    It definitely gets hot in July/August and getting hotter every year. Mid-high 80s (>30c) easily. Also the rain can be torrential with hailstorms becoming more common. That said, it's still one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

    What’s your advice on renting a car vs using trains. For a family of 6.

    • @bradball
      @bradball  4 месяца назад

      @@alaaalshammari I’m an advocate of renting a car (or… as we did a van). It can be expensive, but it provides ultimate flexibility to see a wide variety of places and you’re not having to be constantly dragging your luggage everywhere. Driving in Italy is fun. I would check for good offers online at the major car rental companies. We used Hertz.

    Is 1 day enough to visit all the places you went to?

    • @bradball
      @bradball  2 года назад +2

      Yes… if you get an early start. It won’t be a relaxing day, and you certainly won’t see everything. However, you can get a feel for each town spending just a few hours in each.

    Great video. Thinking about staying in Varenna. Any recommendations for basic - mid level hotels?

    • @bradball
      @bradball  Год назад

      I didn’t stay overnight in Varenna. I do believe you’ll find a fair number of smaller boutique style hotels. Pretty sure you won’t find any major brands in Varenna (or most of the lake towns except maybe Como). I’ve had good look finding places to stay on Hotels.com so that’s generally what I recommend. Their rating system is reliable as well… anything over 8.5 with 20+ reviews is usually excellent.

    Where did you stay in Como?

    • @bradball
      @bradball  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching the video. To answer your question, we stayed in a VRBO home in a small town called Molina on the Southwestern arm of Lake Como (about 15 km north of Como). Our rental was a nice size and accommodating for our family. It overlooked the Lake and the immediate town was nice. However, it was not very accessible and it required us to drive to Como or Bellagio to catch a ferry. I would not stay in the same place again... but would prefer to stay in a town with accessible ferry service.

    However. Bellaggio is a haven for tourists. And the locals know about it.
    Italians wouldn't go there, and if they do, they certainly wouldn't be falling for all the tourist traps.
    Oh, and it's Varenna, not Verena

  • @clareinnes2048
    @clareinnes2048 5 месяцев назад

    You also need to know that tourist are killing it! They queues are long as are the waits at popular cafes and restaurants, the authenticity is fading as locals are priced out, the locals in hot spots are fed up with selfish, self entitled noisy tourists who push, shove and take endless photos and TikTok contents. Try some of the other equally beautiful lakes or visit some of the lesser known towns - you will have a better and more authentic experience.
