So totally agree, practically need an engineering degree. Good thing I have one😁. I guess me, you tube and whole bunch of sockets will be trying to do this later today.
I've changed a lot of car batteries over the years but every car and truck is a bit different on the install. This fantastic video made my job so much easier. I had all the tools in hand first, used the flathead screwdriver trick to remove the fuse box and it was a breeze! Thanks so much for the amazing content.
This video has been up for a while, but I decided to look at it since my original battery has been in my 2015 GMC Canyon for over 9 years (not a typo), It is obviously time to think about a replacement (ya think?) and fortunately, I found your video. Very detailed and a major time saver for those of us who have not tackled this project yet. Kudos for a job well done!
I can't believe I had to Google how to change my battery in my 2015 Colorado. Thank you so much for the instructional video. I'm certain I would have broken/ripped apart a lot of pieces without it. I first checked my owner's manual and it wasn't even in there. And a special thanks to GM for making it so difficult...does anyone know if there is a reason for it to be held in so tightly?
The reason is simple, the engineers never have to do the work themselves. Additionally the more difficult it is the more they force people to go to the dealer to get it done therefore they make more money and you keep less of yours.
Great video. It actually took me longer to watch the video than it did to change my battery! Thanks to those rocket scientists at General Motors who never miss an opportunity to make a simple procedure complex. I will sleep better knowing my battery is so securely held by all those clips. Even if I roll my truck I know the battery will still be sitting right where it should be. Now I think I will go test that theory, wish me luck :D)
Thanks for this video. Definitely is more complicated than removing terminal wires and the holding clamp. When I first looked at the battery, wondered about even attempting to replace it. I think I can do it now.
It's probably better you do it than having an auto parts company do it because they will probably break something trying to figure out how to get it out.
Watched this twice before installing mine. Made it super easy, 20 mins. That flathead screwdriver taking off the plastic piece tip is worth money. Thanks!
This video got me back on the road. It was easy to follow and I felt like someone was patiently walking me through it the whole time. Thank you so much!
Thank you soooo much for this video. Imagine my surprise when I lifted the hood of my Colorado to change the battery and saw that! My first thought was that for the first time in my life I might actually have to have a professional replace my car battery? Went through a few videos until I got to yours and you walked me through it. Thank you. Great job.
Thanks so much for this. The battery died at work, and I couldn't get it jumped so I went and got a new battery and as all the guys at work watched I put it in like it was my job, with all the right tools and no hesitation. I'm a 57 year old woman. :-) I saved myself some money and am proud of what I did.
I long for the days when you removed the negative cable, removed the positive cable, lifted the battery out, then reversed the process to install the new battery. Battery replaced in less than 10 minutes. You could do it in a parking lot with one socket wrench.
I drove Silverado trucks my whole life and the new trucks, my 2015 and 2018 batteries went out at almost exactly 2 years. I have a 2022 Colorado now for gas mileage and it looks much easier to change the Colorado battery. On a Silverado you have braces to remove and it's on passenger side back in the corner. Good video
Hey thanks for doing this video and the editing. I watched it last night outside an AutoZone in Colorado and the only thing keeping my hands from freezing was the engine heat haha. My battery just wouldn't budge, so I searched for a video on the topic and found this one. Saved me a lot of time and swear-jar donations. Haha.
Thanks for this video! Getting that crazy distribution block off the top of the battery wasn't happening till you showed the secret screwdriver trick. Nicely done!
I was helping my boyfriend remove his battery in his 2021 Colorado, and he was getting frustrated. I left for 15 minutes to watch the first half of this video, went back, and showed him exactly how to do it, LOL 😂
Thank you thank you thank you. You made replacing the battery on my 2016 colorado more doable. Just finished, took me alittle longer than you😊, but it's done thanks to your very informative video.👍
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I'm a 58-year-old woman who just changed her own Colorado battery thanks to you! I'm forever in your debt since I live 15 miles from the nearest garage and my mechanic's schedule is literally 7 days behind schedule. Happy New Year!
Thanks for the great video. It was very helpful when I needed to remove the battery on my 2017 Colorado. I found your trick using a screwdriver to pop the release mechanism on the positive side plastic cover very helpful!
Excellent Video, Thank YOU! My next project is replacing the Canyon/Colorado brake master cylinder. Have you considered a video on the Master Cylinder?
Nice job, was there anything wrong with the original battery? Or did you just do this for demonstration purposes? It looks like the same battery went back in that you took out.
Thanks. My original battery that I bought the truck with was the one I replaced. The truck sat in the garage for about 2 1/2 weeks and when I came to start it and let the glow plugs warm up, there was a warning message that said the battery was low and I needed to start the truck right away. The truck did start even though it was in the 30's but I took that as a sign to just go ahead and replace the battery since it was over 3 1/2 years old and I didn't want to be on the side of the road with a dead battery in a few weeks. Yes good eye, it was the same battery but the new battery, I returned the core and just didn't have it any more but with the magic of cinematography who would know but you lol.

