I wish I could listen to them for the first time again
Truest comment ever.💜
My first time listening to them! LIVE THROUGH ME!!!
Oh, to experience darkwave for the first time again in high school in the early 80s. To feel connection to goth when I felt disconnected to all that bubblegum on the radio. To soar in that bass line, to disappear into Peter's eyes, and know there were people like me out there. Nobody gets it now. They just look at your silver hair and dismiss you, as if you never lived, were never 17, were never alive.
Great comment!
You have to press repeat button
That killer bassline!
play so fast with fingers is crazy
Daniel Ash
@@pauloalexandre1626 David J. Haskins. Daniel Ash is the guitarist
@LHS's waifu
Thanks my friend to adjusted my nasty mistake. I just remembered about Daniel Ash cos I started listening Bauhaus and many other bands in this line since my 15 (I've got 48). Gold memories still remains ;)
Hell yeah! Brilliant!
I remember the first time I saw these guys on tv in 1982 or 83. They were scary! I was only around 12 but I was blown away. In high school I wore the old white Bauhaus shirt with the face/ design thing. My drama teacher asked if I was into German design lol …
Heavy dark band. Very creative as well
Well, Im sure they named themselves after the German Bauhaus architecture movement.
@@martineshamzin7535 Of course!
Bauhaus 1919
@@martineshamzin7535 german, but also anti-german and international. a cry against the massacre of world war one. like dada and surrealism and all the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century. but have we really learned sth from their reaction to the shock of the war? hell no.
I was there 2 nd row from front just below David Jay. Still remember queueing for tickets and meeting a girl called Stella who had just interviewed Bauhaus for her college magazine. She posted me a copy of the magazine, oh the days before internet lol. Wish I still had it.
they went to my school in Northampton !
Oh man, you ,me and 90 percent of the population fully agree.
Wow... Awesome... Cheers from a Southern California Death Rocker kid.. now 46.. I will always be that kid..
lucky U
At Zero Hey-I just turned 50...originally from the LA area...I had so much fun in the ‘80’s in LA
Peter Murphy, was influenced by David Bowie and Iggy Pop. That's why in concert they usually end with a Bowie or Iggy song. Peter Murphy still pays tribute by ending his shows with a Bowie tune. I've seen Bauhaus live and Peter Murphy live several times and always end it with the encore song being one of Bowie's. High energy post punk, great band Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins! Great voice and definitely Bowiesk!
57yo and I still want to get up and go berserk to this!
I’m 53yo. So, I’m the young student😎.
I was never into goth. However, Bauhaus music got to me. When I played “paranoia paranoia” to my friends, they started to doubt on me🤣🤣🤣
I will always love this.
do it! be the cool older goth
They played this at a goth club I went to earlier this year, and I went nuts. It’s an insanely fun song to dance to
I was 13 in 1978 and BAUHAUS were my artistic/musical salvation.
Pablo Cruise didn’t do it for ya? 🙃
Peter Murphy is the GOAT
2:35 Oh Shit! I need that Bauhaus Leather Jacket!
That was Millie. He was in the Walton Bauhaus Crew. He was at every gig. Also in the Ziggy Stardust video
@@ianwhiffen5412What about the pink hair girl?
@@bowieseyes Bored Linda.
Peter Murphy is the David Bowie of goth.
i liked Tones On Tail and Love and Rockets a bit way better after. Daniel Ash was awesome. I saw both solo and Murphy was a yawn. House of Love blew him away and i wasnt even familiar with them. i didnt know what goth was, i thought it was rock-punk when i first heard em. Murphy is probably a little too much Bowie...without actually being Bowie. weak link. sexy, tho.
Sûre!!!😜
@Quadruple Ban sure at this time no goth music… I called that bat cave music… after Punk music was called « New Wave « ….
Peter Murphy like very much David Bowie but he is himself ,he is not David Bowie
Sounds more like Lux interior on this
It's possible that Daniel Ash is the most beautiful man that ever lived.
yes, he was hot, i remember 1983 my punk rock boyfriend was into Bauhaus and saw them in San Francisco, at the time i was not really into them, and recently re-discovered them during Covid lockdown, now they are my fav band
yes.
My only man-crush
Absolutely. When he has that original Bauhaus spiky hair!!
He and Adam Ant
No one does the shoulder shuffle like Peter! 🥰🦇💜
My favorite band! Daniel is the coolest guitarist ever
this shit makes me want to start a group
You in teens or 20s? PLEASE DO! I am 50 and I am sooo bored with modern music.
