      @@spikedmonk91 For me, it was plugging them into an Emotiva a-100 headphone amp that really brought out their bass, but I find them to have pretty deep bass even with a phone.

      What's your verdict on the change in sound? It sounds like I would not like the sound with the BW pads. Still, love these Retros and have gotten four of my friends/family to get a pair for themselves and they all love them.

    • @ZadiusTech
      @ZadiusTech  5 лет назад +1

      I didn't like how the Brainwavz XL pleather pads changed the sound. But one thing is for sure now that I've been wearing the regular pads the headphones come with I need to change them out as they are so uncomfortable after wearing them for long periods of time. I might try the hybrid or genuine leather Brainwavz XL pads to see how I like them.

    I have a question about the Retro’s. I have some pads which are the same size and dimensions as the Brainwave XL pads, but they don’t have the really large skirt on the back that the XL’s have. Can they still be put on? The skirt, btw, if you didn’t know, if the leather on the pad of a pad which you’re supposed to put on the headphone.

    • @ZadiusTech
      @ZadiusTech  5 лет назад

      yeah, I don't think you can put on those pads without that skirt on the back.

    Hi, question, my monoprice retros, the non detachable cable is loose at the connection into the cup (meaning you can wiggle it) and when the headphone are on my head and the wire moves you get a plastic sound. I saw another reviewer mention this same issue and wonder if your pair has the same issue? Otherwise I may need to return them.

    • @ZadiusTech
      @ZadiusTech  6 лет назад +3

      Hi, mine does the exact same thing. I think its a design flaw, but it does not affect the sound quality at all. No need to return them, unless this bothers you a lot.

    What can I tell, I just loved this video. I will go to your library to see what other videos I have missed. I have some of the famous budget headphones like the Retros, the other famous Monoprice I think they were the 8323,Takstar 82, Philips SHP9500 and Superlux 681( my least favorites). I would love to see a review of the new Open back Dynamic driver that Monoprice will get soon. I'm ready to step up my game. I'm between those and the M1060.

      @ZadiusTech  6 лет назад +1

      ZadiusTech Hi again I have a question.Does the M1060 still worth it after the Retros?, it is a night and day difference. Thank you for the info in advance. The new Monoprice are called the M650 hope you can review them ha. Great stuff in your channel.

    • @ZadiusTech
      @ZadiusTech  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, the M1060's would be a big improvement over the Retros. You can think of the Retros as entry level, the M1060's are more like mid-tier. I actually tried the Monoprice M600's, which are the "smaller cousin" of the Monoprice M650's and unfortunately I was disappointed with them. You can find more info on the Monoprice M600's in my CanJam video here: ruclips.net/video/0pxTVad-Tp0/видео.html

    Finally getting around to doing a shootout on all the headphones I've accumulated this past two years, most of them from Massdrop. Sennheiser HD6xx's, Hifiman HE4xx's, AKG K7xx's, Retros, Spadgers, and my all-time favorites, the Creative Labs Aurvana Live's. The CAL's are the closest of the bunch to the sound of my computer sound system, which is waaay too much for a desktop, but it's all the room I have to work with. Fortunately, I have a very large, L-shaped desk, and the ADS L810's fit on here, though they are massive. I have lots of other bookshelf speakers, but I've spoiled myself with these L810's and so I can't see downgrading from them. Heh.
    Anyway, I'll check out some of your newer stuff.

    These two plus the Superlux 668B and Samson SR850 Reference all appear eerily similar to one another. Whatever sonic differences exist between them are negligible and your buying decision should be based purely on price.

    You compare bass as rumbly vs punchy and I feel those are confusing terms. Rumble is more associated with sub-bass and punch is usually associated with mid-bass. Now, both sub and mid-bass can have varying degrees of tightness, attack, decay, etc. So maybe in future reviews you could expand on what you mean by rumble vs punch? It sounds like you aren't much of a bass head so prefer the bass to have more mid-bass for rock / metal / acoustic instruments whereas electronic music usually benefits from more sub-bass and less mid-bass to prevent that muddy, bloated sound. Great review, just stopped by to watch cause I ordered the retros recently with the dark red XL pads. I also have some TR-x00s on their way from Massdrop. Oh man, can't wait.

    • @ZadiusTech
      @ZadiusTech  6 лет назад +1

      I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback on my video. I definitely need to improve my audio vocabulary when I try to articulate the sounds I am hearing while listening to headphones. Perhaps I will use what you have suggested sub-bass instead of "rumble" and mid-bass instead of "punch". Please do come back and let us know how you like the TR-x00's. I also have lots of other reviews on different headphones so I hope you check them out as well. thanks.

    • @drewfromoz2758

      @
      Matt Douglas, how did you find the retros compared to your TR-x00s? I have the original TH-x00s with the Lvl 1 Mark Lawton driver damping mod and ZMF Eikon sheepskin pads with an inserted homemade half-moon shaped plastic attenuation ring behind the ear section and I'm thinking about grabbing the retros for a knock-about portable pair of bass cans? How did you find that the bass compares with and without your XL pads on the retro compared to the Fostex? Cheers.

  • @AdrianIII

    Wish your sound comparisons of the 2 headphones were all in one place in the video. Even with a lot of skipping around, I couldn't easily determine the basic sound differences between them. I guess it's become reviewer tradition to leave the SQ discussion for last, but I wish it were first thing in the video.
