Shot in a disused warehouse in Wardour Street London, March 1983. Filmed by Howard Guard (who also directed the iconic Maxell tape advertisements), the end sequence of the band asleep in the back of the limousine was, according to Guard, very much for real. Finally wrapped up as dawn was breaking through. Poignant message with the scattered sleeves....single taken from the album Burning From The Inside.

I will always and forever feel very lucky to have been a teenager in the 80's. I was a huge Bauhaus fan.
I feel lucky just by being able to appreciate their music now. perhaps I won't ever do it in the manner you did but this music is ageless and it will be passed on to many generations
+RetroJoe Did you ever get to see them in concert? I feel like that would have been so cool.
Never did. 😕
RetroJoe Ditto. That and taking too much LSD whilst listening to their b-sides! :S
BTW: Are you interested in buying Kevin's new book? JFC: He's asking $195 U.S. (Not including shipping for something that's 13 lbs)!!! It's like "Do I pay bills - - or do I buy this book?"
Me too . Amen !
WHERE THE FUCK HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY FUCKING LIFE
Hiding under your bed

In parties!
@@bridgettebutler624 I am not authorized to award anything. But If I get it. Authorization? I'll send a certificate for best remark to this question. Which oddly enough won a different award I am not going to be mean. I'M IN PARTIES like the girl Eddie. Peters brother? was talking about all the Time.
It was here.where were you?😅
*whispers into the wind* never forget Peter Murphy's cheek bones.
Kris Smith never forget 🤘🏻
Pete Murphy looks like an actual skull himself he doesn't need makeup...he's the mask i want for next Halloween.🎃🕯️💀⚰️
okay, no one can argue with that
They should be registered as deadly weapons IMO
@@LeDisGoFreak77 he needs a sandwich.
Remembering when I heard this, thinking this was the *coolest* thing ever recorded.
Because it is.
This song is great, but In my opinion Bauhaus masterpiece is Bella Lugosi’s dead … way beyond its time
It still is.
coz it is? da fuq
@Hunter Vonnegut tip 1: underground bands never tell anyone they are underground
I used to get ready to go out at night to this song, on my “getting ready for the club” mix on cassette. Also on that cassette was the cure:close to me, the cult: she sells sanctuary, Siouxsie and the banshees: spellbound, and a bunch of other stuff. Still love this song, and I go see Peter and/or Bauhaus as often as possible.
i wish wecould have dated back then. that mix tape is soundtrack of my high school late nights in LA.
@@someguythatlookslikeme8306 I also live in L.A., although I didn’t move here until I was 20, but used to go to Helter Skelter, scream, club fuck, dragonfly, etc. and go to shows up and down sunset.
Which version of Close To Me - the one on The Head On The Door or the 7" single remix released September 1985? The latter has the creaking door at the start and the brass section. Sounds like a great mixtape, I had something similar.
in the 80´s ?
@@xvbiffbangpow8579 yes, I am 54
I went into my normal lunch spot located in the downtown area of a normal, Southern California city. There he was: a tall, slender, pale red headed man . He wore tortoishel sunglasses, a dark tweed trench coat and ankle boots. No one noticed the guy but me. I carefully approached trying not to bother him but I couldn't resist. "Are you David J?". "Yes" he answered in a light, low voice. He got his coffee right then. I proceeded to geek out, telling him that I was a lifelong Bauhaus, Love and Rockets and Tones on Tails fan. He thanked me very graciously as if it wasn't as the first time anyone had recognized in public. Clearly no one had that day and maybe it makes sense but I'm glad I did.
Angeleno here. What was he doing in Downtown L.A.?
He was thinking “I wasn’t in Tones on Tail, but thanks anyway.” 😂 I met him back in ‘95. He signed my brother’s dollar bill and then started burning it.
