Alex, thank you for reigniting my love, no, my passion for photography. In the last four years I helped my wife take care of her mother and father. They have both since passed away, her mother in 2019, and her father at the end of 2023.
While looking after them, I simply didn’t have enough time to indulge in my photographic hobby, and after my father-in-law died, I simply could not pick up my camera again.
However, listening to you describing the beauty of photography and art in general, I slowly found my passion for this wonderful art form rekindle. Now I have started not only photography, but portrait photography, something I previously had no interest in doing. Thank you, my friend, for reviving my muse.

Good on you for being supportive during that time. It's incredibly hard dealing with grief and as you allude, photography can be a great healer. In fact, I think the best work comes from us when we are low, especially with the connection that is needed for portraiture. I hope things are on the up for you now.

You say "totally camera club" except.....the motivation, appreciation, inspiration of that image is exactly, as I perceive, what this channel is all about. An image, preserving a moment in time, that carries with it a world, understood by all viewers in sundry nuanced ways, that is universally grasped as something beyond that moment. Your grandpa loved you, and he wanted to personally preserve a record of that love. I myself, have take that very same picture of a half a dozen little boys and a couple of little girls.

I do like listening to Alex. His non-gear channel is right up my alley. The main things in photography are firstly, the fun of taking the picture, and, secondly, being happy with the picture you have taken.
Of course gear matters. But only now and again, usually under some special circumstances. Obviously, if you want to hang up a picture of the insides of your intestines, you will need some rather special gear to get it. Bon appetit! 🙂

I picked up a Fuji camera in 2001. Put it down later in 2001. Then as professional painter I worked in a photo studio for 17 years.. bumping shoulders with highly accomplished photographers. Wasn't until 4 months ago I got another camera and deep dove into all things camera related. Settings. Modes. Light. Triangle. I don't watch any of those anymore. It's this^^.. his philosophy, that has improved my outlook, my results.. how to stay inspired.. how to push myself.. by way of mentoring all of us with life experience. Add to that he sprinkles the greats' iconic images to spur a new desire for an entirely new/different perspective that seeps its way into our own version of the world we see. Loved the picture taken from the balcony of the Newsrum in Washington DC. The Canadian embassy, the Capitol, and view of Pennsylvania Ave…my son and I were there in December 2019. Interesting we have visited the same spot.

Congratulations! '74 was a fine vintage! Thanks so much for the channel. I discovered it while laid up with the latest Covid and it reawakened my love of photography and inspired me to get back out and shoot. I had a hard time enjoying photography after a big head injury and the cameras were gathering dust. But I've learnt so much from your content (more than quite a few photography courses) and it has completely inspired me to take less 'literal' photos. This has helped me so much. Wowsers sir. I didn't realise you started the channel as recently as 2020. From zero to 200K in 4 years give or take is astonishing. Biggest congrats to you on your achievement. I enjoy "tuning in" (to use a phrase from our era) and listening to your discussions. I think that's part of the channels charm and ergo its success. I must confess to admitting you have largely inspired me too, and in recent weeks, I've made a more measured effort on my own channel too, and I currently have a few stacked and scheduled for daily releases. Alex, I truly appreciate your presentations. As I’m watching, I feel like we’re sitting in your house enjoying a cup of coffee together, discussing photography. Not the technical aspects such as settings, lighting, post processing, etc. but the creative, intuitive side. Creativity if you will. In the final analysis I find it both enjoyable and motivating.
