In this vanlife travel vlog we make our way down to Brighton in the south of the UK. What starts out as a trip with beautiful weather soon turns to subzero temperatures and the UK's biggest storm this year - storm Isha - with 80MPH winds. We enjoy our time in Brighton, meeting with friends, enjoying the starling murmurations at Brighton Pier before the storm starts rolling in and we have to batten down the hatches in our campervan. In the end, we escape the coast and make our way back up to London where we meet with another friend and make the most of vanlife in London before heading home.

⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we'd recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.
Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of the beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!

Stay warm for the baby's sake But have to say I would rather have your -5 than our's -5 :)
Hi Beans, we love watching your adventures, but wanted to point out that your link to the beam chocolate drink which we wanted to try, when we clicked on it, we're only offered exactly the same discount (20percent) as when we searched for it independently, so it is rather misleading of the company to use you to advertise in that way. Just thought it worth a mention, but it won't put us off watching you, as we think you're great😊
Think I'll stick with Ovaltine before bed, it's cheaper and has more vitamins and minerals.
Thanks for shouting "Beans out" before the adverts start 😊
Hi 👋 Alex and Emma how are you?? What country are you from?
I beat cancer! Now, my husband and I are going to the South of France! Yeah for Good News!
Science is a wonderful thing, it has made such a personal difference to so many people. I'm so happy for you complete stranger. A votre Sante!
That’s great news!!
congratulations! you enjoy that holiday and all the best x
Enjoy 🎉
From a fellow cancer patient, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm in remission from brain cancer. This was my 4th time getting it. I hope y'all have a wonderful time in the South of France! ❤
Thanks for letting me be on my favourite RUclips channel. x
I am so glad you realize you don't have to rough it to be a van dwellers. Please work towards getting a van that makes your travel adventures comfortable.
Whenever I hear of other people I (vaguely) know doing well, I always get happy too.
My good news for today is that I had a very good performance review at work, which means a salary increase, plus of course it’s nice to be acknowledged.
Also, it’s adorable that Noah and Neo have such similar feeling name.
And call me weird, but I got teary eyed seeing the aquarium, it’s so pretty!
A happy life is not about a clean house, as a adult or with children. With kid's you will always be adapting.
My good news is we sold a house 2 days before Christmas and it closes on Thursday. And more clients arriving in Punta Cana today. Life is good!!
Noah is such a happy baby - his beaming little smile just lights up the screen.
Obviously a tub of love, that van ...
Our good news: Booking our hotels for our 20th Anniversary trip to Ireland in April. Can't wait to return across the pond. Our "wee Roos" are all grown up and only one more kid to head out on her own. Enjoy Noah's discoveries, Alex & Emma! They do grow up fast.
Love the mini golf!! Need to check that out!
I hope the second hand good news was Raya getting her passport approved ❤
I am so glad you met up with them and I got to see Neo. What a lovely treat. ❤
I am smiling ear to ear that you are friends with Raya & Louis. The boys will surely enjoy each other's company 😊
Our good news lately was the birth of our 5th grandchild !!🎉
Our fifth grand is due any day! 🇨🇦
congratulations!!! how lovely I hope everyone is well x
Yeay! I was hoping when you said that you were in Brighton meeting friends with a baby that it was Raya and Louis (and Neo).
I'm not the only one that has been attacked by birds. I feel your pain Emma.
Loved seeing Brighton, the street artwork is awesome and the crazy golf looked mega. You asked about good news stories - for me, last week, it was work agreeing to my request for flexible retirement which basically means I'll be working only 3 days instead of 5 days a week and can pay off my mortgage early while saving up to retire proper in one or two years. Boom! So happy.🤩
When you see starlings flying in unison like that it's called a "murmuration". It's a cool thing to witness!
That waiter paying attention to Noah made me smile 💖🥰
You two are really good parents! Noah is lucky! ❤️
Oooh I loved that play place you went with Noah!!!
I had a helpful discovery, as opposed to good news - I found if I took anti-inflammatories 3 times a day, that most days it considerably improved my pain and fatigue! So now I'm getting two walks a day with my dogs, managing some chores and therefore a lot happier! 😊 Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference!
So great to wake up to a Tuesday morning Travel Beans video to watch while drinking my coffee, fantastic start to the day, thanks! 🙏💚
Hello from Baltimore MD, USA. What type of anti- inflammatory are you taking maybe that's what I should try or do you know of anything natural.
