It is quite amazing how quickly a horizontal surface attracts things. I used your idea of mounting my anvil with the 2 pieces of steel and bolts. I used a piece of 1"x 1/4" angle iron set in somewhat of a "V". The "V" shape gives me a convenient place to set small tools. Like a punch, chisel, or a drift so i can grab them quickly.
Love the well thought out design John! was asked this question awhile back wonder if it was the same person? Might make a video myself about my anvil stand..could be neat to see a bunch of different variations of the concept :-)
@@bob3274 you know the funny thing is, I actually found both Roy and John via their videos to where they was trying to help Chandler when he had to move. I hope to someday get to meet all three. And it would be an honor to be a striker for any of them. Daniel Moss included.
I have a roll around cart. It’s always cluttered and in the way. I feel the swing table is genius. Just enough room for the tools it’s meant for. Thank you for this video.
Thanks for sharing your layout. I've got a three-legged anvil stand I got from Steve Fontanini when I purchased my anvil from him and have been thinking how to modify it to hold some tools. You've given me several ideas. Thanks!
Perfect timing John. I'm in the process of making my Anvil stand and this video has given me several ideas. Thank you for all the information that you have shared and will share in the future.
I use the anvil stump for storage. Sure saves some steps to the wall during the day. I made a small stand I set by the anvil for my brushes, punches and chisels. Easy to pick up and move.
I like some of the ideas. Thanks. I am going to replace my old stump with a tripod welded anvil. My stand needs to move. I may incorporate some you these ideas. I have an A frame rolling tool rack that I need to feature. And replace the casters. The Harbor Freight ones I originally put on did not hold up.
I do like how organized your shop is John. Another great video. I’m making some changes to my shop when we return in April. I aslo picked up an anvil and plan to add a forge to my shop.
You said that your tool tray is on a swivel into a pile socket for easy removal in case you are lucky enough to have a striker or student👍.... do you have a similar pipe socket elsewhere so that you don't have to unload the tray when your striker isn't needed anymore or class is over? .... just move the tray to the "other" pipe socket no fuss, no miss! ❤🌅🌵
Im always misplacing punches, what a great idea ill be making a punch tool holder, i have a wall mounted rack for my tongs and hammers, might be nice to have at least one extra hammer close at hand though
Hi John. Speaking of tools..........I don't remember seeing any wood carving tools that you have done. I do some carving also and theere might be some wood workers that would like to see how to make some simple ones for themselves. Thanks
John, have you come across a blacksmithing channel on RUclips called "That Works"? It is Matt Stagmer and Ilya Alekseyev from "Boston Sword and Knife". Anyway, Ilya just did a wonderful video on greeting and quenching of unknown steel to determine the quenching medium and the brightness and grain structure in different quenching mediums. Just thought you would like to know. Stephen
Another great video. I finally watched the wheat twist video and the part where you were drawing out the point that kept seperating caught my curiosity. It made me remember the bloom you made a while back with the visitor that built the temporary iron furnace. Did you do something with the small piece of iron or has it become a keepsake?
The scale just gets tossed, or more like ground into the dirt floor as I walk on it. The clinker gets tossed out on the dirt road in hopes in might some day make it less muddy.
To plagiarize is actually a compliment, now I’ll
Embellish and adjust. Thanks for the ideas. Getting things going here at the Iron Butterfly Forge
I love that swinging table
👍👍👍👍 yeah , I definitely need something, generally toss on floor which is a pain
Thanks for showing how you set up your anvil!
I love that swing out tray, do you have a build video on it? I’m going to have to make one. I’ve learned so much off your channel, thanks
Nice, and organized. 👍 Very good setup you have there.
That is probably one of the best tool holder for around the anvil that i have seen. Very serviceable! Thanks for sharing!
Great ideas John. I plan on making one of those carts.
Great video and a great storage system for your tools.
we call that swinging tray a catch-all lol
Cool ideas! Thanks and God Bless you!

I would love to see your version of anvil stand too Roy. You two and Chandler are my favorite smiths to watch and learn from.

Thanks Carroll, my name is Bob by the way. I’ll have to go digging for those videos. I love watching and learning from these guys.@@20mcarroll02

The swing out tray is a great idea! Thanks for the video
Thanx John for giving us a tour of your anvil and sparking some ideas for my own tool disaster.....
Excellent ideas. I like the swing shelf.

Blessed days sirSir, Crawford out
I have used you layout ideas at the anvil and sure like the way it flows. Thanks Wayne.
Thanks For The Anvil Tour John, Keep Up The Good Work !!...

Efficient setup, John. 🐾🔥⚒

Handy to have, I have one in a wood box on a stump next to my anvil.
Thanks for sharing this John. Have been trying to figure out a design that works in my small shop. Swing table is a genius idea 👍🏼
I've been looking for a video like this for a while, thank you
Nice thanks for the ideas
Great ideas on my way to our local steel dealer to make some storage and A load of metal
I made one of those swing out shelves after seeing yours in a previous video. Very handy.

Very well organized :-) been doing some back viewing, making tongs with no thongs very cool :-)
Im always misplacing punches, what a great idea ill be making a punch tool holder, i have a wall mounted rack for my tongs and hammers, might be nice to have at least one extra hammer close at hand though
Thanks for the tips! Every little bit helps! Keep on ⚒️ ing my friend!!
Good stuff thanks

Great ideas! Thank you
Make something to make something more expedient, probably with stuff that's just lying around. The perk of a maker using tool number 1. 👍

It is still on the need to do list
can i used some of your ideas for myself?
Thank John for your video what size is your tool stored shelr
Its about 12 x 16. But I will try to remember to measure it to double check.
okay thanks
keep things neat , I am so untidy
What do you do with all of your scale? Do you use it or just toss it? How about clinker?
The scale just gets tossed, or more like ground into the dirt floor as I walk on it. The clinker gets tossed out on the dirt road in hopes in might some day make it less muddy.
How deep is your laminated stump?
The adapter plate that gives you the ability to use a 1" hardy; is it a commercial product or did you fabricate it? Thanks, another informative video.
It is just fabricated
Thanks, I'll add that one to my list.
I just made some U shaped hooks and slammed them in to the woodbkock that holds my anvil
Прекрасная мастерская , вот только наковальня должна быть немного выше согласно вашего роста
i used a 2 inch wood block drilled with holes then i screwed it to my wood frame of my anvil
You have one "dislike." What's to dislike?
