- On May 6th 1930, farmer Wilf Batty heard a disturbance at his chicken coop on his family's farm in Mawbanna, Tasmania. Little did he know his actions would become a key moment in the story of the Tasmanian Tiger.

The fact I’ll never be able to see this beautiful animal in person forever haunts me, I just hope maybe a small number of them were able to survive.
I have hope some still live in some of Tasmania's remote forests. Some parts of them have never been explored.

My great uncle wrote a letter to his wife in 1972 stating he had witnessed a thylacine eating a dead wallaby on a riverbank in the hinterland of Tasmania, and he described it perfectly as one. He said it had a striped lower back with a strangely shaped head and a very sturdy tail that hardly moved at all.
He described its eating habits as peculiar, saying it targeted the rear end of the wallaby and ate its insides through the orifices there. He was not sure if it had killed the wallaby or not, because he came upon it as it was feeding.
He said it the “tiger” (as he called it) was trying to drag the animal back into the forest away from the river, and that it saw him. He said it had blood on its face but it was indeed a tiger.
This was extremely rural Tasmania, in the far western forests of the island up river from a town on the West coast (forgive me i’ve forgotten the name of it) where he had stopped to explore on a sailing journey from Port Philip Bay.
I absolutely believe his account and believe that these animals were at least alive into the 1970s, which means there is a relatively high likelihood that they still exist in the wild today. There have been numerous reports of locals in Papua New Guinea owning them as pets in the dense forests of that island, too. I believe they are still alive in Papua New Guinea and Tasmania and that they will be rediscovered in the next few years.
So a few might have gone further back into the wilderness flee from man, and I don’t just mean the Maoris either.

When I first heard about these guys I though "No, impossible those guys don't look real" . Then when I was the photos and especially the famous footage of the animal, I completely accepted the animal's existence. Most helpful; the Wild Kratts Thylacine episode, an episode about
these legendary and bizarre creatures; with their dog-like appearance and their stripes.
They're literally one of the coolest creatures I've ever seen,I've heard some awesome details about these guys.
Like:
🌟They're known by many names; Thylacine, Tasmanian tiger, and Tasmanian wolf 🐺
🌟Despite their names, they're actually marsupials. So they're actually related to the Tasmanian Devil not the tiger 🐅
🌟They're known to have the widest mouth gape of any mammal alive, scientists are puzzled about their unnatural talent. Their hypotheses: Its gonna attack or the most common answer; it's tired.
🌟Like other tiger species, each Tasmanian tiger has its own unique stripe pattern.
🌟The reason they were eradicated due to misunderstanding, Tasmanian farmers thought they were dangerous and so they hunted them toward extinction.
🌟Luckily, there were 0 human fatalities so they rather flee from a human than attack. Also they were a nuisance to farmers for hunting livestock like sheep 🐑
🌟These guys are carnivorous predators; they diet consists of marsupials like such as kangaroos,wallabies, wombats, along with birds like emus. Also mammals like bandicoots,rats, including livestock like sheep 🐑
🌟HOWEVER! scientists have hypothesized about bring back the animal though stem cell research; extracting the stem cells of today's marsupials (kangaroo/koala/especially the Tasmanian Devil).
They're able 2 change those cells to Thylacine cells and therefore bring back the extinct carnivorous marsupial

I live in Tasmania and have grown so attached to the Tasmanian Tiger that I even have an idea for a fossil Pokemon based on it where it was a Normal/Dark type with the ability Strong Jaws.
Tasmanian devils and thylacines might easily take on hyenas in a fighting situation.
the saddest part is that it was so close to escaping the fence was just an inch away from the tiger. Rest in peace

@@therock6943 no, this is the one time I feel bad for the human, most likely didn’t know this was the last thylacine, and he wasn’t gonna just sit there and let his chickens die right in front of him, and even if he didn’t know, the thylacine would keep coming back and coming back and if the farmer still didn’t know, it would be likely the dog would be outside and would’ve killed the thylacine, animals, when they know there’s food in the area, keep coming back for more, he was eventually gonna get killed no matter what, chickens also have feelings too, no more animals leads to no more money, which would lead to them starving, back then there weren’t a lot of other options for jobs to my knowledge, and now in the modern day, switching between jobs is easy now, even in a 3rd world country you’d probably have the money to move on from raising cattle, sheep, goats, chickens etc, this is the one time I feel bad for the human too. I would feel 0 sympathy for that man though if he just killed it when it had no interest in his animals just to “protect them”

@@reynaldoflores4522 he didn’t know it was the last one, if he knew maybe he would’ve caught it and released it somewhere else, but either way he wasn’t gonna let his chickens die, he can sell them, their meat, or their eggs for money, and he can eat them himself, it’s the same with coyotes today, your not just gonna sit by and watch as a coyote pack kills all your cow calves, sheep, and chickens because “Is a lil pupper and I don’t wanna hurt it!” That’s a stupid decision financially and could get you and your family broke if they stuck with farming, those aren’t just a few worthless chickens, that’s his whole career and life on the line it’s either his or the thylacine’s (or neither if he had the right catch and release equipment)

I wish I could go back and tell this man what impact that shot had. Not to hate him, after all he had no idea what would come of it. Even if that creature survived our world would still be silent of the Thylacine. It is truly a tragedy they don’t walk the earth anymore, but they are like a setting sun that had nightfall to early.

