I loved the look before the stain dried, basically the natural look of the wood. Then again I grew up with a parquet floor which we hand oiled a few times a year.
Very beautiful. In the U.K. we in the 1960s used to call this type of floor as “parquet” flooring. It was very popular in quality houses, school halls, libraries and general reception areas. We could keep you guys extremely busy restoring millions of them now!
Excellent restoration! Well done! I’m so happy to see a parquet floor restored vice being trashed! I would have chosen a darker colour! Though the matte finish was nice.
I would love this floor no matter what caller, it turned out absolutely a labor of love. I grew up with hardwood floors and I can remember my mother on her hands and knees waxing the floor which also was a labor of love. Absolutely, incredible.❤🎉😊
For the floor, I prefer the original or something similar that shows the grain. For the room, though, it's a much brighter place with the lighter finish.
I have parquet floors in my open concept entry, great room, kitchen and the hallways. We’ve had it refinished twice. I too, thought I wanted a dark stain the second refinishing. The flooring man really didn’t recommend it, and ended up saying his supplier couldn’t get it. It has a light tint now. I do love the just sanded look and will go with no color the next refinishing. Your work is a thing of beauty, especially when you troweled on the filler. ❤
Depending on the finish, sanding a hardwood floor may not be necessary. If it is an old wax finish, 0000 steel wool and varsol will clean it and leave it ready for a new wax finish.
I prefer a deeper colour than the final product, something closer to the original. I understand that they wanted a different, lighter look, but they've lost some of that beautiful woodgrain and patterning that way.
That edge sander really goes right to the edge ! Lovely work. The new colour really brightens the room. No rugs for me - I'd never cover it up. And easier then to hoover too :) Greetings from Prague CZ
Beautiful job! Shame we don't have these floors (and the companies to maintain them) around here anymore. Couldn't find one to fix damage to our old waxed oak floor anymore (leaky plant pot, water went unnoticed through the rug and the wood turned black and shrunk, very ugly)
Customer went from a “dated” to an “updated” look. I might have gone with a satin verses a “matte” finish just to kick a bit more depth into the wood but the color is perfect and “current”.
Awesome videos bro! And top notch craftsmanship! Question I have..what is the idea behind mixing grits on multidisc? Can’t seem to figure out this one:)
Thanks mate 👍🏻 With the multidisc I find this works for me on certain soft timbers that we sand. I used to use a set of 60g then a set of 80g and finally a set of 100g papers to finish the floor but a was watching a RUclips vid and saw a guy put alternating grits on a Bona power drive. I gave it a go and I’ve never looked back since, I put 2 60g, 2 80g and 2 100g all on the bottom of the epoch and it cuts the time of sanding in half. I’ve been doing it for a couple of years now and haven’t had any problems with it. If you’re sanding extremely hard timber or putting a stain on I would then take 6 120grit papers and finish it on that.
Interesting, just don’s see how would you know that the last paper touching a floor is the highest grit. I guess that would’t matter on natural floor though. Thanks for replying. Your floors look beautiful 👍
Wait, what do you do with the samples? Do you sand the whole floor again? You can’t just do the one section right? Because then it would be lower than the rest of the floor.
Your client has good taste and thank the gods, an open mind ! I always look at flooring with the most neutral color, like here being the best. If going with a richer color don't dilly dally with the normal yellows to browns....go extreme !
I am maybe in the minority but I loved the imperfections in the floor before they were filled and matted over. To me the after shots make the floor look like a cheaper laminate or vinyl floor.
5:06 oh thank gawd! Interior designer here ... look at the richness of the grain and just how delectable all that detail is ... while drastically minimizing the contrast (of the former dark stain) to those white/light walls ... that pattern will stand out and can hold it's own; no fighting or vying for -the eye's- attention (as what can happen with the former contrast/difference) because it doesn’t need to ... the light stain allows the complexity of the pattern and grain to be showcased/receive its due attention. Love it! Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. 🕊 🫶 💪 🪷
I visited a house where they had used an ebony stain. Not sure if any other house could’ve pulled it off (it was an old Victorian with original flooring), and the grain just popped with the lighting.
I think it looks great. Parkay flooring can look really dated sometimes. This has a very clean and modern vibe. I would love to see it with the furnishings in the room. That light colored floor won't go well with all types of decor. The other types of flooring in the house might alter my opinion as well.
I would only agree to prior color or as close as possible, but not lighter. The grain barely shows off with that light color. That's part of the preference for this flooring choice!!! I don't like the darker choices either. Watching the final clips, I would want the "wet" finish shade!
Cheers! So 3rd sand is our buffing and we actually do this with the American Sanders Epoch rotary buffer and we use a combo of 60grit and 80grit 125mm discs on the multi head. We have some more full videos showing this process 👍🏻
Thought you might lose the intricacies of the pattern in such a light tone. Generally like darker floors but this is really beautiful and it just lightens and refreshes the whole space. Edit: Forgot to mention the matte finish. Again, used to super glossy floors, but it is the perfect finish for this project. Really, really like because you don't get those reflections.
The harsh light kind of washes out the details in the grain with the lighter coat. So, I think something in between the before and after would have been a better choice. Oh well.
Well done but not the choice I would’ve made. I would’ve leaned towards something between the original and the customer’s choice to get a bit more out of the grain. The matte finish definitely works for me though. Hell of a nice job though.
You guys did an awesome and thorough job but I much prefer the older, bolder color that shows off more of the wood's grain and character. The lighter color just mutes the entire experience, but maybe that's what they were going for?
The final color is a bit light for my taste, but it’s not my floor…so. Also don’t forget over time it will oxidize and darken quite a bit, which will make the beautiful grain pop…great job…
I prefer the 'before' colour. But then as a child of the 1960s dark is the 'proper' colour for wood. How I lament the fact that you can't import Mahogany anymore. (Rightly so, but it is a magnificent material)
Personally I liked the darker floor better. I would have gone with that and added colour on the walls. The final result was muted beige and white giving the room a washed out look.