🎉❤ WOW yowZA😮
I seen him twice in southern California
Miss dark 80's . Best music decade , best parties ever . miss that era
Right, it's my 18/20.....what good music at this time... class, new, and black and vampire romantisme.....all was possible and we were beautiful.....Londons was destroy but so much more fun.....
Dark 80s is the best 80s.
Dark Wave.
yeah I miss those days.. I used to live in Europe during my teens... what years
As far as music goes the 80's was probably the bravest when it came to musical experimentation and subject matter. The whole decade was a floodgate.
I am from Portugal,50 years...they and the cure, the greatest bands of the 80s and the post punk...
The definitive goth band. Peter Murphy is seriously the coolest.
Birthday party my mate Melbourne
Rozz & sisters of mercy
I saw Peter Murphy touring maybe ten years ago. After the show, he was brooding in the tour bus with no lights on smoking a cigarette in the dark before he came out to do the meet and greet. I like thinking he's never changed.
maybe only Ian can beat him imho
Daniel Ash >>>
As a baby bat I'm already in love with this group
As an ancient bat with grey in its fur, I am thrilled that you say that.
I never age.
Everything is still jet BLACK.
fuck yeah, welcome to the batcave!! happy to have you
@@kiratheelf772 💀🖤🖤🖤🖤💀
I'm just a systematically decomposing human being.
Gotta love the akward close-ups and stares of 80's music videos
At least they are not doing the duck lips... And turning their face awkwardly to the sides in order to get their cheekbones in a good angle. Or *gulp* twerking, never mind simulating sex on stage... There is so much awkwardness in modern videos that seemingly goes over the head of many, but rest assured it will be pointed out during the next decade.
oddly enough i find them kind of charming
@@the-postal-dudebauhaus is art modern music is degeneration
@@Fritha71if that even be next generations to see modern trash
@@flowrepins6663 "funny" enough how Bauhaus movement was precisely dubbed degenerate art by the Nazis. Question of perspective.
But please, dont give up the forest for a tree, there's a lot of incredible artists in todays music too. Theres good and bad in EVERY decade.
Peter Murphy is so beautiful it's almost painful!! Those cheekbones are incredible.
Oh and those eyes of his too
Hail Bauhaus! Quintessential Goth. Haunting; provocative; sexy; catchy; and original. There will never be another quite like them. The atmosphere they conjured up was effortless and unforgettable. Luckily we have the records to remember them by.
Peter was goth; the other guys just look uncomfortable.

You can really hear the Jamaican dub influence in this song. All three members were huge fans of Dub music from the 50's and 60's.
Fantastic observation.
You can really hear it in the long version of the song.
peter murphy has such a unique visual appearance it is captivating
ahhhh....memories
Just when I thought Our Oddie couldn't be cooler! Happy to see you here, thank you for all your effort to bring us the best!
Should have guessed I'd see you here, Oddie Beau!
yes
Odd seeing you here
Love your channel dude 👌
The music of my youth. God, I love Bauhaus.
Paul Gillam how old are you
You are awesome Paul
How old were you? Did you smoke weed?
killed it in the 80's with Bauhaus, no other time like that ever again, very privileged to be in that scene in NYC , brought'em all up Siouxie, Depeche, Smiths...
throbbing gristle....princess tinymeat, killing joke
Bauhaus never fails. Glad I was part of it back in the 80's.
I am so grateful I was alive when they were touring! Bauhaus, Tones On Tail, Love and Rockets, Peter Murphy!
That bass line. That vocal. God I miss the 80`s. I remember Peter featuring in a tape advert for Maxell. Awesome photo. Really iconic.
One of the greatest tracks ever recorded
There are only two types of people in this World, those who love Bauhaus and those who have missed out on Bauhaus 🖤
This guys are so beautiful..
A song every goth DJ loves!
so dark n original, love this song ..
It's in the can.
If she doesn’t know this song, she’s not your goth gf, she’s just an e-girl bro
I'll toast to this 🥃
thank you 💕
Accurate...
