I was in Varenna & Bellagio in 2002 and that trip remains to be my favorite trip of all-time. My friends, family and guests of my cousin's wedding stayed in Villa Cipressi. The wedding was held on the grounds of the villa as well. What a magical time that was.

I Just went to Milan and from there I went to Lake Como, I stayed in Tremezzo, visited Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio, Venice and Lugano!! I had the most wonderful time! The culture: people, language, food... is wonderful, transportation is really easy to go from one place to another. I really suggest Lake Como is so Beautiful!!

We spent 10 days staying in a hotel on the waterfront in Cadenabbia , then used boat and train services to visit the different villages up and down Lake Como. Of the two towns Vareena and Bellagio, we much preferred the town of Vareena to Bellagio . . . too many tourists, even though we too were tourists. We liked to try and find more out of the way towns, gardens, monasteries etc, to visit and spend our Euros.

Lake Como, Lake Garda, Lake Iseo, Lake Maggiore, etc., etc. These lakes, and I love lakes, are with the surroundings the most beautiful natural places I have ever seen. Lake Como draws close to 2 million visitors a year. I personally think it's more, but that's the 'official'. Lake Garda draws an astounding 25+ Million visitors a year. 'Visitor' in this case doesn't just mean you went there, but stayed overnight at least one day. Of course most stay much longer. That's 25 million tourists at just 'one lake' in Italy every year, and it's increasing. That's really Amazing. I totally get why.

We stayed in Bellagio three streets over from the famous view. It was def more touristy and the restaurants could be a challenge without a reservation. We did not have car and it would have been helpful (we found a great restaurant a town over and no cab service to get there) It was beautiful in the early morning to walk around before ferries came in but I would stay somewhere else next time. Probably in the main town of Lake Como, Varenna, Argegno, Lenno, or Tremezzo next time. Food prices were much less in Argegno and Lenno.

Roman Emperors had their summer estates on the Como Lake, when season was too hot, they refreshed themselves in that paradisiac place.
In winter instead... they went to Capri. Beautiful island close to Naples where the weather is always warm and pleasant.

Wow so beautiful and the food looks amazing. The cat is precious and enjoyed your gelato 😊. I hope to travel to Italy one day 🤗❤️