DO IT!!!
did you?
Did you start that group up yet?
100th like bruh DO IT
So underrated. One of the greatest guitar songs of all time.
lol love the band love the song but you're a moron for saying this
@@vintagedocs1282 ew bye negative energy
Love love the guitar on this. The distortion goes soooo hard
I don’t like the song at all
Totally agree with you !! Daniel Ash is one of the best and most underated guitarists of all time !!
It was amazing in the 80’s and still are!
fuck billie eilish bro
There are some decent post punk,Darkwave and Gothic band that have been out for the past five years.
Glass Winged Angel, that may true, but can they hold a candle to BAUHAUS?
Glass Winged Angel not true you got (sonsombre) a good goth rock band and (twin tribes )a good dark wave band
@@Paul-po1wo ,yes that is actually what I was saying! There are still some great Goth bands now! I meant that five years ago was when some great bands started coming back around.
Jesus...this brings back mad memories of a better time
I agree!
Too right.
Now this is f*cking art dude....love Bauhaus.
Pete Murphy, the definition of 'enigmatic frontman'.
crowhillian58 He dances like Curtis, except he isn't having any mental instability.
@@Neel-ff4mn live transmission
What do you mean by that?
Neel 2000 Peter has plenty of mental instability...
Neel are you a shrink ?
I can still hear and smell my hairsprayed hair burning and sizzling from the hair crimpers...I was about 16 at this time
Haha
and doing your hair upside down with the hairspray and hairdryer.
Lucky 😩
David Trzcinski Yes! Back combing like mad, then spraying, then crimping, then more back combing, holding it out trying to blast the roots only 😂
Tyrone Koumoundouros 😂 Oh, but of course! 🤣
Used to listen to this song full blast driving the freeways of Orange and LA counties, completely out of my mind! When I go to the psychiatrist and he asks me what I'm feeling I want to scream " I get bored in the flat field"!
What were you out on??
I Know RiGHT....🎉❤
😮🎉❤
where has this band been all my life, they are awesome
Bauhaus,Joy Division, Virgin Prunes,
Nick Cave.... La colonna sonora
della nostra gioventù.
A gut pull drag on me
Into the chasm gaping we
Mirrors multy reflecting this
Between spunk stained sheet
And odorous whim
Camera eye-flick-shudder within
Assist me to walk away in sin
Where is the string that Theseus laid
Find me out this labyrinth place.
I do get bored, I get bored
In the flat field.
I get bored, I do get bored
In the flat field
Yin and yang lumber punch
Go taste a tart, then eat my lunch
And force my slender thin and lean
In this solemn place of fill wetting dreams
Of black matted lace of pregnant cows
As life maps out onto my brow
The card is lowered in index turn
Into my filing cabinet hemispheres spurn.
I do get bored, I get bored
In the flat field.
I get bored, I do get bored
In the flat field
Let me catch the slit of light
For a maidens sake
On a maiden flight
In the flat field I do get bored
Replace with Piccadilly whores
In my yearn for some cerebral fix
Transfer me to that solid plain
Hammer me into blazen pain
Moulding shapes no shame to waste
Moulding shapes no shame to waste
And drag me there with deafening haste.
Poetry
Lived them in the early 80s and love them just as much now. They are one of the greatest bands ever.
This song and performance is a work of art.
Just brilliant. What a song, and what a performance ! I could never get bored with this!!
dude how old are you you look like you´re 8 or something
His voice is so utterly perfect, mind blowing
Surely one of the greatest songs ever..!
insanely well. That bassline is a mover. Floorshow with the Sisters of Mercy is the nearest to that drive. Peters singing is top notch always. Those were the days one became in love with music.
Almost all I listened to in the Early '80's was Bauhaus, the Cocteau Twins, Cranberries and Siouxie and the Banshees. Ah, the great days of the John Peel show on R1.
Cranberries werent around until the 90s
Favorite Bauhaus song!
Not one note could be changed. Beautiful, perfect music.
Back in 1982 my friends and I All dressed like this...and we were SO INTO OUR MUSIC...Such an AWESOME time to be alive!!!!
When I listen to this song, I feel mesmerized while singing with Peter Murphy, I have listened to Bauhaus at first in the 1983, and I love very much this band.❤
That bass!
The gothiest goths that have ever gothed.
Deadest death rockers
That’s verbal death; you kiss your dictionary with that tongue?
@@josiahprofenno4136 the art of Word
I see you took this from the mask video... lame
I would rather say the batcaviest batcaves that have ever batcaved, but it would be quibble TBH
2:32 Look at those fingers go! One of the best bassists ever!