Hmm, I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Because there has “have” been unconfirmed sightings of those Large Marsupial Dogs. Who knows? Maybe the Thylacine AKA Tasmanian Tiger Wolf might still be around. Either in Tasmania or Mainland Australia.
I live in Tasmania and I can comfirm the west coast is very dense bushlands and not many people go up that way so it is a possibility

It's important to note, Thylacine was endangered for a long time now, only surviving in Tasmania, an island with no Dingoes!
The introduction of Canids in Australia is attributed to thylacine and Tasmanian devils extinction in Australia, human population today and in the past is far too small to cover the extinction of the marsupials in the massive territory that is Australia, even today most of Australia is uninhabited by man!
Canids, on the other hand, spread and out competed the marsupials. The same thing happened in south America when carnivorans were introduced 3 million years ago when the continents collided and connected.
4 sightings in Victoria already this year in Gippsland 3 and 1 in Mt Macedon. Thousands all up on the mainland across every state and territory.
Many scientists and civilians want them reclassified as endangered. They are masters of camoflauge and are scared of humans keeping well away from us but they do slip up.
When you listen to the older generation, you start to understand that people kept quiet about their whereabouts because they loved animals etc. and seeing so many killed kept people quiet.
Also Benjamin the last one in the footage was a pet donated to the Horbart zoo. When it died they said it was the last one alive.
Strangely enough people kept feeding them and seeing them until their own deaths. They are also still seen quiet alot in the N.E of Tasmania as well as the other parts.
People are now keeping quiet and have been for a very long time. Some people said that they are breeding so there must be still a lot about.
Thousands of people can't be wrong and some of the people are farmers, hunters, zoologists, scientists, cryptozoologists, Aborigines and civilian people.

I always loved animals and dinosaurs and still do today, and I miss these creatures. When I was younger my great grandma would tell me about these animals when she was a kid. She was born in the 1920s so she lived when there were still a few of these. She told me that she still believes there are some out there waiting, making homes in caves and river banks until they can return back to Living their old way. She told me we can only hope that someday people can co exist with these miraculous animals.

It's possible we might be able to bring them back, but personally I think they should be left alone. We know very little about their environmental and feeding requirements, and any cloned individuals would probably spend their life being examined in captivity

I feel so sick. Looking at this is just an animal trying to survive and live a life. People say there even monsters. But sadly...Humans are the real monsters. We kill these animals for what? Sport? Food? Just for something to do? And what do we really get out in the end. Death. Then we move on to another animal to kill off...I hope all humans smarten up and learn from there mistakes. Holy shit, I was just thinking to go on RUclips and see if anyone made a new video on Tasmania tigers. And what do you know, someone did!. Thanks so much for making this video. It was emotional to see this video , and I don't blame blatty for not knowing that the thylacine, was close to extinction. I am from the USA, and admire marsupials like the devil, and was excited to find out that there was a bigger predator than the devil on Tasmania. It such a shame this happened. I hope one day I could go to tasmiana and learn more about these animals. I even had a Tasmania tiger plush that I own. Even though it a slim chance, I hope the thylacine is still out there.
Good to know someone else shares my thoughts about Batty. A lot of people think of him as the guy who cruel heartedly finished off the species. Given the culture at the time, he was doing what any sane farmer would have
Dane Pavitt that true, I agree fully. I forgot what video it was, but there a short documentary about someone asking batty, when he was old, if he regretted killing the Tasmania tiger he saw. And batty answers with some other things I don't remember.

The first time I ever heard of a Thylacine it was in a sticker book I got as a gift from one of my grade school teachers. I was 7. I am 39 now, soon to be 40. To have had it close to heart for 32 years has been both an honour and a heartbreak because it sparked in me a passion to want to conserve wildlife and care for what I could care for from a very early age. If we could only have done something is the all-to-often hindsight we as human beings have when it comes to endangered and threatened wildlife. If we were the last of our kind I think we would definitely want to be saved from extinction. I believe they are still out there in the wild, alive and in hiding and the people lucky enough to have had sightings have without a shadow of a doubt known what they have seen and stand by their convictions. I would love to go to Australia or Tasmania to have the chance to potentially see one with my own eyes.

There are a number of scientific specimens in jars at certain university research facilities from which DNA can easily be gathered for the purpose of cloning.

My Great Grandpa knew about these animals, saw them out in the wilds on his farm, he said he only shot 1 in his life, and whenever he saw another, he would feel bad, because he was very bad at killing animals, so he scared them away, instead of killing them. Well, I wish everyone did the same as my Great Grandpa, but there already extinct.

Cows have been farmed for meat for thousands of years, why should we change our way of life now. I'm not saying it's bad to be vegan, you should be allowed to eat whatever you want, but I don't think converting a couple of people to veganism is the best way to save endangered animals

If you only «help» the animals, you are giving more reasons to farmers to become poachers, cause they would be alone and take justice by his own way. Then, even if you put guards in every corner of the forest, those animals would be endangered forever.

Just think about all the space it needs to plant greengrocers, fruits, and other products. Also, you have to kill insects and animals in order they don't eat them.
And besides, much species of animals would disappear when they aren't used by humans (think about donkeys).

Not proud of it but that’s my 2nd great uncle holding a dead Tasmanian tiger in his arms not this specific one in the video. He actually did try to avoid most times to grabbing his rifle but these guys ripped through fences with every chance they got and killed farmers stock. With jeopardising income and the tigers not long before their extinction had bounties on their heads, soon leading to 1 living one which is in this video.

Poor thylacine😭😭😭, but scienceists says: "In 2027 we can back thylacine from extinction" , but i think thylacine is alive because there is a shot of thylacine dissapearing into the bushes and many people often come across traces of thylacine or allegedly see it alive. I'am very happy for this because this is a one of the my favourite extinct animal which was allegedly exterminated by man
