Rest in peace to Andy Gill. I discovered Gang of Four late, but better late than never. They have a phenomenal sound! “Is it love” is my favorite song by Gang of Four and EASILY makes my 80’s top 5 (especially for New Wave).
It might be that the GO4 purists turned on them, upon the release of this album and the new sound. I still think Hard is fantastic from start to finish! 🖤
My friend a 16 yr old punk rock girl turned me onto this song when it first came out. I was 19 at the time. She was so cool and loved to dance. What a funky jam. That's funk with a twist. But still funk. The guitars are amazing.
I remember first seeing this video in Chicago's pioneer video bar, Berlin, on Belmont N side of Chicago. Circa '84? Berlin then was a tiny slit of a bar but had the best videos. For those of us who didn't have cable (meaning no MTV). Thanks Andy for the music you gave us.
I realize your comment is several years old...did you know that Berlin JUST closed its doors--permanently--about a week ago? The reason they closed is pretty gross, too: apparently they don't like paying their employees anything near a living wage. (Someone should tell them to schlep it 90 mins north and reopen in Milwaukee, lol, they'd be just fine. Minimum wage is still $7.25/hr in Wisconsin.)
Soo Good !!..I feel so fortunate to have danced to this so many times in San Diego alternative clubs in the 80's..now dancing to it on my Lanai by the Sea in Hawaii in 2020. xoxo to you All.
RIP Andy Gill. But C'mon GoF - Pipitch had the best upload and bio of this song. BTW - Who is the female vocalist on this? "It's alright, it's alright, it's aaaaaaallll right.."!
@@omcf- Yeah,.. i googled it until i found her and then hit her up on Facebook. When I excitedly asked whether it was her she nonchalantly replied, "Oh.... Yes it is.".
Wow, its been awhile since I've seen this... pretty hilarious to see the GOF trying to be the Human League or Heaven 17... but that's where we were in this period... this record made sense at the time in contrast to what had come before... now it makes NO sense at all! That's the beauty of pop...
I am 70 years old
in 2o23 & I love
GangOfFour !!!!
congrats! What a wonderful time to be young and alive!! I miss it.
This will always be my favorite Gang of Four record of all time. Sara Lee’s bass playing on this record is incredible.
She didn't play on this one though. It was session bassist. He played on three other tracks on the album too.
@@bent2 she is credited as bassist on this record and on the cover of the record.
This track is 🔥.
R.I.P Andy Gill🖤Gratidão 🙏🏼 pelo seu trabalho no Gang of four!!!
Great bit of German Expressionism
This song always felt very Human League to me. Loved it.
Jon's vocals sound very Phil Oakey'ish....

Featuring Alfa Anderson of legendary band CHIC on female vocals.
All good things must come to an end. This one was wildly premature.
E a trilha sonora perfeita 🎧🎶🎼🎤🎸
R.I.P. Andy Gill.
😭
it's totally appropriate they got Chic's Alfa Anderson for this song because you can tell the whole song is a tribute to Chic music.
Please explain your tribute to Chic... There's not a single element that refers to Chic in that track.
Classic❤
Put me in a time machine and send me back to the 80's please thank you!
Absolutely Yes!! The Music Industry back then was a goldmine.
Yes!!!
I LOVE this song. Surprised at how few have been here. Is it possible that so few are familiar with this choon?
It might be that the GO4 purists turned on them, upon the release of this album and the new sound. I still think Hard is fantastic from start to finish! 🖤
Nah, someone else had uploaded it before GoF.
Their upload had LOTS of views
its a top song
Choon?
totally under rated ..

Other songs on the album are just as funky, especially Arabic, I Fled and It Don't Matter.
Casi me hace llorar la voz de la cantante mucho sentimiento ya no falta nada para que cumpla sus 42 años
Perfekt feeling ❤
Simplesmente visceral🎶🎸🎙🎶
Anos80 que saudades.
One of my favorite GOF albums!
Rest In Peace Andy Gill.
Amazing singer towards the ending how is she hitting those notes!? It's like an Angel coming down to kick some A**
It would have been one of these singers: Alfa Anderson, Brenda White King. I'm not sure which one.
I smell something FUNKY 😊
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Gang of Four had the FUNK! #RIP Andy Gill
Yes. Hillel Slovak said that Andy Gill was his favourite guitarist in the world. You can hear how the early rhcp took inspiration from go4
Love it. This may be the only Gang of Four track that works in a dance club type mix.
Maybe also I Fled.
That young Bill O'reilly has some rithym despite the constipated look on his face😊
RIP Mr.Andy Gill (64)
F yeah... so funky it hurts

My all time favorite song
Great sound..Great dance track.
To me one of the best bands to come out of the post punk era. I’m pretty sure the video is heavily edited to minimize Jon Kings dance moves though.

Were you at Club Zu too?
Banger
Forgot about the MTV years. I was a fan earlier. Still cool
Gang of Four go pop
i veri gang of four sono un'altra cosa
HD VERSION PLEASE!
Is really amazing... Music
Great Song Great Video. ~~
Had such a crush on the black girl in this video back in the 80's. (sigh)
I think it may be Gillian de Terville.
@ 3:18
Already a great song but similar to the soulful part of Heaven 17's "Temptation" she kills it.
@@johnstjohn6658 Gillian de Terville of course also appeared in the Temptation video, although the real singer was Carol Kenyon.
Had this on 12”. Thought it was quite an interesting sound. I was 17
Ça fût un vrai détour mais toujours impecables
''I forgot what I was trying to remember''
If White Rabbit can lead to Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now, I can accept Anthrax coming to this.
✨🙏✨

Right!!?? I get visions of a battle in Heaven when she hits those notes, so AWESOME, so beautiful!
Towards the ending Gang of Four are looking at her like, ' Dammmm, she's got an amazing voice'. I'd say very angelic.🙌
Alfa Anderson (Chic)
@@omcf- Yeah,.. i googled it until i found her and then hit her up on Facebook. When I excitedly asked whether it was her she nonchalantly replied, "Oh.... Yes it is.".
@@omcf- And she recently passed. After reading your comment I looked her up on Facebook and she took the time to reply.
Sounds more like Heaven 17
Who sang the "It's alright, It's alright, It's aaaaaaallright" part on this.
It DOES kind-of remind me of the backup singer in H17's "Temptation".
@@johnstjohn6658 I was thinking the same thing.
@@johnstjohn6658 Some say she is Alfa Anderson (Chic) and not Carol Kenyon (Heaven 17, Paul Hardcastle)
never ending cool 😎.. and then there was Shriekback who shared 1 or 2 members. kitschy early 80s funkternative gold!
Kitschy??? Nah ...pure class
Unbelieveably fast they've sunk down to the money-music back those days. I will always love their first two albums
👍🥰🌟

Buen tema pero el vocalista se fue a otro plAnetA. A cantar.
Capitalism🤮
great group!!! ugly album!!!!!!
They were experimenting with New Wave music in 1983.
Awful song and video. R.I.P. Andy Gill but you really lost the plot on this album.
