Kasey is a phenomenal performer who deserves a genre of her own. She's far more than country. Love everything she's done. News for the fellow Aussies here. Sony is releasing a film on 18th May, in cinemas, JOHN FARNHAM : FINDING THE VOICE. It's way past time this was done for our greatest singer.
Would love to hear some recommendations for some other performances like the Lose Yourself rendition. Didn't enjoy the first song on this video that much, although her voice is on point on that one as well.
We all love our li'l country girl Kasey, down here in Aussie land. And that slide guitar player is Kasey's Father. A brilliant band all round. Mainly a country band, but as you can see Kasey steps into other genres now & then. I sincerely hope Eminem has seen this by now.
@@goonbuggy1135 Let me clarify. Country Music is not a genre of music that I care for at all. Rock & Metal is my main thing. I don't even like Rap. But Kasey is a special talent which ever way you look at it. She has done some pretty good things apart from Country. And she has a big following.
Kasey Chambers' father Bill is a country legend. Both Kasey and Bill have performed and collaborated with Paul Kelly. You are starting to put together the jigsaw of Australian music. Everyone is connected and there is a lot of crossover and collaboration.
I have been listening to this for months now and it brings me to tears every time, Kasey Chambers Reconstruction of Loose Yourself is pure ART Amazing Thanks for finally doing her rendition of this, the best thing that I have heard and seen. It is now a rock masterpiece!!
Another perfect example of an extraordinary Aussie talent taking someone else's hit and making it their own ... only Kasey Chambers could have done that with Lose Yourself; just as John Farnham did with The Beatles' Help. We in Oz are so blessed to be able to call them ours. The world doesn't know what it's been missing all these years

Thanks boys for another great reaction. ❤
As an Aussie I’ve enjoyed the odd song of hers on the radio but had no idea she’d ever covered Eminem. I’m going to have to go down a rabbit hole now. Damn you gents it’s already past my bedtime!
I've been listening to this track almost constantly since I found it about a month back. It constantly blows me away, and I know what Kasey can do. Lose Yourself is on a whole other level.
Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, and during the lockdown for Covid, she reworked Eminem's rap song into her own song; such was difference between the original and her version, that Kasey was given permission to upload this performance to Spotify in it's own right. Where Eminem's rap approach is more reactive, Kasey's approach is more emotive.
I saw the start of this performance of 'Lose Yourself' a little while ago and I sort of thought 'That's cool.' and then I scrolled on. I'm so glad I sat down to watch this video, otherwise I might never have seen the band light up and tear this song pieces in the best possible way. The whole thing was brilliant! Thank you!
Can’t thank you guys enough for both tunes, but Kaseys version of Lose Yourself is probably one of the best cover versions ever, so much so that she made it her own ❤ .. storytelling at its finest..from almost depression into chaos and anger ❤❤❤ ty ty ty
Kasey Chambers is so much more than this video shows. She was young then, and has since had a continuing successful career. That song “Am I Not Pretty Enough “, I consider every girl’s anthem. Kasey wrote it about her difficulty in finding a recording contract. I’m a classical musician but me and my three sons sang her album “Barricades and Brick Walls “ on a road trip from Sydney to Byron - a long way! Plus she’s an absolutely lovely person. I enjoy your reactions.❤
Actually - she had a contract....she wrote it about the fact her 1st album The Captain was a critical & fan success but mainstream radio ignored her music & wouldn't give it airtime.
I too took a while to getting around to watching this. It kept appearing in the RUclips suggestions. Then finally I decided why not...... Suddenly, WOW OMG!!!! What an extraordinary work of art. This takes "covers" to a whole new level. The music sheet was torn up and a whole new one written. Now, you don't just hear Eminem's lyrics, you can feel them. Every musician on stage knew what they had to bring that night, and they delivered.
listen to the interview of her life by jules on YT.. she had an amazing upbringing with her dad... I imagine they lived this song too..PS.. Civic Theatre in Newcastle is a gorgeous 1920's movie palace of about 1500 seats.. saw many movies and rock concerts there in the 70s and 80s.. Boom Town Rats.. Ian Dury and the Blockheads... and our faculty rented out the basement for our annual architects fancy dress ball with the Skyhooks as our band for the night 6 weeks before they released "living in the Seventies" lots of amazing memories there.. ohh the acoustics is superb..
