Within a few seconds of High For This, Kevin said it gave him the feeling of an Alfred Hitchcock film and I thought that was a cool observation because of how much Abel was inspired by horror filmmakers like Hitchcock and John Carpenter and that’s why so much of his earlier works (Trilogy & KissLand) feel/sound the way they do.

This is what got me into The Weeknd way back in 2011. At the time I don't think anyone knew how big he would become. But anyone who listened to him felt like they were part of this awesome club. Was good times.
house of balloons was a cultural reset when it came out - both the whole mixtape and hob / gtg song. i’ll argue that it’s in the top 3 of his whole discography and hob is his greatest song. i have to add that hearing the morning and wicked games at his concert this summer was the best thing ever
This for me was the peak of Abel’s music. Every damn song resonated with me so damn hard. I was in a very dark place at the time and I somehow felt heard. Like I wasn’t alone doing all that shit idk. This sound so fresh, dark and unique even 10 years after it release.
Hearing this mixtape 11 years ago was an amazing experience. Since hes exactly our age, and we were all doing all the same thing he was doing, he really painted a picture. From being one the few fans to actually give him a shot and watching him grow to now its incredible.
House Of Balloons / Glass Table Girls is by far one of my favorites, but i came to notice no one mentions the first part is a sample of Happy House by Siouxsie And The Banshees. Which makes the song even more legendary since he paid such a beautiful tribute :-)

This is what got me into The Weeknd way back in 2011. At the time I don't think anyone knew how big he would become. But anyone who listened to him felt like they were part of this awesome club. Was good times.
The only way I could listen to album was on RUclips with individual songs until I bought the CD lmao
Seeing these 2 jam along to House of balloons has made my day
These 3 tapes are his best music, knew he’d go on to be a big star but never thought he’d be this big
He’s the goat
What a gift being able to see someone hear Wicked Games for the first time. I got so pumped seeing Kevin freak out at how good it is.
This mixtape made me fall in love with music, it made me feel emotions so intensely and deeply. I wish I could listen to it for the first time again 😭
LET’S GOOO. MY ALL TIME FAVORITE WEEKND PROJECT. 🎈🎈🎈
house of balloons was a cultural reset when it came out - both the whole mixtape and hob / gtg song. i’ll argue that it’s in the top 3 of his whole discography and hob is his greatest song. i have to add that hearing the morning and wicked games at his concert this summer was the best thing ever
100% my favourite era of The Weeknd🩸
Yep, the new stuff is trash
@@alexhall2308 Whoaaa Dawn FM and After Hours are still great. This just has a different feel
This for me was the peak of Abel’s music. Every damn song resonated with me so damn hard. I was in a very dark place at the time and I somehow felt heard. Like I wasn’t alone doing all that shit idk. This sound so fresh, dark and unique even 10 years after it release.
House of Balloons is still my fav project from the man
That blues riff in the morning is one of the best ive ever heard. Ever since I heard it in 2011 havent been able to get it out of my head
It actually changed my life
Hearing this mixtape 11 years ago was an amazing experience. Since hes exactly our age, and we were all doing all the same thing he was doing, he really painted a picture. From being one the few fans to actually give him a shot and watching him grow to now its incredible.
Litt…same age here and deff spoke for us and voiced the lifestyle
Most influential R&B album of the modern era. You can't even argue it.
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME HOLY FUCK IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS VIDEO WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE IT
Real
High for this still gives me chills
Text me on Telegram got something special for you....🎁🎁
House Of Balloons / Glass Table Girls is by far one of my favorites, but i came to notice no one mentions the first part is a sample of Happy House by Siouxsie And The Banshees. Which makes the song even more legendary since he paid such a beautiful tribute :-)
This project will always be one of the most special to me. It really helped me when I was in a terrible place. Truly don't know if I'm alive without it and I'm really happy Kevin got to hear this masterpiece I wish I could hear it for the first time again
This mixtape completely changed the way I felt about music. I think I was 15 when I first heard it. So cool to see someone listen for the first time.
I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS
This is his best work, nothing like it.I’m a die hard weeknd fan and it still gives me chills every time I hear this album
Now you have no choice but to continue with the trilogy.. Thursday and Echoes of Silence are each different but masterclasses without a doubt. Can’t wait
🤗 yep and Kiss 💋Land after that💯💯
Happy Holidays everyone! XO
wish I could listen to this album for the first time again!!