Looks great! The sun bleached look is very contemporary. It opens the room up. Also gives you the option for darker walls
OMG! That is the most stunning floor. And such a beautiful job of restoring! Unbelieveable.
The new lighter floor looks beautiful! Great job! Looks new & fresh!
Beautiful!!! I love the natural color of the wood...❤
Excellent restoration! Well done! I’m so happy to see a parquet floor restored vice being trashed!
I would have chosen a darker colour! Though the matte finish was nice.
Nice! Finally someone that finished it close to the original colour of the oak. That’s how it should be. Not some orange glossy nasty mess.
I would love this floor no matter what caller, it turned out absolutely a labor of love. I grew up with hardwood floors and I can remember my mother on her hands and knees waxing the floor which also was a labor of love.
Absolutely, incredible.❤🎉😊
I like the dark floors. That is what they used to use
Beautiful. Your videos help me with my anxiety. Watching them calms me down. Thank you!
Oh that’s so great to hear cheers mate!
Absolutely first-class job guys!!
Cheers!! 🙌🏻

That final color is much more versatile with todays furnishings and looks beautiful. 👍
The final version was pleasing , but for me I really liked the freshly sanded finish !!!
I would never have picked this color, actually, no color, until I saw the results. Excellent!
Love white oak - looks great
Absolutely stunning. Love the lightness with the parquet pattern!
This has to be one of the most informative videos I've ever seen! It was fascinating to watch. (Floor looks great too lol)
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙌🏻
Uauuu, the most beautiful flooring I’ve ever seen, pure beauty and art! What a pristine piece!
Wow, thank you!
Stunning! I lime stained my full stave oak worktops. It's truly beautiful and used knots and grain to bring life to the wood. ❤
Am I the only one who loves seeing the sandpaper spin onto the sander!💚🤗
One of the best parts ;)