Love this version, your reactions were what I was waiting for, please more Australian music. From a half Welsh, half Kiwi, just lucky enough to be born in Australia.
This interpretation grows on me every time I listen to it, the forensic tracking and amplifying of the emotion of the original. I would love to see Marshall Bruce Mathers III's reaction this this. One would hope he would find it favourable... enjoy that someone has really mined the soul of this song and given it a different level of human authenticity. Loved sharing this moment with you two colourful and classy gents, whom I did not know existed, prior to this time spent together. Happy investigating. Cheers!
Kasey Chambers is an Australian legend: the youngest person to be inducted into the Australian Music Hall of Fame, a dozen albums and has more than 30 ARIA Awards (the AU Grammy's). She is beloved but is ignored by radio and was shunned by Sony. She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her brother is backing vocals and her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. She is now 48 years old and a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.
I love the video clip created for Not Pretty Enough, the visual combined with the song will bring you to tears it's so powerful and moving. Soooo glad I found her version of Lose Yourself - stunning and authentic
She's a gem. Check out ' Ain't no Little girl' - live at the Bluegrass caverns - just as much passion . Also John Butler Trio are a magic live group you haven't discovered. 'Better than' and 'Zebra' are the big hits - but anything live is just a joy to watch and be amazed by,
Had to watch this again just to watch how captivated you guys were it’s a bloody good choice of instrument and voice and take the original to the next level 😮
I was not an Eminem fan but I have been watching this on a number of review sites. I cant get tired of it and it makes me cry. Maybe because I finally heard the lyrics.
Thanks for doing this amazing version of Lose Yourself. I was one of those who requested it. I’m not a fan of country music, nor rap in general, but I do tend to like the lyrics Eminem writes. This song was out of my 62 year old comfort zone too, but it totally blew me away the first time I heard it.
Now that you've listened to Kasey, it's time for Sarah Blasko...it doesn't matter what track you pick...they're all good. But Sarah does do an amazing cover of Chisel's "Flame Trees".
Huge agree, here. Sarah a vastly underrated gem. Her duet (the original) with Gurrumul on Bayini is spine chilling and vastly superior to another version recorded later with a run of the mill warbler. Also, Sarah's solo material is sensational, the gorgeous "We Won't Run" is top tier.
@TheThamesmen 12 days on YT hiatus and you finally play 1 of my only 2 requested songs. Woo-TF-Hoo!! 😁👍... and cheers to all who requested this rendition by Kacey to help force your hand 👏👏👏 If it has not already been mentioned, Kacey has followed Eminem's work from his beginnings, and is a huge fan. She had always wanted to cover Lose Yourself, so took the opportunity during covid lockdowns to piece together her own special version. Glad you both got a kick out of it 😁
Thanks for doing this one! Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. Where else would you see banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! BTW….how was Lose Yourself for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar in Lose Yourself.
For me, the standout cherry on the cake to this performance is Kasey's dad on the lap steel guitar. It sounds soooo good. Hes a bit of a cool dude, just sitting there so chilled twanging away while everyone else around him is going nuts e.g the very animated keyboard player.
I’m not surprised Kasey has a big following. The “Dead Ringer Band” was pretty popular in the “Country Music” scene. She’s been performing her entire life. I recall her singing in Tamworth when she was just a little kid. The voice isn’t faked, that’s for certain. It’s always been very “different”. That’s the attraction I guess. Amazing to listen to her so many years later.
Ahhh, Kasey Chambers is largely neglected here in Australia (if you are not in the country music scene) but she has been a staple of country and festival music here for many years. Kasey's version of Lose Yourself shows that she can break the genre wall and step into arena style performances that will shatter expectations. This was simply mesmerizing. Kasey's hubby goes ok too. Wheel of For_Tune: Alice Cooper, I am going to love it.
Our Kasey may be classified as Country, but she's in a genre all of her own. Been fortunate enough to see her perform live 3 times. I was grinning in anticipation of your faces when she really kicked off. So glad you can appreciate another awesome Aussie talent.
Iam not a country fan but I have to give credit to a 47 year old woman who has the guts to take on a M&M classic and gives it her all. many would have choked in the attempt .