This literally butts heads with my favorite albums of all time. The atmosphere, the beauty of these melodies, and the replay value are insane....to see that first reaction that I remember having was amazing.
Your pops is so lucky man, I wish I would listen to this album for the first time again ❤️
Was waiting so long for this reaction. House of Ballonos just does something to me every time I listen to it.
The Weeknd is incredible
It’s honestly so cool watching someone listen to these songs for the first time and it makes me wish I could hear these for the first time aswell cuz they’re honestly perfection 😭😭
The Weeknd really is just a genius. I will always be in awe of what he has accomplished in his career. Def my favorite artist of all time
man coming down has a special place in my heart. gives me goosebumps every time the beginning starts with the wind blowing and that dark cold soundscape
💯💯
On god, so underrated
The balloons in the background are a really nice touch. Also I've been seeing Because The Internet vinyl in the background lately. Hope you guys react to that someday.
Your dad's reaction are evrything, I get the same reaction to Abel's music. This boy was destined for greatness.
update: I wrote this before your dad said the exact same thing... WOW
I'm loving the balloons in the background! Very fitting ❤
haven’t heard The Morning in a year coz i listened to it like 200-400 times last year, hearing it here gave me full body chills. aye thank u, nothing will top hearing this for the first time. luv yall 💜
I love the way they decorated the room with balloons, just to listen to the HOUSE OF BALLOONS. Shout out to my bros Kevin and Connor
I often cry to The Weeknd’s songs, and not because the lyrics are relatable or sad or anything, but simply because his voice is so angelic. His voice is so beautiful that I cry almost every day listening to his music.
We need Daft Punk Discovery. Their best album and one of the best Dance/Electronic records of all time
First song I ever heard from The Weeknd was “High For This” and my first thought was “yo who tf sounds like this?! This is amazing”
God, I played this album into the ground when it first came out. I graduated college shortly before this album dropped and it was the soundtrack for my life.
Coming down will always be my favorite song of all time 🙌🏽
Thank you so much for this! i was 18 when I first heard this album and now I'm sitting at 28 and it hits even harder that 10 years prior. GOAT of our generation
100% my favorite mixtape of all time, and a top 2 Weeknd project along with After Hours. It’s crazy that over a decade ago he released my favorite mixtape, and in 2022 he released a top 5 album of the year & has my song of the year with Creepin. One of the greatest of all time , so thankful for Abel
Absolutely mindblowing that Abel made this mixtape when he was 19/20 years old. One my top 10 projects of all time.
Plus he was homeless back then too. Crazy how far he has gotten in 11 years. Proud of the man :D
I remember my first time ever hearing The Weeknd, I was obsessed straight away! I totally forgot we didn't know what he looked like back then!
If you guys can collaborate with @Bob the Poppop to do the second instalment or even the rest of trilogy that would be insane. You’ve both loved House Of Balloons and want to explore more. The XO fans would be forever grateful. Love the content
amazing idea ngl
Yes hoping so. I'm still waiting on Bob to react to Thursday.
Been waiting for way toooooo long for the rest of the discog.
I have to say this reaction was awesome! Wicked games was the first ever Weeknd song I heard and I had the same reaction. Greatest trilogy of all time!
My boy first showed this song to me in 2011 and I truly never heard anything like the song or Abel’s voice. And hence began my 12 year+ fandom of “The Weeknd”😊
So jealous your father gets to listen to this for the first time! Glad you guys appreciate the masterpiece that this is, and I'm looking forward to the rest of Trilogy
💯💯💯
One of the greatest albums ever. i know Abel is proud of this project. You just had to be there in the XO timeline to understand the hype of this. Always feel an emotion with Coming Down & the hype of HOB/GTG
I wish i could do this with my dad. I definitely got my dad into The Weeknd but I truly don't think my dad would be able to pick apart and appreciate it as much as this dad is able to. Absolutely love this. I hope we get a Dad Reacts to Kiss Land !!
So much nostalgia attached to this record. Hard to overstate just how much we listened to this over and over again in the place I lived in Van in 2012. You always knew someone was getting lucky when you heard High For This playing through the walls! 😂
