I dig the style of the video. I think you might have hit a niche on using the camera in full auto mode. While most hardcore Fuji users won’t care about this, there are a ton of people that bought the x100v/vi and are doing just that. So more about recipes and in full auto would be best. What screws up my images most of the time is that a lot of pics with friends always come out with too dark/orange skin tone. So maybe recipes around taking good pics of people is something I haven’t seen yet.
Great & honest points. I original used a 1957 Voigtlander Vito B my dad have me. After retiring I bought a Leica CL with 4 lenses. Then I added a X100V. Ended up selling the both and got a Leica Q2. I bought the X100VI a few weeks ago and love it especially with the stabilization.
Nick, I love your straight forward approachable style. Yes, Iʻd like to hear more about how you use that camera. Iʻve been thinking I need a "carry" camera for some time.
I too was lucky to get a vi (in black) on day one in the UK (28 Feb 24). My first X100 camera, although I do use the Fuji system. Took it skiing to Switzerland in March and have used it since for hiking and family days out. If there is one word that sums up this camera for me it is - fun.
I like the information about the flash since I have been looking to get into that at some point. On the fence with regards to the Sony A7iv. My Canon R50 with the 35 1.8 is always on hand.
I also love the jpegs Fujifilm puts out. It sounds counter-intuitive but it is the reason I shoot raw only. I just double tap the Q button to flip any keepers into jpegs or if it's a particularly good shot (or I messed something up) I'll go to town on it editing it in -camera. I also do multiple edits of shots I like (bw, different wb etc). Now the only jpegs on the card are keepers which make pinging them all to my phone super simple (select all then ping). Cropping, levelling and very minor tweaks I do in Snapseed. I've never been a fan of hyper-edited pictures and once I just accepted that I can't really edit a picture better than Fuji makes a jpeg life became a lot easier.
I would really like to see more of your portrait photography with your minimalist kit; the Fuji with the 50mm tele-conversion lens and the Profoto flash. Something similar to the portraits you made in Ecuador. Thanks for the great videos.
Thanks for sharing! After watching your kit video, I would love to hear about and see how you use those lens teleconverters you showed. I'm curious if they are just as good as having an interchangeable lens body. I now shoot with an X-T3 which I've had for several years and really like. But, I've been wondering if something even smaller would be nice. Now, getting an X100 series might be a bit difficult, but I was wondering how one of the XE series cameras might compare since I already have a few lenses. I also do lots of hiking with my X-T3 and love using it. Just thought it might be cool to have an even smaller body to carry everywhere. Thanks again for your info!
Planning to do a video about the teleconverters! They add a ton of versatility to the x100. Not sure if they’re a total replacement to an interchangeable lens kit but they are fun!
great video. I can agree to everything. This camera makes me also fall in love with photography again 🙂 One question: you assigned a button for marking a photo to transfer it the the phone. I didn't found that option. Could you explain in detail what you have done? Once again, thanks for that video!
Nice video, gorgeous images. I found the same thing, which was my goal: bring back the simple fun of photography and disconnect from the “process” of editing. Thanks for sharing!
Hope the x100vi gets you out shooting more! It's a fun little camera. Took me a while to get all my settings and film sims set but now it's such an easy camera to grab and shoot.
Loved the video, I got the X-T5 since it was impossible to get the x100. But I'm new to photography so maybe it was a good thing. The x100 sure is a beauty though 😍 Whats your fav recipes/film sims?
Yea, it's a tough camera to find but I've heard good things about all of Fuji's cameras. I have plans for a video about the recipes I use on my camera!
That’s a camera I was looking at before I got my hands on the x100. I do love being able to shoot so much more and not worry about editing or even sharing. Just shoot for the joy of it.
I've shot with and owned the X100S, X100T and X100F. Everything you've described about the experience of owning one of these cameras has been mine experience as well. I regretted selling the X100F, but it was to fund another hobby. Since then I've added a Niikon Z fc with 24 prime to get that feeling again. It's not 100% the same, but for half the price of the current market value of the X100V/VI cameras, it's all I want.
I've liked the camera Nikon has been putting out lately. I started with Nikon, moved to Sony when all my Nikon gear fell in a lake. Glad that camera's serving you well!
It's interesting that you shoot the VI in full auto, i have the V and never do that, I'm strictly a hobbyist but must try that sometime. I agree on the aesthetics of the camera, it's a thing of beauty.
I've always shot my cameras in manual or aperture priority, but one of the friends that talked me into this camera said he shoots full auto and just adjusts the exposure comp. dial. I started shooting this camera on manual then slowly just gave the camera more and more control and still ended up happy with the images. Even in tough lighting scenes it seems to make some going choices. Give it a try on your V! P.S. When I'm using strobes I go back to full manual control.
It’s a nice little toy. An expensive toy that is. But….. I enjoy it too. Now all our pics look the same. Looking forward to seeing more videos on this camera. TFS 🙏
I wonder if the viewfinder is just what it is, a viewfinder or is there technology inside that makes it an EVF? If so I couldn't comprehend how they do it as they have to black out the normal viewfinder for it?
It is both. Pretty incredible actually the optical finder has frame lines and shows your focus box, and can show other info if desired but I like mine clean and mostly empty. And you can hit a button and an evf slides into place.
After a 4 months waiting period, I finally got mine. Black. I also bought the lens hood and a half leather casing. Set the basic stuff, put it on Automatic, all over, and went out shooting. Something marvellous just happened: FUN, JOY of shooting was back!!! The images have lots of detail, even against the sun. I love your honest and the Meat & Potatoes approach on your video. I'll resume my experience and my $$$ tag: MONEY WELL SPENT. Keep on sharing!!
Don't know what it's like in you country, but here in Poland I cancelled my preorder ages ago, and then was just looking at store stock. Every now and again, a store gets 1 or 2 and does not have preorders. I got mine a month ago (but I did order like an hour after they put it in stock)

That is lucky! My local shop said their preorder list was over 250 people and they got 16 cameras at launch.
Loved the video. I would like to see some film simulation ideas. Some ideas to kick start creativity.

Congratulation Nick! I've waited for this Camera every day for 6 months. And I'm still waiting. So I have to shoot with my beloved X100F.
