My favorite thing about you is that you just post whenever tf you want. Youre not a slave to youtube or attention. You just live it and get around to letting us watch eventually
Exactly. Hopefully when ever he wants turns into multiple times a week. 😂
that's your favorite thing?
@@bowdezaufa2609 quality > quantity
I can't be the only one who smiled as soon as they saw the drill because Sam is drilling another hole in his boat. 😂
I love Sam's positivity and productivity. No bullshit, just sailing.
his whole channel is a marketing campaign by big power drill
@@oooooollllllll hahahahhahahahhahahha
The only sailing channel where you can see both drilling holes in the boat and cutting holes in the sails.
we are interested in the Mira when you are ready to sell. I’m 14 and me and my dad just started sailing last summer on a hobie 16 after I saw your sailing to the Bahamas on the hobie 16. That was one of the big things that got us sailing. We would love to try sailing a larger boat. So please let us know we would love to continue Mira’s sailing adventure. We live in Melbourne FL . We will sail it back here from wherever it ends up.
I have old sails and experienced what you have too. The bolt rope actually shrinks due to mechanical hysteresis. Like 3 strand docklines, repetitive strain on the fibers causes them to heat up and shorten and get stiff. You got the immediate fix done but you'll need another bolt rope on there real soon to keep the sail from fraying. Happy sailing Sam and thanks for taking us along on your adventures! Dean
Mechanical hysteresis that's a new one for me!
@@stevenholton438 shi gets hysterical and fobs off, so
Hey, Treasure Coast is my neck of the woods! I'm new to sailing and my good friend and full-time sailing friend recommended me to your channel...Imaging my surprise and joy to see you sailing through my locale! Happy to have been introduced to your channel Sir, and I genuinely appreciate the time and effort you put into your productions, as well as the pure joy you exude making them. Cheers to you and your many adventures!
"May the wind be always [in your favor] and the sun upon your face, and the winds of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars!"
My old sailboat Lilly was in your video at that draw bridge. Been following you since your crazy awesome solo trip from Cali to Hawaii. Keep up the great work. You’re making me want to get another sailboat. 😂 I’m about to do the Appalachian Trail and then maybe Pacific Creat and Continental Divide, then back to the water.
Treat yourself and watch all of his past episodes. They are all great!
That's awesome. Live it up
Hey Sam I've subscribed to your channel for a long while now and I love it. I'm retired and had to sell my boat in England before I moved to the far East. As a suggestion maybe you could make a series of 30 minutes videos aimed at the inexperienced, focussing on hard lessons you have learned along the way. Just an idea
Sam, you forgot your eye protection when you cut the metal railings on the back of your boat.
That could've blinded you.
Please be careful. You are the #1 SAILING SHOW on RUclips in many ways.
A free BAYFIELD 29 is my dreamboat.
Drilling holes and cutting sails with scissors :D The sail looked alot better after yeah. Looking forward to your Europe tour. Is the Med next on the list?
It was great having g you in Fort Pierce! Come back any time. Excited for your new adventures!
BTW, we got an Ericson 35-3. Just brought her to Fort Pierce today
"I just need to do this... How?... He pulls out a box of Screws & a Screwgun".... gotta love it...
You need to get a bicycle rigged up to a prop for those calm days.
Hey Sam!!! The bike on the bow is so Sam Holmes style sailing. So much great content and so glad to see another great episode of SHS. This is such a great sailboat that you picked up and got ship shape. Thanks for sharing.
I love the "evil eyes" shot as that boat passed you too closely
Sam keeps that thang (ryobi drill) on him at all times. I love it.
His angle grinder is getting more appearances lately 😂
Me complains all the time for not having space on the boat for toys. Sam -> wing foil, sup, wind surf with two sails, ……. Haha. Man your a magician. Thank you for the video !
Oh wow! Sam!!!! I've been following you for years!!!! You're on Islands Ft. Pierce!??? I gotta come see you man! One of my favorite sailors! I mentioned you every time someone told me my Catalina 30 is too small for ocean sailing! 👍🏾✊🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💯💪🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾
Fort Pierce is a great area, I went paddleboarding in the estuary there last fall.