Splendide ! Une belle restauration
Stunning!
What a gorgeous floor. Great job!❤❤
Thanks so much!
You picked to right colour. A super finish
Light for sure!
That is some stunning wood, American white oak parquet? ooft!
The after is absolutely stunning. So much light in that room. I don't understand why anyone wants dark floors. That looks so nice
I love the freshly sanded color
Amazing result 👏
EXCELLENT JOB
Beautiful job 👏🏻
Yep @627 looks marvelous 😊
Just gorgeous!
Hello, I found your channel todayand love it, working my way through all your videos now. Best wishes Christine x (London UK)
Welcome! And thank you for your support 👌🏻
Love that pattern. I liked all the colors
very nicely done!
Exquisite! It is quite beautiful.
I prefer a deeper colour than the final product, something closer to the original. I understand that they wanted a different, lighter look, but they've lost some of that beautiful woodgrain and patterning that way.
Yup,the end result is very disappointing.
👏👏. Job well done. I prefer the colour she chose.
Looks perfect to me ! Exactly the way I wld have gone !
I think you did really well offering them a lighter finish. Looks less dated and has more of a Scandinavian vibe now. Great job 😎✨
dated doesnt mean bad lol btw

I’d have just gone for a clear varnish, but certainly would steer away from any of the dark stains, I love to let the colour of the wood shine through

The new color definitely suits the room better.
The last pass is the most satisfying 🥴
Beautiful ❤
I bet that looks many times better in person. So much detail is lost in a video on a screen
Customer went from a “dated” to an “updated” look. I might have gone with a satin verses a “matte” finish just to kick a bit more depth into the wood but the color is perfect and “current”.
How much extra sanding did you need to do to remove the darker trial areas?
Faded out the beautiful grain patterns of the wood with that light color.
The floor looked the best after the first coat of the finish when the caption said "before doing the second and final coat".
Beaut job!
Liked it as it was ;-)
Fair enough. Think that’s the great thing about timber, you can change the colour to suit your taste without ripping it up completely 👌🏻
Back breaking work!
Awesomeness
The deeper color. 👍🏻
I love the lighter look! To me the darker stain 'feels' oppressive, but to each their own, eh.

That's it - this shade leaves all options open for interior design; the dark shade is very dominant.
19 million times better!
Perfect 👌 , what vacuum is attached to your buffer ?
What did the stain samples look like after you finished the project? Were those areas darker?
I am maybe in the minority but I loved the imperfections in the floor before they were filled and matted over. To me the after shots make the floor look like a cheaper laminate or vinyl floor.

I'd pick light grey or white.
I visited a house where they had used an ebony stain. Not sure if any other house could’ve pulled it off (it was an old Victorian with original flooring), and the grain just popped with the lighting.
I would have chose a little darker, but it is beautiful!
Very nice
This pattern is named Parquet of Versailles. They used Wax to keep the floor nice.
The color looks a lot better. Now she needs to paint that dark cabinet in the other room.
I played the video in reverse and like how the job came out.
I think it looks great. Parkay flooring can look really dated sometimes. This has a very clean and modern vibe. I would love to see it with the furnishings in the room. Dated is sometimes better like in this case though.
That grain raise from the waterbased sealer will rip your socks off buff with 220 between coats

I like the darker color myself.
I would keep it the natural color!
Something in between what it was and what is now, only because it shows the diff wood movement better
Beautiful more modern
…the sanding dust has some of the old finish in it- does that affect how it works as filler?
Yes it does, that’s why it is important to use the dust from your second sand 👍🏻
@@QuicksandFlooring What mesh sanding screen did you sift the dust through?
120grit 👍🏻
Very nice! What grid sandpaper did you use for the 3rd sanding, also what you use for buffing?

🌸 I prefer it at 6:27 the client has terrible taste if she chose that washed out look
It’s dreadful 🥺
yeah
You guys did an awesome and thorough job but I much prefer the older, bolder color that shows off more of the wood's grain and character. The lighter color just mutes the entire experience, but maybe that's what they were going for?
I personally wouldn't go dark. Dark is a nightmare to keep clean. I regretted that decision & never again.
Gets so flat with the Galaxy. The Hummel and all other machines are so Mickey Mouse compared to the Galaxy. Nice job.
Galaxy for the win mate 👌🏻
Soooo happy she chose that one! The others hid the beauty.

The floor is beautiful but that shade washes out the room, imo. Hopefully they paint to add some contrast so the floor will really pop.
