iPhone Field Test Mode Signal Strength Indicator

- A slick trick to seeing a numerical indicator for your cell signal strength is to use Field Test Mode. You can access Field Test Mode by dialing 3001#12345# from the dialpad. I'll show you how that works and what those decibel indicators represent. This works on iPhone 6, 7 or 8 and IOS 10.3.1 or higher.

If you have iPhone with an intel chipset (models A1778 or A1784) then you can make this work. If you have a Qualcomm chipset (models A1660 or A1661) it has a different menu and does not currently show the signal strength indicator.

@@giopz6598 he mean the Intel cellular chipset, not the SoC Apple chipset which features for example the A11 Bionic processor on it. Yes he should mention the technical terms correctly but it's ok I understand what he meant.

doesn't work for me at all, U.S. Cellular LTE both iPhone 5s and iPhone 6s Plus. Any help would be appreciated. In my experience it just dials the number and I get a beeping sound.

So it seems you can't just set this up as a contact (tapping the "call mobile" in the contact itself. You actually have to "tap" the call button manually. It is a simple number to remember though :)

Hello, I need some help if you could give me a hand or know where I need to go.. when I type *#21# I get Error performing request Unknown Error at the top. Then after that is the following, Setting Interrogation Failed: this is the start for 8 things in a list, 1st one is Voice Call Forwarding On All Calls.
Call Forwarding on All Calls for all 8 on the back of items like … Data, SMS, Sync Data Circuit, Fax, Async Data Circuit Call, Packet Access, Pad Access, and very bottoms a big Dismiss button.
How do I get rid of or turn these off. I’m not getting calls or text messages at all. Please and thank you.

Measured RSRP signal strength mine was today at 3/12/19 @ 6:19 PM -65.75 dbm -40 is really good and -150 is no signal. this is what your signal strength will be, took me a little time, if you don't see it, YOU MUST RESTART YOUR PHONE AND TRY AGAIN! hope this help. i nice to know what the signal strength really is.

How do you get it to replace the bars. I tried the method from ur last vid but it doesn’t work. I have ios 11.2 iphone 8 plus.

The bars option no longer works in iOS 10.3.1 or higher. They removed it from the iPhone. The only workaround is to view the signal strength indicator in the field test menu. The menus are different depending on carrier and phone but this video covers one of the more common ones.

I tried this with iPhone 8S and that number takes me to an AT&T Dashboard, not a Field Test screen. Is there a different method for accessing the field test in this older model iPhone?
I was able to use these options on older iphones but newer models have additional menus. You may be able to drill down to get to the serving cell measure menu though.

You may have a setting for Measurement RSSI or rxAGC0. Those also show the dBm signal strength. Do you have either of those?
It is in Servicing Cell Measurements, but not seeing how to get it to where the bars are in iOS 11
That functionality was removed with iOS 11. You can only view cell signal strength from the menu now.

It is actually still possible to get signal levels on some iPhones running iOS 11 and newer.

I have an iPhone 5S and can't get the signal strength numbers using the present system. How do i get the numbers instead of the bars? I use Verizon.
With iOS 10.3 and above that option has been removed. The only thing you can do now is view the signal strength in the field test mode menu as shown in the video. No indication that Apple will bring it back anytime soon.
Thanks for the reply. My screens are totally different than yours. However, I do come up with a screen that has "Average RSRP" and "Measured RSRP". Are those values similar to your screen's rsrp0 and rsrp1?
My version is 11.2.2 and I'm about to download version 11.2.5.

I have an iPhone XS with iOS 13.4.1 and use it as a hotspot for my laptop regularly. Unfortunately the hotspot drops out a lot (even with the previous iOS).
I’ve googled the issue and see it’s not just me or my service provider. I also can’t seem to find a solution that helps or explains it well.
If you’re aware of a possible fix for iPhone settings, I would love to see a video from you on how to stop these dropouts as they’re extremely frustrating!
I'm not aware of the solution to this yet but it appears to be a common problem. I suspect it is a bug that Apple will have to address so there is no workaround. It may not resolve it but you could do a factory reset on your phone and test it before restoring your data. If it has the same problem then it has to be your phone hardware and would need to be replaced or it's a bug that has not been fixed yet.

No. Make sure you have a star at the beginning and ending.
Quick question, if it goes around -70 from the -100 will that also boost up 4G data speed or it’s only for voice on?
The boost work for both voice and data. It is the connection with the tower.

Yes, we have seen a few combinations, some with the signal indicator and some without. The carrier and chipset on the phone both make a difference after iOS update 10.3.1. I have it working on T-Mobile and Verizon on an iPhone 7 & 8 with iOS 10.3.3 and iOS 11.1.1 but did find an iPhone 8 with Verizon that does not work. with iOS 11.1.1. The chipset is different.

IPhone 6 : Updated to 11.1.1 tonight and when I get to field test mode I have a different menu to yours : Sim info, Connected mode LTE Intra-frequency Measurements, Serving Cell Info, Reselection Candidates, Serving Cell Measurements, PDP Context Info, Neighbor Measurements.
I used to get what you are showing before the last few updates, but not now ????
The service cell measurements is the menu option you want to use. That should have rsrp0 and rsrp1 in it.
No rsrp0 or 1. It has Measured RSSI, Qrxlevmin, P_Max, Max UE Tx Power,Version, S Non Intra Search, Physical Cell ID, Average RSRP, Measurement Rules, Average RSRQ, Serving Layer Priority, Srxlev, Measured RSRP, Measurement Rules Updated, Num of Consecutive DRX Cycles, Measure RSRQ, E-ARFCN, S Intra Search.None of those menu items have details beside them and when touched on show nothing at all !! ??? I'm perplexed ! Other info via google suggests that the db reading has been killed off by Apple ????

I saw the same thing on one of my phones and had to reset it to factory defaults. That solved the problem.

Try a reboot of the phone first. It may take a couple minutes to update as well.

Why when I click on serving cell measure all I get is Waiting for update? This is my iPhone 7 plus. Why is it waiting for update?I'm sick of this phone constantly dropping my calls, my texts not going through or comin in late. It only happens when I'm at home. Nowhere else is this happening. I've taken it to ATT store 5 times..they gave me 2 new phones. They tried resetting signal from their side, which only worked for like 10 min then back to the same thing. Thank God I'm out of contract next month as I may be going back to Android SSGalaxy as I had them before.. Idk what else to do...
Some have noticed that it works right after a restart of the phone but once you check the servicing cell measure it shows waiting for update from that point forward. See if it works after a restart. This video gives some more information as well: ruclips.net/video/8TO9K5Y1XfI/видео.html