Man , you are just brutal with the sail! :))) That bolt rope is sewed on. You just have to cut the thread. I always enjoy your videos and admire your attitude to life and sailing!
I like going along with Samwich on his sailing adventures!
Woah, that's Florida. Welcome back.
Your instinct for cutting sails is something I aspire to
Can't have a Sam Holmes video without the Dewalt .. Keep up the good work my friend .
I think you should consider buying a small portable generator for emergencies
Its great how you give new life to old boats
I’ve been watching your channel since the beginning I am amazed at all you are able to do solo. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen any sailor drill so many holes in their boat! I live somewhat vicariously through you. Although when younger I had much of the same carefree life, Bed head and bare foot all day. I miss that! Thanks!!! R
Sam, gotta say, my jaw dropped a couple videos back seeing Tinho in ur vid. He's a legend and brought so much to our windsurfing sport. I met him back in 2000 or so at an event in Atlanta. So cool to see him again and for you to rig up some of that old school windsurf gear he had. Thanks again for all u do for the sailing community.
Tinho is the man. Was great to get to windsurf with him. He has done an impressive job rebuilding his valiant 40 also
Been enjoying your vids since Hawaii. Not sure where you are real time, but if you get near Stuart, I’d be happy to buy you a beer. Gotta go yell at the Ft. Pierce YC for not letting us at the St. Lucie Sailing Club know you were in town speaking. Too bad, we could’ve got you crewing on a race boat in the St. Lucie River!
I live in Stuart too!
I’m happy to see the Osprey. I live in Montana where they spend the spring and summer.
Ah man I didn't want it to end. Nice job. See you next time.
I agree with your crew of watchers, you do a lot but you stay chill almost an ambient level. IMO. Thank you Sam, good Health to you!
Sam, look into stopping by the Coconut Grove Sailing Club when you are in Miami!!! Full services, great location, great sailors!
I’m anchored near there now
Hey Sam, you should go to Port Elizabeth South Africa. Sail in the Swartkops River mouth. I did that for years as a student and the wind always blows 20-30 knots. The sand bank at river mouth is often raised a foot or two, and makes the water smooth. You can do slalom and wave sailing. Also try J-Bay in the eastern cape of South Africa.
I found through experience that flexible solar panels wear out very fast compared to solid panels. It's just according to the philosophy of use that you want to put them to. Trade offs all around
You are an inspiration, Sam. Thanks for putting positive energy out into this crazy world.
Great job on that bolt rope. Now you can properly tension it. Dacron shrinks. Always happens. I always used nylon in my loft. Plus, the way they sew it also shrinks it initially. Only good when it’s new. Love your gathering of the old boaty and getting more life with ingenuity.
watching your adventures with boat make me miss sailing. too bad it's winter but day by day we are getting closer to boat launch season
So chilled!
You helped inspire me to get into sailing so thanks! After months of work getting her ready and taking lessons I have begin to take my first sailboat out regularly. I have been launching my boat out of the Titusville Marina, so I was sad to see I only missed you there by a week or so.
I just love how chill and informative your videos are. You help give me the confidence to upgrade and change my boat even if it means drilling holes lol.
Right on. Sometimes you gotta drill those holes
Fantastic video, Sam. I'm glad you got to share your experiences at the yacht club. (Good trade for a free dock.) Bummer on the solar panels. 😕 Good segment of your wind surfing. Good for you!
Always enjoy your perspectives….
Never thought I would see the day I would watch a b roll montage of the ocean with RUclips classic lofi hip hop playing in the background on a Sam Holmes video
Great spirit Sam. Stay true and on your own course. Hello from London, England : - )
Good piloting, Captain!
Thanks for bringing us along for the adventure Sam.
Thank you Sam!
I am acquainted with ft. Pierce. Spent time there in 1983. It’s an authentic town.
It’s fun to watch your adventures.
Thanks for taking us along for your adventures. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to see a bit of your life.
Loving the windsurfing videos sam, thats one thing I really want to get into. 👌
Buy a used gas outboard.
❤❤Loved the filming at the end. Gave a real sense of the area. Thanks!!!!!!