Aussie chicks rock (from an Aussie chick). Kasey is a unique, award winning artist that is able to cross musical boundaries effortlessly. You'd do yourself a favour by checking out other Aussie artists such as Matt Corby (Live on Triple J Like a Version), doing his own song "Brother", Tash Sultana, the Teskey Brothers, The Waifs ....just to name a few.
Thank you for this reaction, it's one of the more enjoyable reviews of this performance I've seen and really liked seeing your appreciation for Kacey's talents. Cheers guys 👍
Glad you did intro/ showstopper double bill... For me, this "Lose yourself" is a masterpiece in arrangement, beginning slow banjo, ( loneliness & melancholy) echoing an artists starting point, building to counterpoint guitar/ backing vocal, then on to success & the obligatory jam session, no holds barred instrument & vocal...
I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I'm about the same age as you guys and just love the banter, it's wonderful. Came across your channel from a Ren video but saw this Kasey Chambers video and was shocked. Before RUclips I used to collect live music, although I don't still have that collection, there are a dozen or so shows I used to have that I greatly wished I still did so I could post them on RUclips and Kasey Chambers from the Metro in Sydney in 2001 was one of those shows. Along with "Not Pretty Enough" in that show but it also had some very interesting stories about growing up in the back of a truck in the Australian Outback.
Oh Kasey, you are still the ONE. You have amazed me since that night in Canberra - was it 20-25 years ago? You carried the night, carried my soul away. You never disappoint in any way.
Headbanging, while playing a banjo, to a rap song...Wow!
It is a crazy combination that just works!

Exactly. Amazing writing when you listen
I’m not really much. Of a country music person, but kasey is great..
I have seen her live, she’s very talented.
Hands down the best cover of anything I've ever heard! Next one? "Ain't no little Girl". Live or recorded, I can't decide which is better.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Sarah Blasko reaction. It’s probably way past time there was one. Seconded.
Sarah does a wonderful cover of Bowie's Life on Mars.
@TheThamesmen
12 days on YT hiatus and you finally play 1 of my only 2 requested songs.
Woo-TF-Hoo!! 😁👍... and cheers to all who requested this rendition by Kacey to help force your hand 👏👏👏
If it has not already been mentioned, Kacey has followed Eminem's work from his beginnings, and is a huge fan. She had always wanted to cover Lose Yourself, so took the opportunity during covid lockdowns to piece together her own special version.
Glad you both got a kick out of it 😁
This performance is going straight to the poolroom, eh Alex?
I’ve been waiting for you guys to do this…so good 😉
Blows my mind every time! ❤ apparently Kasey is a huge fan of Eminem as a lyricist.
For me, the standout cherry on the cake to this performance is Kasey's dad on the lap steel guitar. It sounds soooo good. Hes a bit of a cool dude, just sitting there so chilled twanging away while everyone else around him is going nuts e.g the very animated keyboard player.
Okay. Wow. An enormous performance by Kasey Chambers. Keep presenting stuff like this gents. Love it.
Been following her since the Nineties, and that shocked me in a good way.
To put it succinctly fellows - She is mesmerising. I have seen her live at least 20 times now and she NEVER lets me down.
Listen to Kasey singing "Pony" official video She's Aussie 🇦🇺 royalty ❤
We adore her ❤❤
Aussie chicks rock (from an Aussie chick).
Cool, thanks!
That Lose Yourself cover is remarkable. I’ve seen that clip a few times now and it always kills.
So happy we finally listened and took the plunge. Amazing performance
WOW just epic
Glad you're giving Kasey a spin. Always get Janis Joplin vibes from her version of Lose Yourself.
'The Captain' is probably my favourite Kasey C song. 👍
After the first track I wasn’t sure if I wanted to hear more. But I’m glad I stayed. Now I love this banjo-playing volcano-woman.
I guess I’ve learned that volcano women can lie dormant for 25 - 30 years, then suddenly ERUPT!!!
I love watching reactions to this song. People are gobsmacked. Just love this version.
Well, heck! Glad you got around to this gold, old friend!
Isn't she just bloody fantastic! We're truly blessed here in Australia!
Oh Kasey, you are still the ONE. You have amazed me since that night in Canberra - was it 20-25 years ago? You carried the night, carried my soul away. You never disappoint in any way.
Kasey Chambers …… what an amazing talent !!! Eminem and Kasey Chambers ?????………… blew my socks off 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