👏👏👏
yes i like what you said👍🖤
Saw them on their reunion tour in the 90's. I was impressed that they could reproduce this madness live... and in all their songs
The first reunion in the late 90s was the best !!
My boyfriend & later husband, Terry Tall turned me onto Bauhaus ... Amazing times; and YES "She's in Parties" --- I definitely was; once in a lifetime experiences ~ 🖤♥️🖤♥️🖤
shes in parties 🦅
This will forever remind me of an 18 year old guy I met on a school trip in DC. I was 15. He was a new wave looking guy from LI, NY and we were dancing together on a night time school organized boat cruise and we somehow started kissing… I was goth but only knew of Bela Lugosi’s dead.. he told me to listen to this song when I returned home and think of him…I did and it will forever remind me of that kiss on the boat.. 🖤
😍
Masterpiece!!!🔥
You say Bauhaus I say 80's are one and the same. They oooze the 80's culture. To the fkin core
Yes
And No hot Topic People
lmao
listening to bauhaus for the first time, this sounds soo good
I think this is the song that introduced me to goth music. I love this genre.
Learning lines in the rain
Special effects by loonatik and drinks
The graveyard scene
The golden years
She's in parties
It's in the can (twice)
Freeze frame screen kiss
Hot heads under silent wigs
Fall guys tumble on the cutting room floor
Look-a-likes fall on the cutting room door
She's in parties
It's in the can (twice)
Learning lines in the rain
Special effects by loonatik and drinks
Freeze frame, screen kiss, hot heads, lights and power
It's patently obvious
She's in parties
It's in the can (twice)
Hot lines under a rain of drum
Cigarette props in action
Dialogue dub, now here's the rub
She's acting her reaction
She's in parties
It's in the can
Thanks for the lyrics🤘
When i listen to this music back in the days i thought that it was "Until the cab" and it's "It's in the can" lmao
*FALL GUYS*
thanks :)
RIP Marilyn 🖤
This has got to be my all time favorite song by Bauhaus😸
The band that got me into Goth music 🖤.
@kyfaydfsoab lol pretty much but glad I found it and Bauhaus.
I'm blessed with the same baritone voice of Peter,👌
This band always transports me back to the days of hole in the wall college clubs and pitchers of beer all night long.
I KNOW Right...688❣️🎉🖤💙🧷 Bar in Atlanta GA. First time ever this is my reality...12 midnight and DJ played BelaLugosisDead while first goths id ever seen danced...Next day..Little 5 pts. Goth daddy’s!!!! Will forever love this band!!!!🖤🖤🖤
3:11 Haskins trying hard not to laugh lol
I mean it must have been goofy not gothy in the making
LMAO
Literally my favourite goth song.
Young, handsome and quite intelligent! Bauhaus were on another level of music composing and film making! Glad that I have discovered them in 2017. Great admirer of theirs ever since.
That bass tho!
I just started to get into goth stuff!! I love bauhaus, i cant wait to hear more of music like this
Peter murphy is so freaking handsome! The rest of the members are just stunning. Gorgeous eyeliner 😂
amazing vocal work as it's finest
this is like the coolest song ever wtf
One of the best bands of dark rock.
They are still so frickin cool
Im 20 and I love the bauhaus!🖤
Fascinating
Plot twist: she wasn't in parties.
In the song and British slang, 'parties' refers to bit parts (usually uncredited) in movies. She's that person who is on the screen for less than a minute, but you recognize them from other movies where they were on the screen for less than a minute.
@@HariSeldon913 dude, it's a god damn joke, stop being so serious about shit
@@seasonoftheseas it's an interesting piece of trivia dickhead
Doesn't matter still an awesome song, it was so mysterious, and his voice is mesmerizing 😵
@@HariSeldon913 Oh my God, thank you for explaining this! I'm American and have wondered for DECADES what the hell this song could be about. Now it mostly makes sense.
