⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. We started our son off in our old VW T2 at 4 months old going away in the summers !! for 2 months at a time.
We bought and converted a T6 3 years ago doing the same, our son, 19 now has just been away surfing in the van for the first time.
Noah will love and cherish his van life, well done you two!!!

I started following you all at separate times after you all visited Finland, and I then subscribed to each because you all such lovely people.
Exciting. You have finally met up with "Flying the Nest".. so fun. Hope you enjoyed meeting for the first time and you enjoyed your time together.
Letting air out of the tires would probably give more traction. But you would need an air compressor to air them back up when you are back on the road.
It's pretty amazing what people can do with plywood and 2x4's! That little BnB had a fairytale quality.

I had a minor worry about how Noah would affect your travels. But you guys are so able to cope with any situation that of course there's no issue with van life and parenting! I wish I could have done something similar for my kids when they were little.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I absolutely love it when my favourite youtubers meet up and hang out together 😁❤️

When you are stuck in the mud or snow, you never want to spin the wheels. You be more successful in “ rocking “ the van back and forth will slowly get you out.
Emma a couple of of road driving tips (1) if you know the tyre pressure let out about 10 to 15psi from the drive wheels (2) use second gear not first to start off keep the momentum steady only stop when you feel the tyres have a firm grip reinflate tyres at first opertunity.
Plus never start off with foot flat on the accelerater

There always seem to be some sort of crazy troubles when we try to go on adventures but I try to make the best of it. So glad you ended up have some fun.
Hi Travel Beans. With Regards to your Loved Diesel Heater. Please insure you have a CARBON MONOXIDE detector in the van. The fumes from burning diesel are deadly if they get into the van while you sleep.
Also periodically check the diesel heaters exhaust to make sure it’s all in good condition and the outlet is not blocked by insects or dirt.

You can have hair extensions made from goats hair, but only short, like his beard and only comes in white. They are even used in paint and cosmetic brushes.

How fun! So glad you made some new friends. I had a disastrous camping trip with my sister and her husband. I am NOT a camper but, they talked me into it. We slept in tents in a State Park in South Dakota with the intention of going fishing. My air mattress was made of a non-breathable material and leaked air so I sweated all night and when I woke up I was basically on the ground. It was also the hottest temperatures ever recorded and the mowers came to mow around us at 8 am. Needless to say, it was not pleasant but, as you pointed out, those are the things that make lasting memories which we can laugh about later. Noah has mommies eyes BTW.

Thanks for sharing the experience, seems there were defiantly some ups and downs but you all handled it well and ended up pulling some really positive experiences out of it. Nice! It might be time to upgrade the UK van to something a little bit more dependable, that or get some upgrades done to the current bean mobile. Anyway, cheers guys, see you on your next adventure! 🤘🏼

I would recommend you guys get some traction boards lol. Kind of like driving over the levelers/chocks, but they're flat and made for that £40-£80 I think some people even use their traction boards as improvised levelers.
And maybe a Come-Along winch. It's like a much cheaper, hand-crank alternative to a winch and doesn't require you mount it to the frame of your van. You can usually get them for less than £50. And maybe a tree-saver strap to go with it so you don't cut into any trees in case there's nothing else to anchor to.
Just a suggestion.
Also somehow I've never noticed Emma has her tongue pierced. I've always thought about it for myself. Looks cool IMO.

Er, guys don't know if anyone's already said this ... but place something under your driving wheels BEFORE spending a night & letting the van start to sink under it's own weight. Won't say I've never been stuck (wouldn't be true) but rarely ... I currently have a couple of packs of lightweight plastic tracks for my small van so I can inch forward from one set to the next but for years I travelled with a couple of lengths of scaffolding board stashed in the wardrobe - worked fine but did tend to fly off rather dangerously when the van lurched off ... I drove an RV as a single Mum across the States in 2013 and smaller trips after until 2018.

Broke down in every one, crazy RV quirks, got lots of hilarious stories I can look back on.
And a fair warning about future adventures....my sons named Noah, and very much has the adventurous spirit,so if yours ends up with one, be prepared!

Just a note changing Noah's diapers in the van can be horrible smells too, but one thing I learned is to get several odor absorbing hanging bags and leave in the vehicle out of sight and those smells will be long gone as well as a diaper genie.

Great video, trials and all. When getting stuck, best to keep the front wheels straight (FWD and RWD). It greatly decreases resistance.

Saturday night I hooked up the jeep to the back of the motorhome in preparation for an early start on my trip south for the winter. Checking the lights and there's now no running lights! Took two days and a lot of @#$&^ to run down the problem. Today I finish putting things back together and hopefully I'll be on the road again tomorrow.
Sometimes life delivers ups and downs.. what we learn and use moving forward is what counts .. keep up the great stuff

DC power (battery) Is so simple. should be very easy to find the problem. And if it is a failed component, easy to replace too.
