stiff, and the buttons are a bit too small. Overall I would give this one an A-, especially at this price.
I've got the fire version. One of my favorites because of the larger lcd time display. My work watched are not fashion accessories so the large time, insane durability, and cheap price makes this a winner hands down.
Great watch, picked one up a couple of months back for $71 which is still a good deal. They must of fixed the dial on later batches because it's doesn't cut off the numbers on the time display.
That’s exactly how Amazon shipped it to me also and it was all crushed. I am actually returning it because the battery will not charge more than half no matter how long I keep it in the sun, and it will not connect to the atomic clock and every time it says error.don’t know what this is a flaw in this watch but hopefully the new one replacement will work unless you have any ideas because I might be doing something wrong
You mentioned how the gwm500a-1 your digitized it's too under the larger of the 3 rings. I got mine from Amazon a few days ago, and they must have moved the LCD Chip. Mine doesn't touch. Vernon
@@maverickwatchreviews Most likely I will go for 5100. This and 5100 both are "ugly", but 5100 is "ugly" in a very special way , like Mercedes G-Klasse if you know what I mean :)
I have one of those, bought in April 2013. Original band just broke the other day. Worn almost 24/7. Still working fine. Debating between buying a new band or sink that money into a new watch.
@@maverickwatchreviews you said you're in the east coast. I'm near Boston MA. The atomic signal here is practically none exciting. I have to use an app to mimic the signal. Do you have that problem as well sometimes?
I don't have any problems with the signal. I can see why you might though since you're much further away. Try setting the watch in a West facing window at night with the watch angled at 45 degrees facing up. Might help with the signal.
Great review !!! 🙌🙌👍Did the watch come out the box accurate to the second ? Was there any fiddling with the controls to get it there (set time zone perhaps) ? Also the same question with Daylight Savings ? Thanks !
I received mine yesterday and the watch battery must be super low because the buttons don't do a thing!! How long does it take to recharge or is the unit defective?
Please just tell us how to program the watch to automatic mode I have this exact same watch and it keeps screwing up on me and automatically changing and I need to fix it to my time zone I live in the central daylight time I'm in Springfield Missouri
Instructions: In Home City Time Keeping hold the ADJUST button until the city code flashes. Press MODE Button, City Code should then say ON, OFF, or AUTO. thanks for the video. this watch is beautiful but the dial is small in real life. lug to lug(top of case to bottom) is about 53 or 54mm and not really for small wrists. i tried this watch at walmart it was little too big for me, i tried dw6900(lug to lug is 53.2) and that fits ok. i wore g9000 to the store to compare and the g9000 fits my small wrist perfectly
Merely mosey to Casio support, following what you see on your screen which will take you to the manual page to download, and provided you have a PDF document reader it will show up on your display
Can somebody please give me a valid instruction on how to manually program time on this watch because the area I live in, does not have the satellite capability
Hackable means you can stop the second hand on a mechanical watch to precisely set the time. Quartz watches are already hackable due to the way you can digitally set the time.
@@maverickwatchreviews thanks so much! I love your reviews and appreciate the fast response. I just bought this watch and love it. I'm already looking at more g shocks they are so much fun!
I have one of these. I have been wearing it daily since at least 2004. It syncs best when I sleep in it for some reason. The worst part is the strap, which doesn’t last me very long. I think I’m on like number 5 or so. The watch won’t die so when I break the next strap, it’s getting retired. I will probably get a newer model that I can adapt to a nato strap.
Didn't they shut down the atomic tower in the United States? Atomic may be a useless function if that's true. And trust me, I own 6 atomic watches including G-Shocks and Pro-treks.
Guys this is the cheapest Atomic Solar G-Shock you can get right now and it's a heck of a deal @ only $66.00!
I just got the black version.
It is very nice but a tad small. The band is on the very last hole.

I just bought this watch at Walmart for $22 by the reviews it looks like I got a hell of a good deal even though it's 4 years old now
A Kuwait soldier gave me one in Afghanistan as a birthday present in 2008, I have been around the world with it and its still going strong. next stop Africa.
This watch has been with me all my life, as I’m young. It is extremely tough.
Just chiming in to say I've had mine since 2006 and it works as good as new apart from some exterior wear from years of work and abuse. Absolutely recommend it.
Is the strap good?

I've had the older model since 2010 still running on the original battery the watch is a tank. Both of my sons also own it as well!

Your suspicion is right, it has stainless steel bezel on resin case.
So I wasn't crazy...lol.
It isn’t the subdial obscuring the LCD, it’s the shadow cast by the subdial, which only falls on the LCD at certain angles.
