Very different from my exp hh. My bro been into all this cryptos since quarantine. One day he asked to draw something and put it out as NFT. I said "Sure but not now" cuz me being careless with his interest and thought "one drawing won't hurt", and I was "desperate for recognition" for my art. Because the people who buy and sell NFT’s view it as an investment. The actual quality of the art is mostly irrelevant to these people, and they often buy them because they believe the NFT will increase in value. The Bored Apes Club is objectively not art. They lack any soul or any artistic touch, but people buy them because they’re popular. Popular NFT lines and celebrity NFT’s sell mostly on the merits of the sellers themselves.
The truth is that the people buying and selling art have no respect for the art itself, while advertising NFT’s as a way for artists to get paid and protected. Most artists who try to sell one will never be able to, because they don’t have a big brand or are well recognized in the crypto art space. NFT’s are, in their current state, an insult to art and artists.

I knew they were stepping over me and I was letting myself be stepped on like that. I felt ashamed and angry when she left the room. I didn’t even know her. Every time I see horror stories of those Crypto people, I can’t help but picture them as being possessed for some reason. The way they support and advocate positively for NFTs to death. Their overly constantly ‘enthusiastic’ attitude. It’s like an infectious disease. The seemingly ‘patient’ demeanor, akin to crazy people telling you all the ways they are going to hurt you, but with a calm voice. It often sounds like they are held hostage to read a script sometimes. Like a puppet. It's like they are slowly going insane.
It's like if you are true fans of something, you would also have criticism to fix flaws, to make what you are passionate about, more better. You recognize the good and bad, and you totally understand if people don't agree with you.
But with these Cryto people? Nothing but praise. Not even any slight opinions on how to improve the situation. Absolutely nothing is wrong with NFTs in their eyes. NFTs are a gift from God. They force people to follow them. NFTs solve everything after all, right?

because its like the lottery, art NFTs are the Emperors New Clothes in technology form where if everyone plays along with the notion that a shitty cartoon ape embedded on a blockchain is worth something then everyone can play pass the parcel to new bagholders further down the pyramid, who are only in it to simply do the same. people can mint new ones and may make some or even a lot of money if lucky for minimal effort and some technological knowhow, hence why all sorts of stuff is being outright stolen to mint new crypto lottery tickets. the idea of an NFT is interesting from a digital rights perspective and may have legitimate uses in the future , hawking off mediocre art to "investors" is dubious at best outright scam at worst.

Something people fail to realise is that a commission basically is an nft of sorts, once a drawingpainting is made, it can never be replicated not even by the artist no matter how hard they try, the artist won't be using the same strokes and do everything 100% the same.
But these stupid nfts are auto-generated, they cane easily be found online and screenshoted, however a commission is 1 and 1 only, meant for you, made for you.

    • @Lechgang
      @Lechgang 2 года назад +14

Not only that, but the artist of a commission can attach their own terms to the artwork such as what it can and can't be used for. Specifically, a commission artist can legally make it to where their art cannot be sold for NFTs, and any Cryptobros that try it can be taken to court. NFT's aren't exclusive, they're virtually worthless and very few people actually want to buy them, only sell.

When I sent that I thought, "If he's about to ask me about NFTs, I'm-" *bling* He replied. "Have you heard of NFTs?" At early 2021, I was trying to land some gigs on Fiverr, and someone came up with a 'collectible' commission. I had no idea about NFTs, and tried to know more about the project to provide a better service, but ended with no information about it.
The very first commission was an alright experience, just exploring some sketches and ideas, but it then quickly devolved into a myriad of extras for every order, always choosing the worst art to go through, and delivered in some crazy deadlines. The worst part was that there were always several adjustments requests, without any payment for them, up until I politely asked to respect the revision policy. It devolved into small payments for the rework, and always more requests for adjustments without pay. Again, up until the point of another 5$ revision delivery, that the client started to lash out about how small the adjustment was, and that he had a Photoshop expert that could tell how little I had done. I politely answered again the huge asshole who wanted a 5$ refund for this last order.
That was my last order with them, refusing to work with him again, but still they went on to launch an ugly NFT collection that actually sold a lot, and to make it worse, they marketed that the ARTISTS were launching the NFT collection, when all they payed me for 70% of the collection was something around 100$, mostly from 5$ revisions, while being assholes on top of it.

Answer - it's because more than likely the person contacting the Artist is either a kid around the ages of 8 to 13 OR they are from a country like India (maybe) where they don't seem to know how applying for Commissions work, This is why they might come off as serious, robotic stiff or resort to insulting you if you say no to them. I was just at a convention a few weeks ago. An older man approached my table and asked me if I was at a different convention because he thought he recognized me, but no I wasn't there. he started complimenting my art and saying I had a lot of skill for making my watercolour so detailed and he's never seen any artist do it like me. He told me his father has a gallery and he's never seen watercolour detailed like mine... (which is weird because I see more talented watercolour artists all the time with more detailed stuff than mine, which immediately made me think this guy doesn't really know what he's talking about.) he grabbed one of my business cards and said he was interested in having me do work for greeting cards, but then rabbit trailed into asking me if I knew about the Metaverse and NFTs. He kept going on and on about all the connections he has and all the people he knows that invest in all sorts of things yada yada yada. He said I was one of the very few at the convention who had ACTUAL skill (definitely not true because JUST in my row there were at least a few artists who were very skilled). He kept going on about the potential I had in working with him if he chose me to be a part of his project that he kept saying WAS SO SECRET HE CANNOT GIVE ME DETAILS. I kept trying to find a polite way out because he was talking to me for a while and I had people waiting to come to my table to ask me a question and buy stuff and I had sketch commissions I needed to get done for that day. I finally got him to leave and said "well, I'll think about it" to which he reiterated that THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE HE WOULD CHOSE ME. Like... okay whatever? He also was interested in buying one of my originals that I had on display but he didn't have enough cash on him and I'm so glad he didn't cause I didn't want to sell to him to have it potentially used as a NFT without my permission.
But yeah, long story short, I think the Metaverse and NFTs are stupid from what i know, and since I don't feel like I fully understand either of them I don't want to do business with them because I have a feeling I'll get ripped off.

One time I got a message said that they want to make an artwork of Chadwick Boseman to tribute him by make it into NFT. Is that how you make tribute of the deceased one? tribute? to sell it as an NFT? Isn't that taking advantage, not tributing.
I told him it's not right to take advantage of deceased one. I have no reply since. I hate this kind of people, have no conscience, no morale, just plain a-hole. Or maybe deep down they know it's not right but ignore it, for easy money.
Another one is from my friend's colleague. He want to make a company that produce NFT, said that he has investors and confident that this company will be a huge success to the point asked me to leave my current full time job, a stable, well paid and a kind of work that I love, to something that not even sure if it will be exist in the first place. So politely I said no.
Well, he didn't give up, with a promise that my salary and position will be higher and I will have my own team, bigger than my current team (If that company success of course).
He also said that he already shown my artworks to the investors and they like it very much, that's why he couldn't giving up on me. Showing my art to the third party without my consent is quite unpleasant already. He even try to convince me to meet him for further discussion even said that he will pay for all my tickets and hotel. I'm a woman, and he ask me go far away... to meet him... alone? (maybe I'm watching too much of crime documentary but that doesn't sounds right, right?).
He asked if we could make a phone call, I agree since I want to be as polite as possible. I said no for the offer immediately without him start his persuasion. Glad he understand and didn't push it any further. Later that I know, he change his plan into a game company.