Funny how in perfect synchronicity with Peter's singing, the chick at 2.40 does get bored... And as with rock solid proper boredom, it starts with blowing one's own fringe.
I don't always listen to this song but when I do so do my neighbors!
Such a brilliant song
Peter Murphy is truly the David Bowie of rockstars.
🤘🖤🤘
Daniel and Peter... made such Amazing music...
One of the best group of rock'n roll ever, realy. If you listen the album " The sky's gone out", it's perfect..
My heads spinning after seeing that...... Takes me right back.... xxxxx
What a Performance !! Peter Murphy is a Mainiac and the best Frontman ever !!!
Still got the VHS of this. Brilliant!
Vhs tapes vhs tapes yes. Vhs tapes
I saw him in 2018, he played this track. Still incredible 35 years on!
I was there aged 16, bouncers let me in for free
Me too. What a gig. Saw them at The Adelphi Theatre a couple of months later. The seating in the theatre all got destroyed so they had to cancel the 2nd night lol. Don't think they played anymore Theatres after that
I was 18 years and was total mind change 🎸🎸🎸🎸🖤🖤🖤🖤
Love this song
Pure Art
This song is a quintessential portion of my upbringing and represents my mindset and musical taste so well. Thank you for the post!
This song was inspired by a vist to Northamptons Race course with his Father, Pete got very bored, and if you study pictures of this place you will note that it is very flat.
I love always this song
We need artists like this again... not afraid to experiment, and actually play their own instruments
Agreed Michelle. With the advent of computers it allows anyone to make music(rubbish) and think they are a star. Unfortunately misinformed kids buy that crap(music) up so they keep putting it out there.
i love Bauhaus, and there is shit loads of artist around that experiment, and actually play their own instruments, but most get nowhere, still if you really look, you can find plenty
Fad Gadget was another band that was amazing in the early 80s that I used to love too.
Yep that is so true, these guys are from my youth but i still hear plenty of great new stuff comming through.
Anyone can make music with a "real instrument" or a "computer". Making good music is the exception either way.
my favorite bauhaus song
My 80's music
AWESOME!!!!!!
perfect dance perfect sound perfect motivation
Se dovessi riassumere in una canzone le energie contrastanti, le emozioni e la rabbia dei 20 anni IN THE FLAT FIELD è il pezzo più adatto. Stupendi BAUHAUS
A benchmark for live performances.
the crowd was stunned; left speechless, haha
Unbelievable band!!!
My most favorite song by them
Underated guitarist
I do get bored. But not listening to this!
Just magnificent masters of their genre and a fierce performance beautiful.
after all these years its sound better than ever whhhoooooossssshhhjhh 💜💜💜
Purely Amazing!!!
Bauhaus is my all time favorite band
Back when music could blow you away!!
Bauhaus were so fucking innovative, brilliant band.
i saw them back in 2006 when they toured w/ NIN and opening for both bands was tv on the radio. best concert i ever went to. bauhaus was just intense and peter murphy basically took everyone to school although NIN just killed it later that night.
Bauhaus toured with NIN!? Must have been an incredible show
Yes! Saw them all on that tour too!
Henry S. there’s some cool footage of Peter Murphy jamming with Trent Reznor and a couple of the guys in NIN at the time, with PM singing the NIN material, no less!
What a beautiful funking song... I feel like a... Powerfull fan
I remember them back in the early 80s. Also X-mal Deutschland.
2 bands I never saw back in the day.
Time moves fast!
Uma das melhores bandas de todos os estilos do mundo!
yes the only person who can make his back look as sexy as his front, thumbs up pete
Merlina Cane that’s Milly
Iggy Pop ...Brando, in Street Car Named Desire (torn t shirt) - "Stella!"
You're fucking right!
They still are a bit of our salvation
Best Live - Version of this Song ever !@!
I do love this song
Who took the flashlight from off the top of the fridge and into your darkened bedroom and shined it at your face at different angles in front of the mirror while listening to Bauhaus. *slowly raises up hand ;)
Why would you keep a flashlight on the top of the fridge
greatest band ever
Genius band! Great performance...
Truly great moment in time. Pretty fucking awesome.

I want this jacket so badly, This is a legendary clothe !
Excellent....
Bauhaus to klasa sama w sobie!!!! Punk's&Oi! Dolny Śląsk
The most beautiful man ever
Still mindnumbing. Count the bands who have been 'inspired' by Bauhaus n you will never stop counting. They were from 'the other side' . . .
