I know a lot of GO4 fans think this their "sellout" song, but I've personally loved this track since it came out in the 80s - it still has that signature tension, but now in a slick, funky, Chic-inspired context. It's alriiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
Mike Weber, a DJ I slept with who hosted college radio The Edge 92 in East Lansing at Michigan State University played this and dedicated it to me one night in 1994 when I was at my Apartment listening - magical memory - I think he moved to Chicago when I graduated MSU in 1995. If you are out there reading this, hello Mike. He would take me into the studio with him to watch him at work - he was great :)
I used to mix this cut live with all vinyl versions to extend Gill's harmonics riffs, which were only a natural extension, for him, of what he’d done before. I recall Rolling Stone or somesuch complaining that the GO4 sound had been "sandbagged" on Hard by its producers. Were you listening? With Hard GO4 was liberated from its own rut.
I know the die hards hate this song/album but this really is an amazing song (and decent album). Love the earlier GO4 stuff but this stands up as well as anything they did!!
This version is The Only Version! Thanks for the memories: WLIR & the RITZ NYC…

One of my all time favorit … unbelieveable track 👍
The guitar solo is so crucial! Like a liquid laser cutting the night sky in half. Can't believe it was found expendable for the album version.
seen these guys at 6 flags magic mountain in late 80's early 90's can't remember in the newly established Santa Clarita. great band
I had this disc.
Great track. Good for late night driving. Reminds me of past loves too.
Schoner Classic.........................!!!!!!!
Always misheard 'but I was drunk too' back in the day. Huge fave.
😄
Brilliant. Far superior to the album version and the single edit. One of my favourite 12 inch records.
same ❤
It's alright, it's alright, it's, it's... it's aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalright... 🎶🎶
I love this part.
It's hard to stay mad at them for selling out when the song's so good.
Such a sweet extended mix. Her voice is absolutely lovely.
Gorgeous singer love love this song!!!!!

Yes, this isn't bad. But the Gang of Four of Entertainment/Solid Gold is SO GOOD.
No, this is way better.
This song was so cool that the first time I heard it was in 1990 and I thought it was brand new