Yes I was going to say the same thing
Hello Sam been waiting to watch some RUclips videos and your videos I've been in the hospital lately I'm in a motel recuperating from lower back and feet problems now I have a tumor to worry about in my lower abdomen so Monday I will be in hospital again but I will be waiting for your videos I like how you get right into your videos and I enjoy watching them God bless you and safe sailing
Living the life I dream about
Thank you for another awesome video
Always looking forward to your videos. Please post more.
You look so happy!
You could probably cut all the slides, except the aft-most, off the foot of your main and get even better shape as a loose-footed main. Should help with creating depth/power in light airs
That's the island in Vero Beach that I used to pull my boat up to and set up my tent and camp.
Good videos! I'll continue watching.
You are the epitome of a free spirit. Fun to follow. Good job.
Nice video Sam I like them all.
Grew up in Vero, now live far away. Nice to see the stretch of ICW where I used to play as a kid
great video Sam. It looks like you are having a lot of fun there!
Great adventures man! Cheers from northern Chile🤙
I hope one day when im back at fort myres beach I see sam holmes sailing alone big carlos pass
Wow blue sky and sunshine , looks nice Sam.
Very cold here in Scotland at 4c with windchill.
living the life man
I've read that being a very common issue with flexible solar panels. Will Prowse does a good video on flexible solar panels where he talks about performance after time of flexible vs rigid.
Very cool! Thank you! Missed hearing from you. Have a good time. 😊
Good to see you Sam!
I confirm that!
@@caractacus22 To many people not honoring limits and size!!
@@Useless_Knowledge07 !
Good idea to use the anchor to hold you off the dock
We just dropped anchor in ft Peirce today
My grandparents have a place in Fort pierce super cool to see you stop by there
Good to see another centerboard windsurfer
Your so close to we’re I am! In manatee pocket I’ll be going out on my Catalina 22 the 18th wonder were ya be by that time. Hopefully I see ya sail by!
Thanks for cruising down on the ICW. I'm planning to sail my Areys Pond 16' catboat from Cape Cod to St. Augustine this summer/fall, and your insight on the ICW helps.
Love it!
Sam's back! I'm glad your doing OK.⛵
I know where you are I had a home right on the Indian river few years ago cool. Vero Beach was home 2 miles south of the largest bridge i was on the water. My dad used to keep his Cat at the marina right after the second bridge wow. We use to go fishing of the Fort pierce inlet all the time. i was down there few months ago and ate at the Chuck's Seafood Restaurant just on the other side of that bridge. i loved going down on that square and eating from there also. great video
With my old sailboat I cut the bolt rope off with a couple of inches still on it and then I smoothed it out and resewed it
While the world goes to work ,Sam goes sailing. You should write a book,
We were just in Ft Pierce. Awesome inlet. No idea if you're going north maybe we'll see you in St Augustine
There goes Sam drilling holes in his boat.
Shaggy off Scooby doo comes to mind! 😀
Take care and God bless brother
Yeah I see it but only if Shaggy was more of a independent spirit and had the ability to not need to be riding in the back of some uptight guys van with a dog that has food insecurity issues. Sam is a strong loner...when he wishes to be.
Ide rig up a harbor freight preditor motor to the prop. Even a 4.5 to 9 hp motor with a couple gallons gasoline would help you out. Instead of that electric motor
Sam loves to keep those bridges waiting. lol
Your ending was funny cause I was wondering what it would cost me to but this boat when your done with it.
Please let us know how the Bayfield 29 compares offshore to the Cape Dory . T.U.
yep im also hoping to hear Sams opinions on both 👍
I see a lot of sailboats with small wind turbines, I assume for electrical generation-maybe you could look into that
You need a windsurfing harness. It makes all the difference.
Awesome!
Good one Sam
You are fearless and a top man.
Great to see u back Sam.
re the windsurfing, 9 metre sail? thats a real handfull and def not great to be learning with. you need to find some decent strength clean wind and use say no more than say 6.5 metres, much more manageable 👍 we did use upto 8 metres but that was on 11- 12 foot boards.
a lot to be said for gas outboard!
Do you ever want to sail up to Puget Sound? If so you go a place to stay on Bainbridge Island. Love your videos. Thanks!
thanks you are the best
If you get down to Boot Key harbor in Marathon there are a couple of us who also wing foil. Hope to see you down this way. VHF net each day ch 80a at 09:00
