Nothing more beautiful than to be able to take care of something so special. It's almost like taking care of a human child in the way that it is totally dependant on you. There is no greater feeling. To look into its eyes and know that it trusts you implicitly. So pure and innocent. Makes a person s eyes fill with tears of joy.
Yes but I am not sure if you have seen all the videos of this poor baby or if you can tell from this video but he does not completely trust her or any of the other numerous people that "care" for him. If you are familiar with this zoo and this particular program you will know that this zoo pulls different newborn primates (and other species as well though I am more familiar with the primates..but they have also pulled baby tigers I know specifically), baby orangutans, baby chimps, baby gibbons, baby baboons, baby macaques, etc. and they will have no reason to remove them from their mothers other than they place them in a section of the zoo that is known as the "Children's Zoo" and they charge extra admission to see these exhibits. It is all infant animals that have been removed from their mothers and other conspecifics and are usually placed alone in a room like this baby is. They are left alone for the most part and people enter to feed them and clean up after them and sometimes stay awhile and play with them but for the majority of the time they are alone. It draws a lot of visitors because they get an opportunity to see the babies up close and them interacting with humans and playing with baby toys, drinking a baby bottle, etc. The problem is they do not develop normally and are extremely unhappy and lonely and can never be returned to live a normal life with their own kind. The zoo has been known to sell the animals to private parties after they are too old to keep in this section any longer..a few have been euthanized for their own good so they say. It is horribly sad and hard to believe that it still goes on in a major facility like this. Of course this is the same zoo that has been known to have animals mistakenly classified as a totally different animal and species for years and as a result were feeding and caring for them completely incorrectly until it was discovered by a team that had come in to do some research!!

I think it's in Thailand, but I'm not sure. Do you know? Do you also know if this zoo is still doing this now, in 2021? I don't know how we, as humans, can change this horrible practice but somehow these babies need to be spared of a life like this. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I thought this was a rehab but I should have known better by the sound of spectators.
Watching the ending of this video makes me so happy to watch a special bond build between the orangutang and caregiver just like it would have from its own mother in the wild. These caregivers are very special.
He is just so happy to have someone in there right now..he is left alone by himself in that exhibit the majority of the day. He has many, many different caregivers though she is one of the few that actually acted like she halfway cared about this little guy. It was a horrible situation.

It looks to me as if that little guy is famished. Infant orangs nurse mom any time they want.. This baby drank that bottle as if it hadn't been fed enough. Just an observation, but it may also be a little milk pig.....
If she's wearing a coat why doesn't he have at least a towel or blanket? In the wild neither one would but the mother orang would sense(feel) that and go somewhere where they would be warmer.
This lady has the BEST JOB EVER!!! I would give ANYTHING to take care of a baby orangutan... and she's doing a great job too :-) I only wish that she would be wearing something fuzzy or fuzzy-like for the baby to grip. All in all, that's my dream job!!! *sigh*
Perhaps you should ask how she got this BEST JOB EVER. Zoos and rehab organizations do this in house, and in the company of many other baby orphans who spend time together. She IS loving and patient but does not provide near enough enrichment, travel to exercise parks or places where these great apes can see their own kind. Clearly she loves them and has set up as good an environment as possible, but they spend way too much time in bed instead of climbing, exploring, being mentally and physically challenged... I think there is no way these primates are being prepared for reintroduction, and therefore I suspect they are black market, being acclimated for humans in the entertainment industies, film,mstage, zoos, circuses, carnivals etc.They are NOT native to Korea. And who would not want precisely this job, the chance for mothering the most precious primates in the world? I think these are black market babies. I hope I am wrong.
I agree on your lack of enrichment point.. At one time the sweet little guy even tried to reach out for a rag to play with and she quickly takes it and puts it out of reach... I didn't understand her reasoning for that. The baby should definitely be playing and climbing and exploring. I sure hope the babies aren't black market either!! Where are the early infant videos like this one of the baby orangutan seen in SBS Culture TV who cannot walk but drags itself across the floor while the baby chimp hits, bites, and attacks it? Also I notice that you are wearing a coat and you keep blowing into the baby's hands. Since she normally lives in an equatorial rain forest with VERY hot temperatures year round of 100-115 degrees F a day, is the baby warm enough without a coat of her own? And since she is obviously ready for solid foods, and explores so much with her mouth, since she can't eat a baby blanket, is she allowed to climb trees, swing from ropes, taste leaves and flowers and fruits, and tumble around in an outdoor setting with others her age? Those would be really super awesome videos! But I am sad for the other one, who is so darling, but who cannot sit up or walk! It would be great to see how her physical therapy is coming along since she just captures everyone's hearts! Wish we could help her!

They're at Seoul national zoo. His mom stopped producing milk so the baby was under temporary care by zoo care givers and he eventually meets up with his mom. Since his mom was also raised by zoo specialists she's lacking some caring knowledges from her mom I guess.