@@jackiegunter6001 Naproxen works best for me, but it has slightly higher risks than Ibuprofen, Ibuprofen is also cheaper here, so I alternate, but NEVER within the same day. Medications affect everyone differently, so it can be good to try different types (after consultation with your doctor). Long term medicating is not ideal for your body, but some of us with chronic conditions don't have much of a choice. Always check that any new drug, supplement, or natural medicines are safe with any current medications you take - your doctor and pharmacist should do this, but it's best to ask, in case they forget to check.(often being overworked). Good luck finding the right treatment for your condition, it can be very difficult and pain and fatigue are exhausting! I hope you feel better soon 🤞
Love the good news train! (And loved seeing Brighton, it looks beautiful!)
My good news is that I have an appointment at a fertility clinic next week! To hopefully start my family!
My good news seeing my family growing , my 12 the and 13 th grandchild birth ,five days apart them, and seeing people happy with simple things in life and sharing this video with you
Hugs from italy 🇮🇹♥️
I'm in remission now from brain cancer❤. I love y'alls videos so much. I'm always smiling while watching & truly laugh out loud with you. I hope so much goodness for y'all. 🙏God bless.
Love your videos, your baby is gorgeous, love his laugh, today has been hard for me but his laugh lifted me up high. All the best Pee x
What a lucky baby. The things he's seeing and doing.
For the past few videos I noticed Noah so much, and so much he looks like his daddy!!❤ at first he looked so much like Emma but now I see so much of Alex he even has your eye color I believe!!
My good news is I got a job last week, a good one, after 7 months of looking!!
So on the good news front, last week my husband and I were on holiday in Puerto Rico. And we did this small local bar hop tour. Well at the second location the other couple on the tour (there were only the 4 of us) got engaged!! We didn’t know them prior to that day but we all celebrated the rest of the day!
A great word for this video, confelicity; taking pleasure in the good fortune of others. I admit though that I do still fall prey to the opposite feelings of schadenfreude. ETA, I took great pleasure in the murmuring of birds that occured during the sunset shot.
Great word, I never heard that before but I have that for sure!
Great word! What’s better than being happy for your fellow man?well done beans!
Lovely video! I know Britain is old hat for you, but those of us in the U.S. enjoy the opportunity to see the UK. Great van too! Too bad it’s not for sale🙃. Safe travels!
Just wait till Noah starts talking it gets pretty hilarious.
I haven't had a lot of good news lately. I can say the sun is out, it's nice and warm, and I'm happy to be alive.
As soon as you mentioned Brighton I hoped you would also see them!
You both amaze me in how you cope with anything thrown at you................ OK I understand we don't see any of the meltdowns BUT............ I love your videos!
Or of them living in a house/air and b, or the e other life, I've lived in a van with a baby in the winter and it's horrific! U wouldn't put a baby through it let alone font go mad urself....
love Brighton! So glad you guys had heating in this van when it was freezing outside 🥶 Loving how talkative little Noah is. Also I got so excited when I saw you guys met up with Louis, Raya and Neo!
Omg Robbie is a ringer of Joe Wilkinson 😂😂😂😂😂
I think it’s Robbie’s voice and mannerisms 👍🏻
But you get that relieved feeling that you can make your own coffee
If there's a starling murmuring it'll happen every night in their roost. Might not happen next year though. Piers are a great spot, as they're roosting over relatively warmer water
I SOOOO love it when my favourite RUclipsrs do colabs together!!! xoxo
We love adventuring with the Beans!!! My wife and I would love to see you go to Hawaii next!! ❤
great idea!
The big van is fab guys ❤️❤️ honestly have no idea how you managed the wee one for so long, impressive 💪 we LOVE Brighton! It was our safe haven when we lived in the van in London, so much awesome food there. Sending love to all you guys and the cute munchkins ❤️ so flipping cute seeing you all explore together
Noah is so beautiful adorable and such a happy baby. I love seeing his adorable little face every time you post. 🥰🥰🥰🥰 And the aquarium looked amazing I love aquariums.
Loved seeing Brighton and especially watching Noah seeing the animals. It was neat to catch a glimpse of Raya and Louis too.
Really enjoyed learning about Brighton..Seeing Noah and Neo together was special💙💙💙
Good news here in Kelowna BC Canada, we’re now well above 0 into the +9-10 and it’s January 😀😀😀😀😀
My son left when he was 18 but you will never stop being a parent. You’ll eventually get more sleep
💤👍🏼😁
When you said you were in Brighton and meeting friends with a baby, I knew it was Raya and Louis! Love you all!
I’ve seen lots of Van life visits to Brighton but you showed things I’ve never seen. I loved all the murals and the Aquarium. Good job Beans.
