This in my opinion is the Weeknds best written and most cohesive album. Anyone who is really XO knows this is one of his best projects. It may not have any major radio singles but it’s a concept album and people don’t appreciate that. I fucking love this album so much. What’s crazy is it’s the only weeknd album that didn’t hit for me on first listen every listen of this album it got better. Tears in the rain is the best weeknd song of all time also
In his interview, The Weeknd did say this album was very lyrical compared to his other projects, and he actually prefer to do these types of songs but it's just not going to be commercially successful.
The Cole tape is cool, but this is SO much cooler. As much praise as this album gets, I still find it underrated. The level of musicality in the production goes unnoticed. These instrumentals are INSANE for someone who just got a cosign from Drake (not a dig at Drake either btw) but the textures of synths, and strings and guitars... it's like an album from The Cure on steroids with 808s lol I can nerd out over this thing forever
Perfectly put. What do you think about the groungy guitarnin the town? Probably one of my favourite musical bits of all time, you can check out fallout 2- redding theme wherenInhave heard the same sample
love that you commented on how the songs are 'patient' as I see people say this album is boring, but in my opinion the slow sonic spaces it creates are similar to atmospheres created in 'Blonde' and 'Untrue' by Burial
I'd say House of Balloons is his magnum opus just for the pure fact that it was his 1st full piece as The Weeknd, the impact it had, as well as the quality overall. No misses. Kissland to me would be either 2 or 3 competing with After Hours. Kissland is so unique tho, so I can see the argument for it being #1

Love your take on how Abel explores the Ugliness of his lifestyle & personality he embodies as "The Weeknd". You dissected it eloquently, Thank you! Can't wait for After Hours Reaction which is also a complete and cohesive body of work imo.
This album is like Trilogy on a grander scale, like the Trilogy was for his time in Montreal or 65 Spencer (the actual House of Balloons), but Kissland is that darkness spreading throughout a much larger landscape.
After Hours is Trilogy on a grander scale, if we’re being forreal. It’s like Abel returning to his Trilogy roots but carrying along all the experience and evolutions he’s made at that point in his career. Kiss Land is very much it’s own thing, and I think that’s a great thing
@@logan-pe4rm I agree After Hours (my favorite album of his) is bigger than both definitely, but Kiss Land isn't its own thing. It's definitely an evolution of Trilogy. It has the same energy. He's on record saying After Hours doesn't exist without Kiss Land...but to dial it back, let's leave After Hours over there since I wasn't talking about that album. You are probably one of the best reactors out there on youtube. The way you pay attention to every single detail, from the production to lyrics to symbolsim to everything. 10/10 way of reacting to music 👏🏼👏🏼
you like it more then HoB, Thursday, EoS, After Hours and MDM? Well, TECHNICALLY all of those except for After Hours are mixtapes/EPs so they don’t technically classify as albums. On a literal level, The Weeknd’s only studio albums are Kiss Land, Beauty Behind The Madness, Starboy, After Hours, Dawn FM. Hopefully I didn’t miss one. So, with that in mind and working within those restrictions, I still think I prefer After Hours. It captures the same sinister cinematic feel of Kiss Land, but it feels more cohesive and concise to me. However, Kiss Land has some of my favorite Abel tracks ever. I wouldn’t wanna live a world where I had to choose between these two records. I totally respect your decision though bro. I wonder what makes this your favorite specifically though?
Probably his best album lyrically and vocally. Crazy how I wasn’t the biggest fan of this project when it initially released, it took me a few years to get into. Album gets better the more you listen to it.
I hope I'm not coming off condescending but it sounds like you don't know, he's actually done a fair few other R&B albums. In terms of contemporary R&B, he's done The Weeknd's mixtape trilogy, KTSE by Teyana Taylor, SZA's two albums, and Beyoncé's Lemonade (and Renaissance but obviously that's more house than R&B). He's also done Thriller by Michael Jackson if you want something more old school, and he's done Voodoo by D'Angelo and Baduizm by Erykah Badu if you like neo soul
his best body of work is Trilogy (it’s easier than listing all 3 of those mixtape titles and I prefer the Trilogy mixes for most songs) but I totally respect your opinion
same i love this more than any of his other album wise coz you know the vids for this the transitions after songs are some god tier shit . And also i was in that stage of life where i had some shit going through and i just found this gem and just grabbed it off and he became my music god
I'm so glad you enjoyed Kiss Land, and you basically nailed it on what the album was trying to convey. My favorite part of your reactions are your interpretations.
For me, this is The Weeknd’s best album. It encapsulates all the fear and isolation clashing with the excitement, and the vastness of the possibilities fame can offer you. Somehow it’s so spacious and so claustrophobic at the same time. Industrial in a way that feels otherworldly, like a glimpse into a life most of us will never know. A masterpiece the world wasn’t ready for, in my opinion.

I really like how you focused on the thematical concept of the weeknd hiding the “ugly” in his music and it really fits with the title of his next album titled Beauty behind the madness. BBTM is one of his most criticized albums because it’s when he transitioned from r&b to pop, but if there’s someone I can see still being able to derive a theme/message from it, it’s you lol. The music videos for bbtm are really interesting too.
tears in the rain and wicked games will always be my fav songs EVER if you want to skip ahead in his discography, i think skipping to my dear melancholy is a good spot. its like the warm up before the newest trilogy. it’s extremely personal. it’s also rly short because it’s an EP
Bob, really hope you see this. This is my favorite Weeknd body of work. Right when you said "i might listen and not read along more" after talking about how 'i decide when we're through' ties into the silence in the first track, i realized i hadn't put that together myself, and ive heard this song a hundred times 😂. Just somehing to think about. But again, as you said, dont let other people tell you how to listen to music 🤣
"belong to the world" is about Abel comparing himself and relating to a hooker (a girl of the streets) the world in this context meaning the streets, he acknowledges he should stereotypically mistreat her as people see hookers as lesser women but he relates to her experience because of how he sees his tour life and broken relationship because of that tour, sge was the first that made him love and smile because it was the first person that have a similar experience in a sense, not my favourite song on the album but it's a perfect song to sum up the theme of the whole album

to help you prepare for the next weeknd album, you should give some weeknds producer Onoehtrix Point Never albums a review! he has been instrumental and absolutely overlooked for his contributions to this trilogy thus far
The background vocals or sample in the Kiss Land chorus that you couldn't put your finger on (@ 1:01:31) mimics the rhythm / cadence of the chorus of Live For. I'm sure it's intentional for some reason.
Whole album is so underrated especially Tears In The Rain i love this song with my whole heart
i still like to gate keep tears in the rain so its good imo
Kiss Land is such a masterpiece Abel's best album imo
Favorite song is love in the sky; this is his first true album. He was so expressive with production and the story of himself changing and shifting in this phase. Saw him live and he gave sooo much fan service in this era. One of my favorite of all time.
Can’t believe u skipped the best part of professional “cuz it’s just love it always makes it way back around” 😩