Great song, as a bass player the bassline almost gives this song a doomy reggae feel. i love it, and yet so simple but flows well!
Yes, absolutely, the part from 2:00 to 2:30 is definitely dub like !
The 80's was a marvelous decade!
This video is a visual masterpiece.
Bauhaus soundtracked my teens - love them.
Bauhaus é uma banda épica. Música maravilhosa.
Um som imortalizado com certeza !
The good stuff 👍🏻
Bauhaus é uma das melhores bandas que já existiram. Orgulho de ser fã 🤘🏻
AMO
still hits to this day
I saw them in 1983 in Liverpool, one of the best gigs i`ve been to. Afterwards we caught the train to Wigan Pier for the New Romantic night
Cooool bro! :)
This band and music is amazing. I have just discovered in 2020. ❤️
It’s in the can
STILL a huge Bauhaus fan...even their migration to Love and Rockets and Tones on Tail after Peter went solo...I wanted to play guitar and bass like Daniel and David when I first heard them...Incredible band that broke the molds in many ways.
Clássico eterno. Isso nunca vai ficar velho!
Timeless genius...
wish I had been alive at the times where music like this was created. back then when goth was wild
gawd this fucking anime shit everywhere
One of the things i'm learning about youtube is some people with money turn off comments. Whereas certain people/ groups don't. X
no, the comments are turned off by youtube due to copyright or other stuff.
Dang it! Bauhaus Music Sounds so much like today.... 2022ish
Awesome bass line
It’s like punk, reggae, and Bowie came together, and had a goth baby. Awesome!
Yep and I love it :)
Indeed!
Great song.
True goth band and favourite band
I was too- I still love this music though
I saw them live in 1998 and it was great.
Special effects by lunatic and drinks...
Saw them at Leeds Poly in 1983 with Southern Death Cult (later to be the Cult)- got back stage afterwards and spoke to Pete Murphy and Daniel Ash, and they were very kind to me as a spotty teen- great night.
I not jealous. Really I'm not 😭
Same year Lyceum theatre Sheffield then stayed up all night walking the streets battered on pills happy days .
Wow - Thats one helluva night.
I just wonder how many times they got hit with that lightbulb 😂
Bauhaus FOREVER!
Always liked Tones on Tail and Love&Rockets but, Never got into this band other than their main hit. But first heard this song a few months ago, didnt really give it much though but decided to watch this video and give it another try. It kind of grows on you..wish I got into these guys back in the 80's.

THAT BASSLINE !!!
I feel like every goth band has these 2 totally goth looking dudes, one half-way goth looking and the other looks like a 90s boy band guy just in more muted colors
adorable vintage wrist watch at 2:32
This is one of their best
That video is one hell of a work of art
Потрясающий альбом!👍👍👍
First listened to Bauhaus as an art student in the 80s and proud to say this is one of my favourite songs and videos of all time. PS How I miss the dry - ice on the dance floor !
This song has been stuck in my head for so many years... I ain't even mad.
:)
Still rocking out to this at the end of 2022!
Every Goth DJ's go to! My favorite goth rock song!
That Reggae bass line. So good
Peter Murphy did idolize David Bowie. so he probably got some of his ideas from him you should hear their version of Ziggy Stardust, he sound exactly lime David Bowie. So yeah Peter Murphy is like David Bowie's Gothic alter ego!!!
Everyone in the U.K. in the 70’s idolised Bowie. Except me, coz I was really young and completely gormless!
Now Murphy's the only surviving alter ego...
and bowie thought their version kicked a lot of ass.
My son & I saw Mr Murphy and the band last nite in New Orleans 2/4/19 at the old Civic Theater. They closed the show with Ziggy Stardust. You had to be there is all I can say🧛🏼♂️
i agree
This song is legit 👌
Lucky us to have been part of this band time...and then Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets
We were teens in the very best music period.
Great band i love bauhaus