You're absolutely right, seeing the sun in the cold. Makes a difference like the difference between the weather in Vancouver. British Columbia and Alberta is basically the sun. Alberta has son almost all the time. Where bc is gray if it's snowing or cold. And they have a much damper. Cold Alberta has a dry cold. Which really helps too our weather can get lower and we can feel better about it than in Vancouver. Because a minus five in vancouver In a sense almost feels equivalent to as a minus ten or fifteen in alberta
Kids, from a Yank who lived in England in '59 and '60, have visited several times since I understood the temperature issue. As a young man from Southern California who frequently swam in the Pacific Ocean in December, my arrival in the UK in December certainly got my attention. The strange part of this was I fell in love with England and even its weather. I now live in Las Vegas Nevada and the good news for me is, that today it was 23 c but the unwelcome news is that tomorrow, it is predicted to be 15 c. Several years ago, I had to go to Indianapolis, Indiana and there was a Polar Vortex that came through. The temperature went down to -34 c, and I can assure you one who was born in Southern California, and except for my two years in the UK, had lived all my life there, was simply not ready for those temperatures. If you visit Las Vegas during your next visit to the States, please consider contacting me as I would love to meet you and Noah.
No good news here. I'm living vicariously through you beans. I'm just getting over the flu. Have fun Beans!
That’s so nice that your friends with Raya, Louis and Neo! I watch them too.
A beautiful murnuration of starlings, seen quite often in the south of England
I’ve never seen a murmuration of starlings over water! They are often found over vineyards in Sonoma County, California. Beautiful to watch.
Totally recommend andalucia for family friendly winter sun! Lots of van sites- can get boat to Santander and drive down in van. Lots of great cultural and family friendly things for the littles. We have a house here, currently there with a 2 and 10month old and having a glorious time outside everyday in the sunshine xxxxx
A bit late but my today good news is: after 15 months of being unemployed i received 2 job offers. One for a seasonal job (6 months) at a sea location and the other one to replace an ex collegue of mine that will be absent from work for a surgery for 3 months.
Yay, i'm very happy.
Honey it will never stop spinning
Gotta comment: There are so many of these kinds of experiences in our world, Austin, TX, Key West are the ones that immediately come to mind but so many more whether it's sunsets or birds or....
It's called "a murmurration of starlings". They were brought to the US, and became a nuisance bird, driving out some of our native birds, but I do like to see them flying as a group. How do they know how to avoid crashes? Amazing.
Starlings as well as many other birds were brought to the US by an eccentric who wanted the US to have all the birds mentioned in Shakespeare.
Me and my son( who's a huge railway fan? have been watching your videos together for years. Thanks for all the content..we do our own adventures too, and you inspired it. Even though we can't afford a van. We just like exploring.
I noticed that Robbie took a dainty little bite of the Greggs sausage roll. It made me wonder if I am desperate and greedy as I will take half the sausage roll down in one.
-5 and a coffee machine has frozen in a camping coffee shop 🤣😂🤣 Uk is brilliant! They also have lots of problems when it's a "heat wave" 🤣😂🤣 All the best to you guys, your baby Noa is soooo cute 🥰😀
We bought our first fifth wheel! We leave for our North American trip in April! So fun!
How clever with the “play pen” area for the baby and strong enough for parents! Your van setup is so spacious to live in. Loving your walk through the town. Nice to share your day with friends and their good news. Well good news here in Maryland we are not as cold as you are experiencing. Had a bit of snow a few days ago but this has cleared up. Great video.
So exciting to watch this series and especially the meet up with Raya and Louis! Love the new van…..definitely have to get your own with similar space for everyone’s mental health!
You should really look at a total composite camper for your next rental. The are insulated much better.
Thank God for subtitles cuz when I heard you say we roll around in our own food it sounded like something else
The Sunset with the Starlings was amazing 🌅 Hopefully Noah's 1st words won't be the referees are "something" 🤣🤣🤣
Totes agree about the weather. We live in Australia and feel exactly the same way
Im got tears in my eyes when you sat down with Raya and Louis and got together.
Shareable headphones and a phone to watch RUclips or stream a movie is what you should do after he is asleep!
Feb 2018, snow in the centre of London, suburbs of London -13C outside during the day, -18C with windchill. I felt that, luckily it was the day before heading home to summer again.
Hello from Texas, it is warm here today…. My favorite Bean family❤❤❤
No way it's LOUIS!!!!! I haven't seen him in ages. Partner and baby! Hope they're all well. The birds 'floating' is a murmuration it's beautiful and one of those once in a lifetime things! Beautiful
Had 4 days of beautiful weather following the last atmospheric river storm, hear in Arizona. Waiting for the next storm to start. Will be driving up through the mountains on Monday to check out the new snow.
