Really excellent advice. It's so true about being fixated on that small percentage at the top and ignoring the large pool at the bottom. Watching you explain this, I realize it's a self limiting mindset to be driven about only selling to that small pool of serious collectors. That small pool is composed of 99.95% of complete strangers. The large pool at the bottom is composed of a much higher statistic of people who are known; either personally or through social media. Many of these people are consistently cheering us on in our artistic journeys. Yet, they are being mostly ignored as a market while we focus on the cream of the crop. I don't know where the mentality comes from that selling something to these people at a price they can afford is like copping out. But hearing that I'm not alone in this biased view has helped me to see that it's a viewpoint I need to discard. Give the large pool of buyers respect and a great experience. All the while, maintaining an intention that down the road, they will have the desire and the means to collect larger works. Also, this group of buyers happily talks about us to their contacts (=free advertising for us!) and we get referrals. This makes so much sense; create something tailored to this casual buyer and market the opportunity to them. This episode's subtitle could be: How to take friction out of your universe.