If your truck just clicks once and won't start after installing the new battery just leave the cables hooked up and shut the hood. After and hour or two the computer will reset and the truck will start. Nowhere does Chevy tell you about this.

Good morning, your video was much help, everything seem to work, but on trying to start the vehicle, it asked to open and close driver's window which I did and then every thing shut down, black, zero.
Thanks for this video. On the new battery, on the red plastic cover that came for the positive terminal, there's that little red round vent plug. I may have missed it in your video -- but did you (or others who have done this) put that plug on the positive side of the battery (to prevent venting into the obnoxiously placed fuse and wires box) and then leave the small round vent port on the negative side open? Really good video. At 6:30 it appears you remove a plastic hold down bracket. Do you have to put that back in place before you lower the new battery back in place or did you put it back after the battery was in place? Thanks!
Thank you! When putting the new battery in, 1st put the battery in, then the hold down bracket, then the bracket post. Hope that clarifies the process.

Because, if you dont know about the clips on the bottom, the ones you cant clearly see, it's going to really SUCK trying to pry out the 58# battery while reaching over and not wanting to scratch the fender. When you loosen the bolt on the inside of the battery it looks really easy but for me, the nut came off and the bolt doesn’t move. Any tips as to why that’s happening or what I might be doing wrong?

Great video but one slight thing. You do not have to remove the positive cable from the fuse box. Just loosen the one black wire and then slide it off to the side. But thanks for the cool tip on the screwdriver down the slot!!!
A blessing on you and your entire tribe for this video. I am "highly confident" that the mechanical and electrical engineering of that battery placement and connection were designed by Satan's learning-challenged little brother. Maybe I missed it, but I don't think you put the pentagonal wedge back on the hold-down post/bolt.
I had trouble with the plastic fuse box cover putting a screwdriver in the slot did not work I had to play with it at the opposite end before it would lift off
When I first looked at the battery, I thought, ‘This will need to be done at the dealer or a garage.” The earliest anybody would schedule me was 3 weeks away. RUclips time. This video is great, I never would have figured this out and this video made it easy. Thanks!

I am "highly confident" that the mechanical and electrical engineering of that battery placement and connection were designed by Satan's learning-challenged little brother. Maybe I missed it, but I don't think you put the pentagonal wedge back on the hold-down post/bolt.
Clips under the battery...wtf! If I didn't watch this first, that would've wrecked my whole day until I did...
Thank you for detailed explanation! You saved me.😊
What a complicated mess. I'm sure at 30 below zero you would end up braking some plastic piece.
Do you need to use a battery tender? any issues with a radio code or anything like that after removing the battery
Some people said everything reset without a battery tender but I didn't use one and I don't recall having to reset anything except the radio channels.
Great video! Perfect pace, I basically did it side by side with you. Thanks!!!😊
I had trouble with the plastic fuse box cover putting a screwdriver in the slot did not work I had to play with it at the opposite end before it would lift off
You only need a 10 and 13 mm socket .. large flathead screwdriver. Pretty simple
Make sure you reset your computer, it needs to be told u installed a new battery. If not your battery will have issues overtime.
This was great. Thank you again!
Can you do a video changing the spark plugs?
Ya ok how do you change the carbon filter I know it in back of the glove carpartmen thanks
Thank you very informative. Shows exactly what you need to do.
When I first looked at the battery, I thought, ‘This will need to be done at the dealer or a garage.” The earliest anybody would schedule me was 3 weeks away. RUclips time. This video is great, I never would have figured this out and this video made it easy. Thanks!
I thought the same thing when I first started!
Great video! I have the same colour and model of Colorado…love it! Swapped the battery for a new one today. Thanks!
It's an awesome color, thanks!
For links to the correct battery for your Chevy Colorado or ZR2, check the description or show more section below the video!
Thank you for sharing this video 👍 I saved myself about 70 bucks changing it myself 😀 and if you didn't show me step by step how to do it, I probably would have broken something and or shocked myself LOL God bless!!
That is really good to hear we are saving people money!!!
Nice review. The tip on how to remove the top plastic assembly was very helpful. It no doubt saved me some time.
and it saved you from having to buy a new plastic part after potentially breaking it off! Thank you!
