These special flanges and axles only come on automatic 540i's with the "S204A" option.
The BMW part number for the flange is 33131428285. Also found in some e38's (Options required unknown)
The BMW part number for the axles are 33207508137.
This information can be useful for beefing up a 6cyl car. Also useful for putting M5 diff in a car without having to buy M5 axles.
Any questions? Post them in the comments. It took a lot of internet snooping to figure this all out Авто/Мото
That thang sounds goooOOODD. I forgot I came here because I was towed home today 😂
Learnt a lot from this video, thank you
Awesome video man. 🔥
I really appreciate this video, glad I stumbled into this video a couple days ago. I went ahead and pulled a Sport Auto 540i rear end from the junkyard. Monkey see monkey do, just need to order the Wavetrac. The Auto 540 car I pulled the parts from had Dinan Sway bars, total cost for Diff/ Axles/ 1/2 DS/ Dinan Sways I paid $250.
Sounds like you got a great deal!!
This was a very needed Spank upgrade ❤🔥
Frist, thank you for this video! I managed to get a 2.81 ratio diff, and since pelican and another bmw dealership cancelled orders for lack of availability on the output flanges we wound up getting from an e38 740i (which according to multiple bmw parts look up sites appears to be the same part). (hopefully someone else can also confirm).

@ #SpankRanchGarage. Great video. It's very informative. The topic is rarely talked about. I have a few questions for you if you'd care to hear. It's regarding the rear differential/rear axles and the output flanges/stub shafts on my E53 X5 N62. My X5 shares alot of parts with the E39 and also the E60. A few other models as well. BMW in general uses parts from many different models to make a single vehicle. Ingenuitive. But a pain in the ass sometimes when trying to locate the correct part. I could use a little help and some insight from someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
Thanks for the comment! It is tricky learning what fits what. I use RealOEM.com/ Junkyards, RockAuto, Forums, etc to collect data for this kind of stuff

I daily A boosted 98 540i/6 with a welded diff. Never snapped and axle but my previous 530i/a makes me keep a spare in the trunk
Badass any vids of it brotha got a 98 540/6 myself
Did your auto 530i have a welded diff?
U missed the pre 96 e38 diff. 3.15 ratio and was a x-over yr so it got the 210 ring and pinion and will take a 210mm lsd(e23,e32,e39m5, e46m3). Gotta use the 540 rear cover, axels and driveline. HAS to be pre 96 build date so make sure to vin check build date.
That is news to me. Badass information thanks for adding it!
The BMW part number for the flange is 33131428285.
The BMW part number for the axles are 33131428285.
Typo?
Awesome catch! The axles are 33207508137. I fixed the description
So did you get a completely custom driveshaft or was the driveshaft shop able to move the splines?
I made my own by combining a 6cyl shaft and a v8 shaft. I made a video on it. It’s not for everyone but it had been working great for me with no problems
How much power are you putting down? because as far as i know those 188 driveshafts can handle quite some power atleast in e34 chassis
Only 400whp on pump gas. I haven't turned it up much on E85 yet. I think the combination of the welded diff, and the weight of the wagon had me breaking shafts so often
What's up with thoes subframe bushings? I don't recognize them. My wagon I found a decent deal on a complete m5 rear end. M5 axels weigh SOOOO MUCH. Now I have a few e39 5 series subframes... only 3" wider than my e36.... 1.5" per side. Hmmmm
I bought them from Europe a few years back. I remember they were hard to find but they have been awesome
Cool video BUT 540 axels and/or flanges are NOT the same bolt pattern as m5 axels. M5 ones are way bigger.
Thanks. But I disagree, the axles that I speak of in this video are M5 flange pattern. Most 540I axles are NOT, but the ones in this video are. They are not super common but they do exist.
I have a 2000 twin turbo 528i with a welded diff and I broke an axle should I just get a 540 diff and axles??
I recommend it. I broke too many axles with the 528 stuff it got really annoying.
Hey nice car
What color code
Its painted aftermarket but I tried to get it close to BMW Estoril blue
Wifey will trade you straight up for her 2018 wagon. But it's a Subaloser. Auto...
No can do. Automatics don't last long for me
@@spankranchgarage 6spd swap content.
What model lift is that?
It’s a bendpak GP-7
SO WHATS THE SOLUTION TO THE DRIVESHAFT?
I made another video about it. I chopped and spliced the v8 rear section to the 6 cylinder driveshaft.
Thanks for the reply. Call me stupid dude I can’t find that video on your page. can you link me to the video please?