Robbie reminds me of Mackenzie Crook from the TV show Detectorists. Which means Alex is Lance, I wonder if they drink tea and talk about university challenge together.
Great and informative video as always...
You must know all the travel vloggers. Last time grabbing a drink with Marc Watson in a pub whose videos I planned my February Thailand trip around and now a night out with Robbie who I planned my December ski trip watching.
Crazy episode of winter storm
She is a trooper
You do know that campers are supposed to head south for the winter. In the U.S. we call those folks "snow birds". The minute the snow falls, everyone heads for Arizona, Florida, or Texas.
If you're going to have super high winds, park in an underground parking garage! If you're outside, point the van into the wind.
I was camping 2 years through with my GF in Austria, in the same van than yours. Here are some tips, how to make it really cosy for winter: 1) Fill out all holes on the sides with PU foam, until it starts to come out of the holes around, then take the next empty hole, aso, until it's totally sealed. do it from top to bottom until it comes out there everywhere and all is 100% sealed 2) Cover the inside with alu foil (take care to have clue everywhere and avoid any holes under the alu. 3) then cover it with whatever synthetic, thick textile you prefer, but again, never leave any space between the layers, or you'll get mold from the reflection. 4) cut the shape of the driver cab out of a tents front and clue it right behind the seats, so the hole front is sealed off, but accessable by the tents door. 5) put a breathing, not too thick curtain over the hole side door (if it doesn't breath enough - again refection and mold) 6) Add 3 BOSCH(14.6V max!) truck batteries in parallel to your converter and get a phase cutter(something that can drim Volts from 0 to 220 with a simple wheel, also get a "gold tube infrared lamp" and a batterie charger that's connected to the main batterie, to load them while driving, then hang the lamp directly over your bed and turn it down to 100 watts from around 3000 - that's fully enough and your hole bed gets warm and refects the heat into the bus, with minimal enérgy use + you can be lazy for at least 2 days, if you just wanna stay in bed (3 Bosch truck batteries). 6) i guess... build a thick styropor wall at the rear end, cover it with textile, cut out the windows, cover the cut out windows with a textile and press them in again at night - so you have view or warm. That's the main changes for winter camping - ask me if you want 100 more! 😅✌
PS: ALWAYS eat in bed! You can easily shake out a sheet without even putting your shoes on, but not your carpent.😉
I love when my favorite RUclipsr's end up all being friends! Love watching y'all interact with each other!
Great seeing you guys again and wonder have you 2 ever gotten together with @campervibe as they are in your area.
I used to spend Holidays there. Love it! I would love to move back to England
Good news: Temp has dropped to 65 here in Florida and I am loving the cooler weather....and I'm in a much better mood.
Great video and magical location. Keep warm. 🤗
Fun vlog guys. Brighton is still on my list to take my kids to. Now the Aquarium is on my list to. Thanks for sharing.
HELLO from Pueblo Colorado, USA! No ocean here to look at but we did get 4 inches of snow recently and the flakes were beautiful.
Child’s play is the best even for grown ups !embrace your inner child travelbeans ❤
You exemplify "home is where the heart is."
So nostalgic with great memories before we emigrated to Australia in 1964. Brighton Rocks!
Cool 😊
That van has an amazing layout
Love your show and I hope you do find the very same van that's for sale so you Family Beans can enjoy every minute on RV Life (Van life) Stay warm y'all.
My good news...my new wheelchair was delivered today. Hooray for mobility!
It is just SO expensive to park in Brighton. I happened to be there when Storm Ciaran was hitting and had to stop to get some spectacular photos by the marina. I managed to park at the end of Marine Drive for free for about half an hour while I was taking photos. Couldn't believe it even if it was in a storm in November. I guess the parking enforcers didn't want to be out in it!
Brilliant video 👏. So want to play that indoor mini golf ⛳. I so want to see you go to the The Azores. We went there is 2018 was amazing 🤩
Love watching your videos from a million miles away in South Africa. ❤ Wish you guys all the best with your travels. Noah is so adorable. ❤ I'm half British. My dad was born in London. He came to South Africa in the mid 1960's. He passed away 3 and a half years ago tomorrow from a spine operation. He had just turned 85. My mom passed away 6 years ago today the 30th January. She had just turned 89.😢❤
I love seeing your excitement when you’re in the auditorium in Brighton. One of the reasons why I love seeing your videos is to see places I should put on my list of places to visit. And good to see that you’re in a van with more space albeit temporarily. I hope you’re able to get another van.
As always, loved watching the Three Bean Adventure.
SUN makes everything BETTER
