    Richard is at the huge Theatre Royal in Glasgow and it’s the biggest crowd he’s ever had at one of his gigs, but he nearly got in a fight on his way here and it’s all his pretentious tour manager’s fault. His guest is the fierce, outspoken and brilliant Fern Brady.
    They chat about choosing inappropriate music for You’ve Been Framed, Shaun Ryder’s dodgy veneers, why Fern got the nick name “hippy” at school, why sexism is worse in the world of comedy than in the world of stripping and what happens if you cut the middle man out of a Human Centipede.

    I had never heard of Fern before Taskmaster 14. If her stand up is half as good she's hilarious. What a riot she was on that show. LOL and her outfit was tragically hilarious

    Ah dayum Fern. You mentioned the trams being introduced into Sheffield whilst you were working in journalism there. I was at the arse end of my Parcelforce career doing the S12 area of Sheffield whilst that monstrosity was being done. It was total hell on the roads. Not the actual reason I quit the job. But a good enough reason if it had been.

    I like her general banter but she is a hypocrite. She says she doesn't want to be called beautiful on stage yet, on stage with Richard Herring, she calls a specific male comedian "really fit. The nice guys like that don't hug you". The implication is that physical appearance is an initial hurdle as to whether or not someone can be in the running to be called "nice". "Really fit" is, or should be, only the language of schoolchildren. Fit for what? Being a potentially great father? Having a great career? Or are you just objectifying someone? She doesn't see that her attitude actually fosters the conditions that encourage appearance and short term relationships over personality and stability. And, to cap it all, she paid to get through the prestigious Edinburgh University by being a stripper. So she's literally teased probably mostly men with a "look but don't touch" part time occupation.

    • @Picnicl
      @Picnicl 4 года назад

      So would I but she'd probably say it's demeaning of me to say so while she's rubbing herself around a fireman's pole. And that is not a euphemism.

    • @Picnicl
      @Picnicl 4 года назад +2

      There is no such thing as "objectively fit" unless you mean in the purely exercise sense OR unless they satisfy the Golden Ratio, which is a very banal way of assessing attractiveness . Notions of and handsomeness beauty change frequently, particularly in countries that heavily take their cues from mass media. A plumpish woman would have been the height of eroticism in some times (the fact that big rears became popular suggests that hasn't gone away). Why can't someone say she's beautiful in that case? I personally think she is. But she should be cleverer than she is for an Edinburgh University student.

    • @scrunty9dillion

      One of the key differences is that she wasn't introducing that guy on stage as fit.

      Yeah, it's a sad state of affairs when someone chooses to be offended by being introduced as 'the lovely...'. Most would brush it off or just accept the compliment. #metoo to the extreme. Stopped watching after that.

    Richard seems a genuinely nice bloke, but he isn't funny. Going straight from sitting naked on a leather sofa to... 'what's next? Oh you at school!' Unless it's Richard who is autie, in which case that's cool.

    This aged badly, although Richard Herring made it pretty clear his thoughts about Russia (i.e. as soon as he found out it was RTE, he didn't go back - good man). Fern Brady sadly far too naïve, and her comments do NOT age well... "I lived off the money for a year"... great.
