The longing I have for this era causes physical pain. And I wasn’t even born yet.
I share your longing and can empathize with your pain although I was 26 when the eighties began. At least I have the memories ...
I always feel that way Justine, always.
Manchester is the center of my universe.
Me too 💔
Reasonable
One of the most important musical bands, and yet so underrated?👌👌👌
Underrated? They were my 1980s. But I love your comment.
@@scroticle Where I was from only the ones that were hitting the clubs even knew this, but I remember the first time I heard this getting blown away
People call them the Godfathers of Goth how are they underrated?
Underrated???? Sure it was not played on top 40 radio in 83... but...
@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music i still keep meeting young goth kids in discord chats who don't know them... Not enough people really dig into music and look up information online.
I'm now seventeen, and while I very much appreciate the new technology, better rights for my people, and general comfort in everyday life, I always catch myself being kind of sad about missing all of my favourite bands being active...
In fact I just feel kind of frustrated because me missing this was completely out of my hands.
All I can do now is listen to my CDs, stream the music and watch recording. But man, I really wish I was there…
If anyone has-, or knows someone with-, a time machine, please let me know👍
I sympathize, but do be grateful that you have videos of watchable quality. 20 years earlier, you're stuck with no video, potato video, or the occasionally well preserved TV special.

I love the comfort of todays life.
I get to live in a time where all the art I could ever want is as accessible than ever before and I am very grateful for that.
That said I still find myself longing for certain aspects of the past. I think that’s natural for us humans though:)
I started art college in 1983. A fantastic year for music, that I knew would change too quickly.
they all so majestic bro
Bauhaus forever ❤❤❤
Peter, David, Daniel and Kevin ❤❤❤
That sound is classic 80s...much needed much desired. It defined an era
STOPPPPP THE HAND ACTIONS 1:58 AAAH 💕💕
Love the Murph man!!!!
spent many a nights blasting this song in the mid 80's ...drunk out of my mind...depressed...but then I got laid..and moved on
You’re bringing me back 30 years.. why? This music crushes me.

It's IN THE CAN
Sensational
Fantastic stuff from Bauhaus, probably one of their more radio friendly tunes and that album Burning from the Inside was excellent too, really did like King Volcano, brilliant.
Everyone looks so gentle and tame here
I can promise you it wasn't tame if you went to see them live in the Aylesbury Friars back in the day.
I'm not sure if one of them was a welder, but they used to throw heavy, sharp, solid, steel objects into the audience.
The mosh-pit was inhabited by lanky, white, strung-out goths, who were often bleeding. Possibly after they had been struck by such objects, although they were probably tripping too much to notice.
Daniel is in a pair of black leather trousers, whoa. Why?!!! This brings me back to teen yrs/ Dam! I cant believe how much I love the Tones on Tail everything! record over Bauhaus or
Love&rockets, maybe because daniel sings every single song and even plays the saxophone, oh how sexy is that!!!?
Saw Bauhaus back in the late 90s. Daniel perched on a speaker stack and played sax for In Fear of Fear. Epic! People under-appreciate what a musical genius he is. He's almost like an abstract impressionist, more interested than making beautiful noise than structured melodies.
Now this is F ing awesome.
Good times! :)
sadly they're in the can now

Superb - thoroughly enjoying these TOTP videos - thank you :)
Oh Peter 😍😍😍🖤💔🖤💔🖤
Bauhaus' last major song before disbanding later that year...and they wouldn't be the last 80's band to suffer this fate.
Though I'm sorry I missed this era, by their own account and in my experience as well, they were better in the late 90s than they ever were in their original incarnation.
✨Peter Murphy✨ my sweetie and beautiful porcelain doll ❤️😍🤗

David J’s bass in this song is so tasty!
@Gaymer sometimes a bassline is too good for normal senses
@Gaymer Tasty is commonly used to describe bass playing where have you been
@Gaymer the bass in this is sexy !!
That guy is the secret sauce of this band. What a line-up of talent.

This is so 1983..Sisters of Mercy etc
Just a short while before breaking up....
In the 80s, school trips to cultural sites 'of interest' were invariably ruined by the whole coach singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" or other such shit on the way back. Satisfying, then, for a small nucleus of us to face this down with a no-prisoners-taken version of "She's in Parties" from the back row of the coach one time. Still remember the stunned, traumatized silence of the rest of the coach afterwards, trying to metabolize what they'd heard. Just how it should be.
"cultural sites of interest"? That sounds brutal.
Music doesn't push out other music. If there was no Queen, there would never be Bauhaus either.
No music is "shit" if someone enjoys it.
@@martineshamzin7535 I get it though. No sensible person would dispute that Queen are brilliant, and Bohemian Rhapsody is a work of genius. But there's a fine line between a group sharing appreciating for great music, and just plain old conformity. And there's nothing more rock-n-roll than poking fun at conformity. That's half the reason Bauhaus is so great. They're transgressors. But unlike the cut-rate edgelord transgression of today, they did it with style and taste.

Hang on, if the bass player is playing that mouth organ thing, then who's playing bass? 🧐
Top of the Pop's wanted bands to lip sync and Bauhaus wanted to play live so for their performance they pissed about to show what they thought, that's probably why David J appeared to multitask
@@R.Byleth sorta the same vibe as Nirvana with Smells like teen spirit on TOTP...
Just a bit less noticable and obvious
That thing is called a recorder. Not sure why. Since this is Top of the Pops, my guess is the whole band is lip-syncing to a pre-recorded track. It sounds identical to the album version, so I'd say that's what it is. When they actually play live, Peter played the recorder.
@@rottensquid at 1:05 and 2:24 it goes into the vocal effect they used and in their actual live performances he never sounds like that during that part. This is obviously a lip sync.
david played a mean bass for a guy who looks to weigh 110 pounds.
mmm playback....
