Air Dam Delete | Chevy Colorado | Front Bumper Mod

- I remove the air dam from the front bumper of my 2nd gen Chevy Colorado. It was easier than I thought it would be. You don't have to remove the entire front bumper to delete the air diffuser. The process is the same for the Z71 and ZR2, except the Bison. I believe the GMC Canyon is also a similar process but I do not have any experience with the Canyon.
You should have showed a picture of the truck with the air dam removed at the end 🤦♂️ You forgot to stick the landing
Hi, Michael. You are not the only person to call me out on that. I did not realize it until I was editing the video. At that point, I settled and included a shot in the next video.
I know it wasn't a full tutorial on how to remove it, but the way you did it and the angles and views you gave helped me remove the one on mine. Thanks for the information in the video and the great content and quality to go along with it.
Thanks for the comment and glad you were able to get your air dam removed!
I have a 2015 GMC canyon....similar, but I ended up using a cutoff wheel to remove a couple of the fasteners. It just wasn't possible to get to the head of the bolt without removing basically the whole front grille and other parts. I don't really care about the milage, it's just around town driving and rarely sees any highway. Another thing I removed was the side steps....talk about fugly.
Great video. Thanks for simple-izing it
I have a 2022 GMC Canyon AT4 and of course the air dam is on it. Glad I found your video as it gives more information than any other. How long did it take? Was thinking about having the dealer take it off at my first oil change but depends if they are going to charge an arm and a leg. Shouldn't be a big deal as they take them off on the trucks with the off-road package. Thanks agan.
Hi, Skip. It didn't take too long. Filming added time to the project, for sure. I did not want to start the project because I figured it would be a hassle. Once I got into it, it was not bad at all and I felt good about the whole thing. I guess if you have the tools, a garage, and something to elevate the truck a little bit, there's no excuse not to do it yourself.
It took me 10 minutes to remove mine
Bruh. How you going to get a truck and not be able to do a simple task like this. Go trade it in for a Prius
Been catching up on your videos.
Hope all is going well
Hey there, Javier. Glad to hear you are checking out some of my other videos. Still waiting to get an appointment date for my surgery. Been racking my brain for new RUclips content as I try to get my regular work stuff taken care of.
Can tell any difference in mileage since you removed the air dam?
Great video i took mine off for at rip to OBX rather have it ripped off in the sand ruts!!!
Thanks, James. Glad you were able to remove yours!
What size is the drill bit that you used to take off the first nut?
Hey there, Will. The first bolt I removed was a 10 mm Hex. The hardware I encountered was: 7 mm Hex Bolt, 10 mm Hex Bolt, Torx 15 screw
Didn't even show the final product
Hey there, Jay Byrd. I goofed and failed to get a shot of it. I tried to make it up in the video I posted afterwards. I have some shots of it starting at the 9:45 mark, but it was after I did a 3.5 " lift in the front. ruclips.net/video/aYXRtfXm4wQ/видео.html
Right! Wtf
This tutorial worked well.
As tools go, I also included a 1/4” offset ratchet wrench along with a t-15 hex bit.
This had an even smaller clearance than the socket wrench w/t15.
This combo worked out well with a couple of the tough access screws.
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, Roy. That is helpful information.
there goes 2 mpg
.2 mpg maybe
After you get the front air dam out, can you turn the clips the other way so that the screws are more easily removed from the bottom when and if you reattach the air dam?
Hello, Cam. I honestly can't remember it has been so long ago. I flipped a couple of the U-Nuts so the screws would not point out from the body of the vehicle after I was finished. IIRC, there was not an option to have those ones flipped while the air dam was installed and flipping the other U-Nuts might make it more difficult to access. Thanks for commenting, Cam. I appreciate it!
"This is not an instructional video"
*proceeds to make in depth instructional video*
Thanks, for commenting, ChickenLube. The truth can be funny!
Gotta keep the lawyers happy!
Yeah, I took mine off as soon as I got my truck. They’re not hard at all to take off.
Excellent description. Thanks 😊
Hey there, Jim. You're welcome 😊 and thanks for commenting.
Very helpful
Thanks for taking the time to comment, Ferd!
Thank You
My pleasure, Duane.
Any real benefit? Engineering that part for a reason? No?
Gives you up to 3 more gallons per mile
Ground clearance, if you ever actually use the 4WD.
Thank you for making this video. You did an awesome job documenting this modification. I plan to do the same in a week or so (in preparation for an expedition in the north of Quebec) and this will save me a ton of headaches.
Hello, Yves. I am glad you found the video helpful. Safe travels!
Do you have any pics of the front of the truck with the air dam removed? Thanks!!
Hello, Barbara. I know I goofed and did not include any in this video but, I will have some shots in the next video. I still need to edit it and should have it posted in the next few days. Thanks for commenting!
